Dan’s note: I’ve traveled with HotLogics across several continents without easy access to kosher food, and it’s been incredible. I usually pack food in a Polar Bear cooler which kept everything frozen for days. While I used to travel with a toaster oven, I relied on HotLogic ovens for these trips, which are amazing because they take up very little space.

The HotLogic oven folds down next to nothing, making it an ideal travel mate. However while a toaster oven will warm up cold food in 20 minutes or frozen food in an hour, the HotLogic will take an hour to warm up cold food or a couple hours to warm up frozen food. That means you’ll have to plan your meals ahead of time and defrost meals in advance.
Want to speed up the process? If you buy 2 HotLogics you can take the warming trays and combine them into one insulated bag to have the food warmed from both the bottom and the top to accelerate the warming process.
You can also put plastic or foil in the HotLogic without issue and you can put in food in the morning and leave it in there until evening and it will be fine. That’s because the HotLogic only gets up to 165 degrees, so it won’t melt plastic or overcook your food, but it will get your food hot with enough time.
As you only need 45 watts to power the mini or 100 watts to power the Casserole oven, you can use a basic voltage converter to use them overseas, though I have used it overseas without a converter as well without issue. I probably wouldn’t do that and leave it unsupervised though without a converter.
On the downside, you won’t be making crunchy nachos in a HotLogic like you can in a toaster oven. And you’ll need multiple HotLogic ovens to heat up meals for a whole family.
Using a HotLogic on a plane is not something that airlines are likely to encourage (though I have seen flight attendants using them as well for their own meals), but it was easier than gambling on whether I’d be able to persuade the flight attendant to warm up my own meal in the plane’s oven. Both the mini and max worked on a plane and it’s also a real game changer!

Just to echo the love on this, i used the xl over a yom tov at the hospital and it was amazing, but one key benefit is its perfect for reheating a smoked brisket (hard to do usually). it stays at like 165 tops so if u cover and add a lil apple juice to the brisket and close the “oven” it slowly brings it to perfect temp without drying it out as much as some other methods (obv sous vide may be a better way depending on your options).

It is safe to leave plugged in.
Hatmana shouldn’t be an issue unless it tightly fills up the whole space on all the sides and top, but ask your LOR.

It’s pretty unlikely for that to happen on all 4 sides, but you can also just not zipper it closed.

I left one side of the zipper open in the hospital for Shabbos and the food was hot the whole Shabbos (double size). The staff thinks its a cooler bag but they’re probably curious why the smelled like cholent

We used the max when traveling in Iceland and it was great. We used it in the car, in a cabin and in the airport. It will need 30min to an hr to warm up your food and the bottom obviously gets warm/hot first. So just plan accordingly.
I had it plugged in for a whole Shabbos in the Hospital, worked out beautifully.
In order to avoid hatmana, make sure to leave it a bit opened.
I also use it for traveling, it is great!

wow this is a game changer….I was thinking of going on a motobike tour in northern vietnam and wondering how and what I could eat. It like like it does the same job as a sous-vide, but with just one temp setting and no water needed.

I’ve been experimenting with my 2 minis for a while. I make overnight oatmeal every night and that turns out great. I add an extra half cup of almond milk. Today I experimented with a casserole. I baked half of it in an oven and half in the mini. Sorry to say the oven was much better but I suppose if I was traveling I’d think the casserole was amazing. A few weeks ago I took a frozen stuffed chicken breast out of the freezer and cut up some zucchini and in a few hours I had a great dinner. I’ve left mine running for 25 hours as a (fake) Shabbat experiment and it worked fine. I’m still working on getting the unzipped food heating timed right. I haven’t used it on a real Shabbat yet.
My understanding is that if it’s not a snug fit, you should be able to zipper it. If it is a snug fit, you would have to leave it unzippered.

And yes, it’s no oven. But it also folds flat!

Drove up from Silver Spring to Buffalo last Thursday. Took my dinner out of the cooler about two hours away, plugged my mini into an inverter (Amazon sells many inverters, by the way), and I had a nice hot dinner by the time I got to my hotel. Great product!
