Delta announced today that they will launch free WiFi on most domestic flights, starting on 2/1/23. A Skypesos account will be required.
The airline says they have invested more than 1 billion dollars into improving the WiFi experience, including upgrading from slower GoGo to much faster ViaSat WiFi on most narrowbody planes. That will allow the airline to offer free WiFi to everyone.
Free WiFi will be available on those ViaSat planes, but it will take the airline until the end of this year until nearly all non-regional narrowbody planes have free WiFi.
Free WiFi will come to international widebody planes and regional planes and 717s by the end of next year.
Delta will also roll out Delta Sync premium entertainment over WiFi, including Paramount+, NYTimes puzzles, and in-seat ordering later this year.
Of course JetBlue has offered free WiFi for years. Now the ball is in American’s and United’s court.

It’s about time! Very welcome news.
$1 billion??
How much money will they be losing by not charging for WiFi?
Does Delta have free wifi between Israel and USA ?
Read the post please 🙂
Maybe American will stop charging $19 (!) for wifi now. United is already down to $8
AA WiFi pricing is truly absurd.
Spent $49 on a monthly WiFi pass last month when I flew CLE-DFW-OGG-DFW-CLE and saved a bundle over the $20-$40 per leg cost for the WiFi.
Does anyone know if they have set a particular date to begin Wifi service, or is it still undisclosed?
I’m flying on the 7th 🙂
Finally!!
