Capital One allows you to transfer points to anyone with a Capital One credit card!
A nice thing about Capital One is that you earn rewards and signup bonus points as soon as spending posts to your account without having to wait for your statement to close.
Another nice benefit is that transfers over 1,000 miles can be made in 100 mile increments instead of 1,000 mile increments from most bank programs, so you don’t need to orphan miles in an airline program when making a redemption.
What can you do with the 120K or 400K points you’ll have after opening one of these cards and meeting the spending threshold?
There are endless possibilities, but here are 30 in no particular order. Note that most of these redemptions require saver award availability, which comes and goes all the time, so it may require vigilance to hunt it down!
You can redeem points for paid travel
While the Spark Cash offers straight cash back that can be converted into miles, with Venture miles you can’t convert into cash back. However, you can redeem miles against any paid travel that you put on the card at a value of 1 cent per point, or an effective 2% back on all purchases.
You can even redeem miles to refund part of a purchase or to refund a purchase that was already refunded, like refunded travel booked with the $300 annual travel credit or $200 vacation credit on the Venture X card!
You can transfer to Avianca Lifemiles for 22 or 73 one-way domestic short-haul flights on United
Avianca has excellent domestic pricing for awards on United:
- 6.5K miles in coach and 15K-16K miles in business for flights under 500 miles in distance.
- 7.5K miles in coach and 15K-16K miles in business for flights 500-799 miles in distance.
- 10K miles in coach and 15K-25K miles in business for flights 800-1,199 miles in distance.
- 12.5K+ miles in coach and 15K+ miles in business for flights 1,200+ miles in distance.
Plus there are often transfer bonuses to Avianca. Currently, you can get a 20% bonus for transfers from Capital One to Avianca. That makes a one-way cost just 5,416 Capital One miles. That’s 22 one-ways via the Venture X’s 120K miles or 73 one-ways via the Spark’s 400K miles!
I’m always booking short-haul flights from Cleveland to places like NYC or Chicago and it’s great to be able to use 6,500 Lifemiles for a last minute one-way flight that would otherwise cost 15,000 United miles or $400 cash. A flight like Newark to Boston, Columbus, Detroit, or Pittsburgh would also cost just 6.5K Lifemiles. Or LaGuardia/Newark to Chicago would be 7.5K Lifemiles.
With last minute flights like that costing up to $400 one-way, you can get a value of 7.4 cents per point, which would make your 120K miles worth $8,888 or your 400K miles worth $29,600!
Transfer miles to Air Canada for 20 or 66 domestic award flights on United
Air Canada’s new mileage program has a ton of value.
For example, short-haul flights on partner airlines like United cost just 6,000 miles! You can read more about the program here.
That’s 20 one-ways via the Venture X’s 120K miles or 66 one-ways via the Spark’s 400K miles!
You can transfer to Turkish for 16 or 53 one-way domestic flights, including to Alaska or Hawaii, on United
Turkish Airlines has a ridiculously generous Star Alliance award chart to travel on airlines like United for fewer miles than United charges. And they don’t charge any fuel surcharges for United flights.

You can open a Turkish Airlines mileage account online (Hint: Your password must be exactly 6 numbers or else it will give an error).
And you can book Star Alliance awards with Turkish miles here (Login and then click this link again). You can’t search for partner awards from their home page. Search for one-way at a time for best results.

Thanks to Israel reopening, availability on United has dried up, but I’d expect that to open back up again with time.

Transfer miles to Etihad for travel to Morocco on Royal Air Maroc
Fly nonstop in a Dreamliner from JFK, Boston, Miami, Montreal, or Washington DC to Casablanca for just 22K miles in coach (plus $120 fuel surcharges) or 44K miles in lie-flat business class (plus $170 fuel surcharges) each way.

Air Canada’s new mileage program has many good values to be had.
For example, business class to Europe is 60,000 miles with no fuel surcharges.
That’s 2 one-ways via the Venture X’s 120K miles or 8 one-ways via the Spark’s 400K miles.
And while United charges 121K miles for partner first class:

American flies 777s with lie flat first class seats between NYC and Miami.
Sure, you can redeem 9K Avios in coach, but for 16.5K Avios, you can fly in lie-flat first class seats with 2 free checked bags while sipping free Woodford Reserve and premium snacks. That’s 7 one-ways via the Venture X’s 120K miles or 24 one-ways via the Spark’s 400K miles!
These flights sell for about $400 one-way, giving you a value of more than 2.4 cents per point, which would make your 120K miles worth $2,880 or your 400K miles worth $9,600!
You can transfer points to Virgin Atlantic for bargains on Delta to Europe
You can fly on Delta to Europe (excluding the UK) for just 30K miles in coach or 50K miles in business class each way.
Infant lap child awards on international flights are a bargain. While Delta charges 10% of the paid fare, which can be astronomical on one-way flights, Virgin charges just 1,000 miles in coach or 5,000 miles in business class each way.
You can transfer points to Virgin Atlantic for bargains on short-haul Delta flights
For the rest of the world besides Europe, Virgin has a distance based award chart for travel on Delta:
You can check what a ticket will cost by checking the distance between city pairs on GCmap.com.
For example a flight from Cleveland to NYC will be 7.5K Virgin miles in main cabin or 17.5K in first class with this is a zone 1 award as the flight distance between Cleveland and NYC is under 500 miles.
Vs 14K in main cabin with Delta miles or 22.5K in first class with Delta miles:
Detroit to NYC is also a zone 1 award.
JFK to Tel Aviv costs 35K miles each way in coach as a zone 8 award. That’s under 27K AMEX points!
You can transfer points to Virgin Atlantic for 2 or 7 ANA First Class Suites To Japan
Redeeming Virgin Atlantic miles for ANA business class or first class suites is one of the biggest bargains in travel.
I reviewed the old suite here towards the end of the 4th part of my Island Hopper adventure.
You only need 55K Virgin Atlantic miles to fly one-way between the US west coast and Japan or 60K miles to fly one-way between the US east coast and Japan in first class.
That’s 2 one-ways via the Venture X’s 120K miles or 7 one-ways via the Spark’s 400K miles! These flights sell for about $15,000 one-way, giving you a value of more than 3.6 cents per point, which would make your 120K miles worth $4,320 or your 400K miles worth $14,400!

Virgin has excellent award availability between North America and Israel, though fuel surcharges are hefty.
A one-way ticket from Tel Aviv to NYC is 19K miles+$224 in coach, 33.5K miles+$198 in premium economy, or 75.5K miles+$245 in business class.
A one-way ticket from NYC to Tel Aviv you’ll pay 19K miles+$243 in coach, 33.5K miles+$368 in premium economy, or 75.5K miles+$668 in business class.
A round-trip coach ticket from Tel Aviv to JFK on Virgin Atlantic is 38K miles plus $407. Premium Economy is 67K miles+$355. Business class is 151K miles plus $449.
You can transfer to Singapore for a suite between JFK and Frankfurt
You can fly in Singapore suites class from JFK to Frankfurt for 86K miles one-way. This is truly an aspirational award and Singapore service is second to none. If you and a spouse open a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card you would have more than enough miles to get a couples suite!
You’ll even have access to the Virgin Clubhouse in JFK with kosher meals as well.

Fly In Emirates First Class Shower Suites
Emirates only released first class award space with their own miles. You can transfer Capital One points to Emirates to book a flight you’ll never forget.
Emirates has even opened their own kosher kitchen in Dubai to provide high quality fresh kosher meals!
Emirates A380 first class is affectionately known as “Shower Class.” Sure, you get your own walled-in suite and access to the onboard bar…
But it’s the onboard shower that sets it apart. My review of the experience can be found here.
A one-way first class award from NYC to Milan/Athens is 85K miles or from JFK to Dubai is 136,250 miles.
You can transfer miles to Cathay Pacific to save on fuel surcharges on BA or American to London
Cathay Pacific offers lower fuel surcharges to book award travel to London than other OneWorld carriers.
Cathay Pacific members also get expanded availability to travel on their industry leading first class, with the most comfortable mattress and seat in the air (by a long shot!)
You can transfer miles to Singapore for a business class seat on the longest flight in the world
Singapore Airlines flies the longest commercial flight in the world from Newark to Singapore. The 9,534 mile flight takes a whopping 18.5 hours to fly!
For 99K miles you can book a seat in business class, which is their highest cabin on this route.
In 2013 I redeemed 60K United miles to fly business class from Cleveland-Newark-Singapore-Maldives. Back then the flight was operated by an A340-500 with 100 business class seats. There were no other classes of service on the flight back then. It was an excellent way to get to the Maldives.

The problem with flights to Europe in premium cabins is that there’s not enough time to enjoy a meal and still get a good night’s sleep.
On this flight there was plenty of time for me to eat, drink some wine and scotch, surf the web, watch Argo, get a full night’s sleep, eat again, watch Lincoln, and then land in Singapore.
In fact Singapore served 3 separate kosher meals on the flight. The plane was split into 3 sections and I was one of the only passengers in my section, giving the flight an almost private jet feel.

I emailed Singapore inquiring if they can get kosher wine on the flight and they fulfilled the request and got kosher wine for me!
I’ve flown Singapore in economy, business, and suites class and the service has always been impeccable. The flight attendants seem to know exactly when to bring you another glass of seltzer and when to leave you alone. It’s my favorite airline to fly in any class of service.
I had ordered Sesame Chicken from New Kosher Special with free delivery to Newark Airport and the flight attendants were happy to store it for me in a fridge and warm it up double-wrapped (BYOK FTW!).
The sign of a great flight is when you’re sad to have it end. And even after a 19 hour flight, I was sad to have to deplane. Though I sure enjoyed the showers in the Singapore lounge.
You can transfer miles to British Airways for 9 or 30 one-way nonstop flights from the West Coast to any Hawaiian Island
You can fly from the west coast nonstop to Hawaii on AA or Alaska for just 13K Avios each way.
Transfer points to Singapore to fly round-trip on United between the US49 and Hawaii
United charges 45K miles to get to the paradise also known as Hawaii in coach and 80K-100K in business. Transfer miles to Singapore and they’ll book those same flights for just 35K or 69K.
That’s more than the dirt cheap Turkish 7.5K in coach or 12.5K in business class, but Singapore has better availability than Turkish on United to Hawaii.

I have done the United route, but United award space to TLV was plentiful in the past, but has mostly dried up now thanks to lots of pent up demand, while Turkish still has plenty of availability.

Yes, these cards give 2% back on all spending. Then again if you use CSR and CFU you get 2.25%.
If I just got the spark cash plus card, will I still get approved for a venture X a week later?

Why does Capital One say it’s not valid?
they never offered this offer, shipt says that only annual fees above $400 code as infinite they recommend calling visa, visa says call issuing bank
the supervisors i spoke to claimed that not all infinite cards have all the benefits rather visa has different arrangements with different banks

You can downgrade to a free card.
But with 10K bonus points annually and $300 travel credit annually, the card pays for itself and has plenty of other benefits that make it worth keeping.

Got this card to be able to transfer miles to Turkish for hawaii flights. See award availability on United x class economy ogg-ord-ewr. But when looking on the provided link Turkish throws a segment thru Istanbul.
Ogg-ord-ist-ewr. Have called at least 5 times was told they can’t do anything about it. Emailed and opened feedback. No response. Is there a NYC phone number? Please advise. How do I get somebody to remige that ridiculous IST segment?

@Dan, What is hands down the best way to use these points for a trip to Israel in Business? We are a couple with one lap child. I have the Venture X so 100K+20k+50K in referrals so a total of 170k points!

Opened a Turkish miles and smile’s account. Trying to book a flight on Turkish to LAX from EWR using your link to book with miles. I have not yet transferred any miles into Turkish. It is not showing any available flights, coming up with an error message. Can you please help me.

I had the same problem, the issue was I copied everything including TK. When I entered just numbers, it all worked fine and transferred instantly.
