And recently big brands have been taking steps to prevent you from just buying multiple printers when they go on sale for less than the cartridges.
For example, they may only provide you with a sample cartridge that can only print a few pages.
Another trick they use is serializing the cartridge included in the box, so you must use it with the printer it came with, instead of just taking the cartridge from the next box and using it in a printer you already set up. This one is less devastating but very annoying.
