Capital One shocked the mileage world when they announced that their points would be transferable into real airline miles. But best of all, they remain focused on improving their program and adding new partners while other programs remain mostly stagnant.
And now they’re improving the transfer ratio to nearly all airlines to 1:1. As cards like Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card and Capital One Spark Miles for Business card offer 2 miles per dollar spent, that’s an effective 2 miles per dollar spent everywhere!
There are other ways to earn 2 miles per dollar elsewhere, but there are caveats.
- If you have a Citi Double Cash Card and Citi Premier® Card Card you can earn 2 miles per dollar everywhere and transfer them to airline programs, but you need 2 cards to accomplish that.
- If you have The Blue Business® Plus Credit Card from American Express you’ll 2 miles per dollar everywhere with no annual fee, but there’s a cap of $50,000 in annual spending.
A nice thing about Capital One is that you earn rewards as soon as spending posts to your account without having to wait for your statement to close.
Another nice benefit is that transfer can be made in 100 mile increments instead of 1,000 mile increments from most bank programs, so you don’t need to orphan miles in an airline program when making a redemption.
Here is the full lineup of Capital One’s transfer partners with their transfer ratios:
- Aeromexico (1:1, SkyTeam)
- Air Canada Aeroplan (1:1, Star Alliance)
- Air France/KLM Flying Blue (1:1, SkyTeam)
- Avianca LifeMiles (1:1, Star Alliance)
- British Airways Avios (1:1, OneWorld)
- Cathay Pacific Asia Miles (1:1, OneWorld)
- EVA (2:1.5, Star Alliance)
- Etihad (1:1, No alliance)
- Emirates (1:1, No alliance)
- Finnair (1:1, OneWorld)
- Qantas (1:1, OneWorld)
- Singapore (1:1, Star Alliance)
- TAP Air Portugal (1:1, Star Alliance)
- Turkish Airlines (1:1, Star Alliance)
- Accor Hotels (2:1)
- Choice Hotels (1:1)
- Wyndham Hotels (1:1)
Plus, transfers to Etihad this month will have a 50% bonus, for an effective 1:1.5 transfer ratio! That’s like earning 3 Etihad points per dollar spent! You can read more about the Etihad program and the bonus for transfers from Marriott here.
The 1:1 transfer partners are great news as you earn 2 miles per dollar spent. Avianca Lifemiles is a great option to have a 1:1 ratio for their cheap United flights. Qantas is a great 1:1 option as they can book El Al award tickets. Air Canada is also a strong Star Alliance program, now with 1:1 transfers.
Turkish Airlines is now 1:1 and is a fantastic transfer option as they can book dirt cheap Star Alliance and United tickets. Currently only Citi transfers to Turkish. Domestic awards on United, including to Hawaii, cost just 7.5K miles in coach or 12.5K miles in business class! Tickets to Israel cost just 32K miles in coach or 47K miles in business class!

Capital One airport lounges will also launch later this year with its first lounge in Dallas/DFW this summer and lounges in Denver and Washington/IAD to open next year. It’s unclear what lounge entry requirements will entail.
Lounges will feature local beers, craft cocktails, exercise rooms, nursing rooms, kids rooms, soundproof relaxation rooms, secure lockers, cycling rooms, prayer rooms, and shower suites!
Will you open a Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card Card or Capital One Spark Miles for Business card to take advantage of these offers?

16.6 k for AA F transcon am I doing it right ? (Via EY) miles are amazing!!
This puts cap 1 as the top tier spending card for every day people not looking to have a ton of cards yet maximizing earnings. All they need is a premium travel card…
Has Turkish gotten any better in the last few years. For a long while they never had any domestic point tickets available
I’ve booked several awards. Are you using the special Star Alliance award booking link?
what’s the link
See Turkish Airlines here:

thanks. Will try again
The one airline i need is not listed. How can i get Delta points with this card?
Book Delta travel with a Skyteam partner.
Hey Dan – do Cap One points transfer instantly or is there a delay?
Depends on the airline, see here:
https://www.dansdeals.com/points-travel/milespoints/mileage-expiration-guide-for-38-loyalty-programs-how-to-keep-your-points-from-expiring-and-how-to-bring-them-back-to-life-after-theyve-expired/
I read thru this article, I don’t see anywhere you wrote abt the transfer times? Instant or with a delay?
Instant transfers are in the chart.
Are there any worthwhile SUB on any Capital One cards currently?
Just what’s linked in the post.
Is there a way to Book American Airlines fights from capital one points?
Transfer to a OneWorld airline.
British Airways doesn’t have all the flights that I see on AA
is another OneWorld better?
I’m sure others have noticed and probably posted elsewhere, but I don’t see Israel listed on the Etihad Guest AA award chart: https://www.etihadguest.com/content/dam/eag/glc/etihadguest/programassets/pdf/American-Airlines-redemption-rev.pdf. Presume they would consider it Middle East, since it’s squeezed inside Egypt/Jordan/Syria/Lebanon, all of which are listed.
Glad to see Cap1 is listening to feedback from their surveys. They have come a long way.
Now a premium card for the win…
where do i see the 50 % transfer bonus. on capital 1 page doesnt mention anything ?
Capital One emailed me today about the bonus. I’ll ask for clarification.
Thanks. I wasn’t sure if the 50% was just Marriott or also Capital One.
From Capital One, “We are not listed on their site, but we are included in their promotion.”
Nice! Is it a one time thing or can there be multiple transfers before the end of the month? I was considering doing a test since I don’t see it anywhere elsewhere but article sights like this one.
Multiple will work. Test won’t work as the bonus points won’t post until after the promotion.
That stinks. Any chance that you can email me the email you received in case they don’t want to honor it? I’ve reached out to Capital One & Etihad and got nothing. I’m considering a 200k to 300k points transfer.
Did they say how long after the promotion before the 50% bonus points should post? Mine still hasn’t posted and the base points were in my account by October 29th.
What capital one cards can i transfer point from?
The ones mentioned in this post.
If you have other cards, you can transfer points to one of those.
Those are the only two cards that can transfer points to airlines?
Dan, when you posted about the 50%bonus earlier in the week, it says:Transfers from AMEX, Barclays, *Capital One,* and Citi to Etihad will not receive a bonus.
Capital One emailed me today about the bonus. I’ll ask for clarification.
Hello Dan. Any update from Cap1 regarding the 50% Etihad promotion?

been away from the mileage game for a while…i have 160,000 cap1 miles (all from venture) and growing…we’d like to travel within the next 12 months from Newark to Tel Aviv non-stop….please recommend the best options…thanks
I have Chase cards. Is Capital 1 better?
Both are good.
And generally there have been are no issues with Turkish airlines or a layover there?
No issues.
The 50% bonus from Capital One is not being honored. I transferred 200k in October and the 50% bonus still hasn’t posted and they are denying that it was applicable. Let me know if you’d like me to email you the response I’m getting from Etihad or screenshots of the transfer.
Try contacting Capital One?
I’ve been in contact with both. Was the source of the bonus Etihad or Capital One? If it had been from Capital One, wouldn’t it have shown up as a 50% promo transfer on the transfer page (it didn’t)?
I’ll reach out to my Capital One contact that told me the promo would apply and ask what you can do.
“Etihad was in charge of fulfilling this promotion. If there are any issues, the next step would be for the customer to call Capital One, and we can get a case opened on their behalf with Etihad to investigate and hopefully get this resolved. “
