As they have had for the past several months, it’s worth a reminder that JetBlue still has $298 one-way MINT class tickets on select transcontinental routes. In normal times those fares are $598-$998 or more each way.
But even better, if you have JetBlue Mosaic status and fly between 1/1/21-5/20/21 you can get unlimited free companion tickets on all paid flights!
That will work out great for people that were nominated for free Mosaic status, which is valid through 6/15/21.
If you book a $298 flight with a companion, you’ll pay just $156 per person each way after taxes in JetBlue MINT suites!

You can’t use bank points to book a companion fare, but if you don’t have Mosaic status you can use other points to snag a great deal.
Alternatively, you can book JetBlue flights with bank points (or airline fee credit) and cancel/convert those flights into Travel Bank funds. You could then book a companion fare with those funds!
Using Chase Points:
You can pay for the ticket with “hybrid points” such as AMEX or Chase points with a card that allows your points to be used at an increased value for airfare in addition to be able to transfer points into airline miles.
If you have a Chase Sapphire Reserve® card you can redeem points for 1.5 cents each towards travel. If you have a Chase Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card® Card or Ink Business Preferred® Credit Card you can redeem points for 1.25 cents each towards travel.
You can login to your account and redeem Chase points for travel here. The cost will be 19,873 points with a Sapphire Reserve. That rate include all taxes and you will still earn flight miles as well!
Using AMEX points:
- If you have an AMEX Business Platinum Card you can get a 35% rebate of points used.
You can login to your account and redeem AMEX points for travel here.
This is bookable for 29,810 points with AMEX. Plus you’ll get back a rebate of 7,453 points with the Business Platinum Card or 1,253 points with the Business Gold Card, dropping the total needed to as low as 19,375 points. That includes all taxes and you can still earn miles for flying!

How would you book the companion fare through Chase or Amex with points? How would they know if you’re Mosaic or not to discount the second ticket?
Right, that’s just an option for non-Mosaics.

So only way to use this with points would be to book a flight with points, cancel for Travel bank and use that to book. Still phone only?

You can try calling the Mosaic line and see if they’ll let you add a companion to a Chase booking, but I think it needs to be done at the same time.
Booked with Amex, called JetBlue to cancel and convert to TB, they are telling me there is a $50 take over fee.. Never heard of that before.
Should I call back after the 24 hours?
Update, I messaged them on Twitter, they cancelled it no problem, called them back to rebook with companion.

Dan, as I predicted Jetblues race to the bottom continues. Blue basic fares will no longer be entitled to a free carry on bag as of July 22. I also predicted that by the end of 2021, snacks and beverages will no longer be free. By late 2022, they will mirror Spirit and begin to charge for a ticket printed at the airport kiosk.

We’ll continue to waive change and cancel fees for all travelers on all fares, including Blue Basic, through 3/31/21.
Starting 4/1/21 all travelers, including Mosaics, will be able to change or cancel a Blue Basic fare for a fee (fare difference applies). With our current fare options, the fare is forfeited with any changes and cancellations even for Mosaic members, so the new policy allows you flexibility on these fares.
Mosaics will now be permitted to make free same-day switches on all fares (including Blue Basic). Currently, same-day switches are not permitted on Basic fares and the fare is forfeited.
(In addition to offering the most flexibility, our Blue, Blue Plus, Blue Extra and Mint Fares let you rack up TrueBlue points and Mosaic qualifying points faster.)
Getting a handle on carry-ons.
Starting 7/20/21, our new carry-on bag policy will guarantee overhead bin space to those traveling on a Blue, Blue Extra or Mint fare or who book an Even More® Space seat on domestic flights within the U.S.,—or you get a $25 Travel Bank credit1. That’s right—no more guessing if there will be room for your bag on board, no matter when you board.
While Blue Basic fares booked on or after 2/25/21 for travel 7/20/21 or later will not allow a carry-on bag and only allow a personal item that fits under the seat, rest assured that Mosaic members (and their eligible travel companions) will continue to get a carry-on bag that can be placed in the overhead bin with ALL fares, including Blue Basic.
Of course, as a Mosaic member, you’ll still enjoy 2 free checked bags and early boarding, and our new carry-on bag policy will bring more certainty and speed to your travel experience.
