Update: DEAD!
————————————————————————————————–
-Bookable on Orbitz (with regular mileage earning, free cancellations until 11pm ET the day after you book, and price assurance refunds) or direct from the airline.
-Earn over 5 points per dollar with Chase Freedom (up to $1,500 per quarter with registration), or 3 points per dollar with American Express® Premier Rewards Gold Card, or 3 points per dollar with The Business Gold Rewards Card® from American Express OPEN, or 2.14 points per dollar with Chase Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card® Card.
————————————————————————————————–
The deal is valid for round-trips only from Chicago to Tel Aviv via JFK and it will earn 12,835 Delta miles. It is not valid from Tel Aviv or on one-ways.
If you’re from NYC you can take a one-way flight to Chicago for just $68.80 on Delta. You can also use 7,500 BA Avios to fly on American.
For example you can book a Delta ticket on 01/13 from LGA to Chicago for $68.80 and then book a separate ticket for Chicago-Tel Aviv from 01/13-01/30 for $620.97 for a total of $689.77. Delta will check your luggage all the way through to Tel Aviv.
That’s a savings of over $472 per person compared to just flying nonstop from JFK.
Your flight to Israel would be via Chicago and JFK but the return would just be the nonstop to JFK as I explain below.
Thus a sample itinerary departing from NYC for just $689 would be:
Outbound flights:
01/13, Delta 5943, LGA-ORD, 12:15 PM-2:00 PM
65 minute connection in Chicago
01/13, Delta 3498, ORD-JFK, 3:05 PM-6:25 PM
2:45 connection in JFK
01/13, Delta 268, JFK-TLV, 9:10 PM-2:45 PM
Spend 16 nights in the holy land.
Return flight:
01/30, Delta 269, TLV-JFK, 12:40 AM-5:45 AM
You can throw away the final leg back to Chicago if you just want to get off in JFK, even if you have luggage, as all luggage must be reclaimed in JFK and brought through customs. At that point you can either recheck your bags to Chicago or just leave the airport.
Again, you do need to fly to Chicago to pick up the flight. If you miss the Chicago-JFK flight your entire itinerary will be canceled!
If you are from other cities like Cleveland, Detroit, Pittsburgh, or even Kansas City it’s just 9,000 BA Avios (which can be transferred from all 3 major transferable point currencies, Membership Rewards, Ultimate Rewards, and Starwood) to fly round-trip to Chicago.
The outbound flight must take place between 11/28 through 02/28.
You can stay in Israel for up to 30 nights.
There are tons of available dates, here are just some sample valid dates:
12/03-12/11
12/04-12/19 (Chanukah)
12/31-01/15
01/09-01/24
01/13-01/21
01/13-01/30
01/22-02/06
01/27-02/11
02/10-02/18
02/17-03/04 (Purim)
02/24-03/04
To help find other valid dates check the Orbitz box to search “3 days before and after” to help find other valid dates.
Or I highly recommend that you read about using ITA Software and use their awesome month-long calendar search to help find dates with cheap flights.

I never understood the logic of flying from NYC then back to NYC to go to your destination. Isn’t it cheaper if they let you just come to JFK? I flew from PHL to EWR then to CLT. Was about 70% cheaper then EWR-CLT direct. Don’t we save the airline $ if we miss a flight?
do i get orbucks orbitz price assurance if i booked bwith the deal below for 640… how do i claim it?
i need a good deal for pessach from jfk to paris cdg …???
thank you dan
what is ba avios can u provide a link
Does this work from TLV to Chicago and back as well ?
if i purchase can i then upgrade to business using points or miles?
If the return flight is just changing planes in New York will I still be able to get my luggage off?
if i book on orbitz with chase freedom do i automaticly get 5 points?
Would this work for my daughter to come back to US for Pesach?
Is there a minimum stay involved to get this deal?
would this work on a one way ,tlv-ord?
by when do i have to book this flight is there a deadline? thanx dan!
Does this work one way? ie: $311 for Chicago – Tel-Aviv
@HLS Did you bother reading the post? why would your daughter who is in semenery be any different then other people? Dan specifically wrote the days available. Go check them out and stop wasting everyone’s time.
@Tobias: @Tobias: DAN SAID SPECIFICALLY NO ONE WAYS
GUYS, WHY DOES NOONE READ THE POST.
NO ONE WAYS!! SAYS IT CLEARLY
NO IT DOESNT WORK FOR PESACH, DAN WROTE THE DATES VERY KINDLY.
NO IT DOESNT WORK FROM TLV TO ORD, DAN WROTE THAT SPECIFICALLY!!
REGARDING U/G WITH MILES, CALL DELTA DIRECT AND ASK.
NORMALLY MINIMUM IS OVER A WEEKEND. SO LOGIC SAYS THAT IN THIS CASE AS WELL.
Are there blackout dates? I am trying to book a flight leaving around Dec. 17th for 3 weeks and it does not seem to be working :(. Any advice?
Thanks Dan!
@Lilly:
Use ITA to find other dates, as I explain in the post.
On the return flight can I just stay in new York and get my luggage
One wonders if folks like Yaakov, ask these types of questions, just to get everyone going or perhaps Dan could start a separate website for ADD and lazy people who either choose not to read the post or simply can’t focus on a few paragraphs.
If you live in New York, you are going to spend a whole day going NYC – ORD and then ORD – JFK back, first think if its worth it. If you are willing to fly nonstop and just enjoy around $100 discount you can do this, go to kayak.com, and start a multi city trip, first NYC – TLV then TLV – NYC then NYC – ORD on that same day, and you should Delta with a price drop of about $100, try it! and if you are concerned about getting your baggage in JFK you can book LGA – ORD so you definitely don’t have a problem.
@Meir:
😀
@Delta Chicago:
Actually that saves you $73 for the dates I checked (01/13-01/30). Cute, but it’s still $400 more than flying to Chicago.
For a family of 6 you’re looking at an extra $2,400. Worth it for some but not others.
@Dan:
Dan- I spent so much time building up my miles on United to take the family (5 tickets plus infant)to Israel in January. Now you spring this special on us from Delta a non star alliance partner, 🙁
Any ideas on how to trade my united points for Delta points?
@Meir:
You can’t trade but you can always try to find someone to buy your United miles and use those funds to buy these tickets.
right, but different dates saves different amounts, I made a friend book yesterday 2 tickets 11/27 – 12/4 cheapest direct is $1162, and by just adding a flight it brings it down to $1066 thats a $96 saving X 2!!
and a family of six, again depends for who, you are right its a big saving, but on the other hand try fly with small kinderlach up & down the air for 24 hours (some people just get exited on the price & the shtik they dont think reality).
Dan- Do Marriott rewards transfer well to airlines? ( like starwoods points?)
i booked my ticket. THANKS DAN!!!
What would happen if i book a roundtrip ticket from ORD to TLV but only want to use the return trip form TLV – ORD. Is that possible?
Checked baggage has to clear Customs at the first point of entry for all international flights into the USA. This means that on a flight TLV-JFK-ORD you will have to get your baggage at JFK, pass through Customs and then go to the nearest baggage drop to check it in to ORD. Instead of doing that you just walk out at JFK.
is there anything for dec. 27 going to israel
if i want to leave from jfk- can i just miss the first flight from chicago to jfk
We booked! Can’t wait iy”H. At some point Orbitz wasn’t working, so we went straight through Delta’s website. Also made another ticket through United for $112. Where did you find these Delta tickets for only $68? THANK YOU 🙂
i looked on orbitz i could not find these tickets i even called orbitz they could not find anything in that price range. please help. thanks in advance
I had to cancel my ELAL glitch tickets because of the war. Rebooked this way. Thanks Dan.
I am having trouble finding this price..i entered this as a multi city trip and put in ord-jfk, jfk-tva, and return as tva-jfk, jfk-tva..am I doing this worng?
@tk:
You need to book a round-trip from Chicago to Tel Aviv and another one-way from NYC to Chicago.
Just checked nyc-tlv the dates i wanna fly. (end jan-beginning feb). They have transaero (through moscow) for $750!
what do i do with the lugage from chicgo to jfk they want to charge me $100 what do i do about that
thanks dan, ord to tlv via jfk and klm via amsterdam returning for a little more than 640 on the dates i needed.
is this deal over ?\
i tried booking but it shows price 13oo
Dan, I’ve clicked on the link and tried to book the flight for one of the dates that you mentioned and for the $620.97 price from Chicago to Tel Aviv via JFK, but it does not come up on Orbitz when I clicked on it. Is the deal still going on?
the cheapest flight I could find was $971.37
is deal still on as of today 12/9/12 ny to chicago to israel for $689?
HI. I bought one of theses tickets and I was wondering if there is any way that I can depart from Chicago without checking in my bags and then during my stopover in JFK- I would check in my bags..This would make it so that I don’t need to fly to Chicago with my luggage and I can pick it up in NY during my stopover…Thanks
