Chase Will Launch Air Canada Aeroplan Mastercard, Transfer Points To Air Canada!

Air Canada hired 2 of my favorite former Continental/United employees, Scott O’Leary and Mark Nasr, to remake their Aeroplan program. The new program launched last month and offers a ton of amazing values.

Today Air Canada announced that they will launch a Chase Mastercard for the US market in late 2021.

Given Mark and Scott’s extensive ties with Chase after working at Continental and United, that’s no surprise. It is interesting to see Chase launching another Mastercard. Chase used to offer their cards in Mastercard or Visa versions, which was amazing for earning bonuses on cards! But then Chase went exclusively to Visa (except for their IHG card) and converted most Mastercards to Visa.

However Chase recently launched the Freedom Flex as a Mastercard and it seems that trend will continue.

Chase Ultimate Rewards points will also be transferrable to Air Canada Aeroplan in late 2021, which will add a lot of value to the Chase program.

Air Canada can book Star Alliance awards and awards on other partner airlines like Etihad.

For example, while United now charges 15K miles for a last-minute Cleveland to Newark flight, Aeroplan charges just 6K miles. It will be great to have the option of transferring of using points for paid travel or transferring points to the cheaper program for the ticket you need.

Aeroplan also has business class award on Air Canada from 56K miles, or even less for cardholders. Hopefully Chase Air Canada cardholders will also get discounted redemptions.

You can also transfer points from AMEX or Capital One to Aeroplan. I’d imagine those options will remain in place for the time being, but it remains to be seen if they will renew those contracts.
