Hyatt is winning at how to treat your customers during a pandemic. They will gain long-term loyal customers by doing that.
They have been an industry leader during the COVID-19 era in extending awards and benefits and in creating promotions to keep members active and feeling valued.
They also entered the pandemic in a leadership position. While all of the other chains devalued their points to smithereens, Hyatt retained a valuable point currency. That has made their Chase World Of Hyatt Credit Card be a must have hotel card. You can read more about their card’s benefits here.
But their latest promotion may be the most interesting yet.
- The Hyatt Bonus Journeys promotion has been extended for stays through 2/28/21. With that promotion you’ll earn triple points, up to 150K bonus points. Registration is required and will close on 1/15.
- If you have a Hyatt or World of Hyatt credit card then you’ll get quadruple points at 160 participating Hyatt resort properties, 200 SLH properties, and a handful of MGM Resort Destinations, up to 75K additional bonus points.
- Hyatt normally awards 5 points per dollar spent, so you’ll earn 15 points per dollar spent with this promo or 20 points per dollar if you are a cardholder at select hotels. Additionally, elites will earn their standard 0.5-1.5 points per dollar spent and Chase World Of Hyatt Credit Cardholders also earn 4 points per dollar spent on their card. As a Globalist cardholder, I could earn 25.5 points per dollar spent at select hotels, which is equal to a whopping 41% rebate at a value of 1.6 cents per point. That’s pretty incredible!
But even more interesting is that stays with a 2020 checkout date earn 1 elite qualifying night for 2020 and 1 elite qualifying night for 2021. Stays with a checkout date between 1/1/21-2/28/21 earn 2 elite qualifying nights per night stayed for 2021 status!
Plus, Hyatt announced that you can earn top-tier Globalist status in 2021 with just 30 nights.
That means with 15 hotel nights that have a checkout date between 1/1/21-2/28/21 you can earn Globalist status.
Plus Chase World Of Hyatt Credit Card get 5 elite qualifying nights annually, so they would only need 25 nights. Plus you can earn 2 elite qualifying nights for every $5,000 spent.
If you get a new Chase World Of Hyatt Credit Card by 12/31/20 you will get 10 elite qualifying nights in 2020 and 10 elite qualifying nights in 2021. You need to spend $6,000 to earn the 50,000 point signup bonus, so you’ll also earn 2 more elite qualifying nights from the spending, for a total of 12 elite qualifying nights for 2021. That means you just need 18 nights for Globalist status.
If you’re registered for Bonus Journeys and stay 9 nights with a checkout date between 1/1/21-2/28/21 you would have Globalist status via double elite qualifying nights. 2020 nights would also count as long as you don’t checkout until 2021. If you stayed 9 nights at category 1 Hyatt hotels for 5,000 points per night you would earn Globalist through 2/28/23. Or of course you can use paid hotel rates or earn more elite qualifying nights through spending.
Plus, Hyatt is also currently offering 15% points rebate on award stays through 2/28/21! If you have a Hyatt or World of Hyatt credit card then you’ll get a 25% points rebate. That means if you spent 45,000 points for 9 nights at a Hyatt you would get a rebate of 11,250 points for a net cost for Globalist status of 33,750 points.
Unfortunately, milestone rewards will not be changing, so you’ll still need to get 50 or 60 nights to get confirmed suite upgrades, a free systemwide night, and a personal concierge.
Upon hitting 30 nights you will also get a free night at category 1-4 hotels, a value of up to 15,000 points, which can lower your net cost for Globalist status to 18,750 points. If you keep going and hit 40 nights you’ll get a $100 Hyatt gift card or 5,000 bonus points. At 50 nights you’ll get 2 confirmed suite upgrades that are each valid on paid or award stays of up to 7 nights. At 60 nights you’ll get 2 more confirmed suite upgrades on paid or award stays, and a free night at category 1-7 hotels. For every additional 10 night credits you’ll get another confirmed suite upgrade or 10,000 Hyatt points.
You can also get a 500 point nightly bonus when staying at new Hyatt hotels.
If you get Globalist at the 30 night promotional level for 2021, it will be more like “Globalist Lite.” But you still get upgraded to available suites at checkin, free lounge access, free breakfast, waived resort fees on all stays, waived parking fees on award stays, 4pm late checkout, 30% bonus points, and Globalists can share their Globalist benefits on award stays with their friends and family. I even have American Executive Platinum status thanks to being Globalist!
Many Hyatt hotels will also buy Globalists free kosher breakfast where available. I’ve taken advantage of free kosher breakfast in Buenos Aires, Cleveland, Hawaii, Los Angeles, Melbourne, New York, Paris, Sydney, and more.
Not going to spend 9 nights in a hotel by 2/28 to earn globalist? You can always earn 2 elite qualifying nights for every $5,000 spent. The Hyatt card gives a free night at category 1-4 hotels every year, but if you spend $15,000 you get another free night at category 1-4 hotels. Existing cardholders can earn 2 of these bonus nights in 2021. Plus you can combine elite qualifying nights earned from spending with nights earned from stays.

Sorry for the ignorant question, when someone earns status in 2020 or 2021 , when does the status go into affect ? Immediately and expires in a year from the earning date? Or Does it work by calender year across the board ?
If you earn status on 1/10/21 you would get it immediately and it would expire on 2/28/23.
And if later then 1/10/21?
If you reach 30 nights in 2021 the status starts upon qualification and expires 2/28/23.

Does that mean that if you’re a WOH cardholder,. you would only need 10 hotel nights between 1/1-2/28 to earn Globalist status, and that for every $5,000 spent on the cards you can earn two more qualifying nights (i. e. $50,000 would get you the status without any actual nights, or combination thereof?
If are an existing cardholder you would get 5 nights in 2021, so you would need 25 nights for status. If you don’t make any stays (which each count twice) you would need to spend $65,000 to earn 26 nights from spending.
If are a new cardholder you would get 10 nights in 2021, so you would need 20 nights for status. If you don’t make any stays (which each count twice) you would need to spend $50,000 to earn 20 nights from spending.

A new card and 9 nights should be fairly easy for most.

Existing cardholder gets 5 nights, so you need 25 more nights for Globalist.
Each stay with a Jan/Feb checkout date counts double, so you would need 13 nights if you don’t earn any nights from spending on the card.
If paid for a stay and don’t arrive, will it be considered for a qualified night ?
Not unless you can get the hotel to checkin for you somehow.

Yes, this is the question as well as how to do this without having to physically checkin and checkout.
Just to clarify, if I sign up for the WOH CC, my two easiest options are;
A) Spend $65000
B) Stay 9 nights & spend $50000
Is this correct?
1. If are a new cardholder you would get 10 EQNs (elite qualifying nights) in 2021, meaning you need 20 more nights for Globalist.
2. If you spend $6,000 (as you need to get the 50K signup bonus), that will get you 2 EQNs, meaning you need 18 more EQNs for Globalist.
3a. If you spend 9 nights in a hotel with a checkout date of 1/1-2/28 you would get 18 EQNs, which would clinch Globalist status. You would also get a free category 1-4 anniversary night on the card and a free category 1-4 anniversary night for hitting 30 EQNs in a year.
Or
3b. If you spend another $44,000 on your card you would get 18 EQNs, which would clinch Globalist status. You would also get 3rd free category 1-4 night for spending $15K in a year on your card.
Or
3c. A combination of nights and spending to get to 18 EQNs would clinch Globalist status. You would also get 3rd free category 1-4 night if you spend $15K in a year on your card.

With card you get 4x points on top of usual 5x points. I don’t think that equals 20x points does it?
$100 x 4x = 400
$100 x 5 x = 500
so – 900 points (rather than 20x x 100 = 2,000 points).
25.5 points per dollar is 21.5 points per dollar from Hyatt and 4 points per dollar on the World of Hyatt card.
I’m assuming if I can’t cancel my old hyatt card and apply for a new one I won’t lose my free nights and status, how long will I have to wait till I can reapply for the new after I cancel?

Hey Dan, Would you say that between now and 2/28, for a WOH CC holder, it’s better to use cash rather than points for a stay? I see it as a 25% discount on points redemption vs. the 22% off price + 25 points/$ (nights for status should be counted the same). A numerical example: a $300 night stay (member discount) + $50 in taxes and resort fees, and getting 7.5k points vs. 20,000 points (no taxes or resort fees) and getting back 5,000 points from the promo. Am I missing anything?

I’m not so sure about nights that were paid for using points will qualify for this promotion. The language on the website is contradictory
