Transfer AMEX Membership Rewards Points Into Hilton Points At A 1K:2.8K Ratio!
The AMEX Membership Rewards transfer ratio to Hilton has improved over the years from 1:1 to 1:1.5 to 1:2.
Through 10/31, you can transfer AMEX points to Hilton at a 1:2.8 ratio, so you’ll get 2,800 Hilton points for every 1,000 AMEX points.
With Hilton selling points currently for 0.5 cents each, that’s effectively valuing your AMEX points at 1.4 cent each. That’s not an incredible value, but if you have a Hilton redemption in mind you can certainly make the case for transfers at that rate.
Typically, it will only make sense to transfer if you have a specific redemption in mind or if you need more points to have enough to redeem for a 5 night stay, but I wouldn’t transfer points speculatively due to the risk of devaluation, room availability, and hotels being able to leave the Hilton brand.
If you have a Hilton credit card or elite status you get the 5th night free on all award redemptions.
When will it make sense to buy points? An overwater villa with a private pool in the Conrad Maldives can cost $1,500-$3,500 after tax, but its bookable for just 95K Hilton points. That’s like redeeming 33,929 AMEX points from this deal. If you have a Hilton credit card or elite status and stay for 5 nights you’ll need just 76K Hilton points or 27,143 AMEX points/night.
5 nights in the Maldives is pretty much the definition of Heaven on Earth. Read more about the Conrad Maldives here.
The Maldives are currently open for Americans.
Most Hilton hotels are capped at a cost of 95K Hilton points per night for a standard room, but the new Waldorf Astoria Maldives costs 120K Hilton points/night or 42,857 AMEX points/night. If you have a Hilton credit card or elite status and stay for 5 nights you’ll need 96K Hilton points/night or 34,286 AMEX points/night.
Best of all, the Waldorf Astoria Maldives now allows for point redemptions on overwater villas with a pool!
That’s an incredible value compared to the paid rates:
The Waldorf Astoria Los Cabos Pedregal is now bookable for 120K Hilton points per night as well. It’s Trip Advisor’s top ranked hotel in Cabo and is Travel + Leisure’s World’s top resort in Mexico this year.
Similar to the Waldorf Astoria Maldives, you’ll need a whopping 120K Hilton points per night, though with Hilton’s devalued currency that’s still a bargain.
With a 5 night stay you can pay 96K Hilton points per night with the 5th night free award that is available to Hilton cardholders and elites.
Even the base rooms come with a private plunge pool.
Sample paid rate versus the points rate:
Chabad of Cabo has tourist information on their website and operates a kosher restaurant. They’re located just 1.2 miles from the Waldorf! Discuss more about Cabo on DDF here.
The Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem has gotten stingier with the King Superior room space required for a standard points booking. When there is space the rate is 95K Hilton points per night. If you have a Hilton credit card or elite status and stay for 5 nights you’ll need 76K Hilton points/night.
The Waldorf Astoria Jerusalem is one of the finest hotels in Israel.
There is a mind-boggling quantity of awesome kosher food at the hotel’s daily breakfast, from dozens of daily hot dishes to hard cheeses, fresh fruits and pastries to fresh squeezed juices, as well as on-demand dishes like french toast, pancakes, waffles, and eggs. Unlimited wine, hot or cold chocolate drinks, and espresso drinks are included as well!
Breakfast is free on points stays if you have Gold or Diamond status, which you can get just by having a Hilton credit card.
With a breakfast like this, you may not even be hungry for dinner…
Will you transfer AMEX points to Hilton with this transfer bonus?

If I have Amex Business Platinum is that good enough status for 76k 5 nights?
You can use that to enroll in Hilton Gold status for free, so once you do that, yes.
Do you need to have a Hilton CC to transfer points from AMEX? (I have the Gold and ED cards)Or can you just have a Hilton account?
No need for a Hilton card.
