Update: As speculated below, El Al has now confirmed that all flights are suspended through August 31st.
Originally posted on 7/5:
With Israel’s borders closed to foreign nationals through at least July 31st, and El Al in a pilot dispute, the airline remains in hibernation mode and has closed sales of all flights through August 31st.
El Al has been automatically rebooking passengers booked for travel in July on other airlines.

If you are holding El Al tickets for US flights, you can file a DoT complaint to try to get a refund or you can always try disputing the charge with your credit card.
El Al has been pushing travel agents to keep selling tickets, but I can’t imagine buying an El Al ticket at this point in time. They may as well offer a donation receipt instead of a ticket in return!
Are you booked on an El Al flight that appears to be cancelled?

Time to hit the reset button. Remind me how do we sign (worthless) petitions to install Gordon Bethune?
If only!
How about nefesh bnefesh flight?
Contact them directly?
Heard Switched to United
ouch!
Any solution for a LY flight to YYZ that was canceled?
Dispute the charge on your card?
My round trip flight from JFK – TLV on Aug 10-25 still does not show as cancelled on El Al’s site. Any idea as to when that will happen? I doubt Qantas will refund my points until El Al officially cancels the flight.
El Al waits until the last minute to officially cancel flights to push off the deadlines to offer refunds (though they’ve blown through those deadlines anyway).
Just keep watching it and then contact Qantas. You’ll get back the points even if you contact them after the flight.
So in this case it’s points to be refunded by Qantas, not cash by El Al. But I guess El Al doesn’t care either way. I just hope Qantas will make us whole with the points.
Can you let us know what happens? I wonder if it is easier or harder to get refunds when it’s booked via partner miles. There might be something in the agreement between the airlines that requires the cancelling airline- in this case ElAl- to refund the booking airline- Qantas- if the booking airline is required to refund the passenger under their own terms and conditions. Or, maybe ElAl could still say we don’t care, and then Qantas has to decide to take the loss and refund the passenger, or not. Either way, please keep us posted what happens.
Qantas has been refunding points for El Al flights.
Thanks!!
I had success canceling a elal ticket bought thru Qantas points even before the flight was officially canceled by elal
what method of contact did you use to get qantas to cancel? what did you tell them
My daughters seminary is leaving on el al flights in late august will those be cancelled? Are those cancelled?!!
In all likelihood they will be cancelled.
It’s also completely up in the air as to whether new students will be allowed into the country.
With about 2 weeks left until they have to decide on August, and unfortunately the outbreak spiking, is there really a change that tourists or students be allowed to go? My son was supposed to go for Elul, which is August 21st. I’ve all but given up and have decided not to book a flight. I’m not even sure bout after succos! Am I wrong?
They may allow students to go if they quarantine for 2 weeks. TBD…
If you book United you can get a voucher good for 2 years if you need to cancel. Or use miles and get them back for free if you want to cancel.
In time for Elul or for after succos? Should I book multiple flights on Delta (using skymiles)? Am I able to cancel any booking after without penalty?
My son had a round trip from TLV to EWR. He did the first leg but probably won’t be going back….anyway to get a refund on the return half?
I have made DOT complaint, elal complaint etc and credit card charge too old dispute, screed again. ELAL YOU SUCKKKKKKK
“El Al has been automatically rebooking passengers booked for travel in July on other airlines.”
*********
My flight was cancelled but I didn’t receive a notice about being booked on another airline.
How do I find out about that?
Thanks.
I have the same question.
Can someone please answer?
The writing has been on the wall for a long time.
ELAL has flawed corporate DNA, there were several warning signs (Shabbos flights, pilot problems), those that chose to ignore them did so at their own risk. It was just a can being kicked further down the road. A company with that kind of corporate DNA should be subject to natural selection (aka creative distruction).
They should suspend all flights forever 🙂
That’s just priceless. Frum Yids wish that thousands of El Al employees should have their parnassas and lives destroyed because of a few dolts in senior management.
It’s not just senior managment. It’s the super powerful pilots union, and possibly also the cabin crew union. No, not sorry that they get what’s coming to them.
in all likelihood Yeshivas or seminaries will not be opening to foreign students until after Succos
I had a ticket to fly JFK to Tel Aviv on March 16. ElAl did not cancel the flight. I canceled and they told me i could rebook without penalty by November 2020 (a year from when i bought the ticket) and had to fly by February. What steps should i be taking? Anything? Given that I’m 70 years old and have no idea if i should think about getting on a plane in any case…
Yes, see the last paragraphs of this post.
I have a flight for august 17th from Newark, I’m married with two kids, what course of action should i take?
My son was booked on 8/26 out of JFK; Booked him on Delta with miles as a backup.
so is United the only way to get to Israel for Israeli Citizens ?
Anyone have luck getting Chase points refunded for a cancelled El Al flight?
File a DOT complaint against Expedia/Chase
Yes. First time I called Chase they said nothing they could do. Next day I called and person refunded my points while on the phone. I had pointed her to the covid notice on elal site that all flights were cancelled. Also told her that elal had told me that I had to contact Chase since booked through them. She looked and said okay. This was back when they extended the cancellations through 7/31 and I didn’t see the flight listed on their schedule anymore (schedule is also available on elal’s site).
Dan, how do you get all that info? Do manually search each flight? Sounds like a lot of work. Kol Hakavod to you for gathering all that and for all you do!
At this stage, what are the chances Israel is open to tourists for Succos? Have a whole bunch of itineraries I would need to cancel (not on El Al). May as well start the process now?
Very small.
We had flights for June 16 EWR-TLV, that were canceled. Is there anything to do beside for DOT complaint to get a refund?
Can also file a credit card dispute.
My 8/3/20 Flight JFK-TLV still shows as confirmed on the website. I purchased with QF points and would be happy with a voucher to use in the future. I made a request online but haven’t heard back and have not received a cancellation email.
Call Qantas.
September of which year??
You write that they automatically rebooked passengers on other airlines. Can I assume that they’ll do that for me should they still not be flying in September? (I have a flight booked with them for 9/17
I would not count on that.
What is the process with ElAl tickets booked through Chase using UR, do I contact chase for refund, is chase on our side or making things complicated getting a refund.
Just watch how Israel thinks that they can win COVID. They’re crashing their economy into the ground. It’s worse than California and Michigan there. Drum people are the most targeted. This might be the way in for mashiach
Does anyone know the likely of yeshivas opening up in Israel for Elul next zman?
you mean this elul or next?
in any case the Mir said today that they’ll know by the end of the week
My son’s yeshiva, Netiv, had us book Delta 8-31, and is expected to go!
September flights seem to be cancelled now too from Toronto
Finally received my refund – for a Pesach flight (booked and paid Dec 2019). I did write a letter to Chase Sapphire- not sure if they intervened or not. But the refund posted.
