China has been refusing US airlines attempts to resume service to the country.
In retaliation, the US will announce today that Chinese carriers will have to end service to the US.
It’s another escalation of the tension between the countries since the Trump administration accused the Chinese government of allowing COVID-19 to escape from a Wuhan lab and then covering it up
Earlier this year China lashed out at the US and Israel for banning foreign nationals that had been to China, even comparing the bans to the holocaust.
But China now desperately wants to keep COVID-19 out of its borders. This Twitter thread shows the shocking procedures needed to fly Air China from Los Angeles to Beijing these days.
Ultimately the goal here is to compel China to honor their bilateral aviation agreements with the US. Negotiations to make that happen have broken down, which is what has led to today’s ban.
Do you think nonstop flights will resume between the US and China?

No, this is for mainland China.
Then again at the rate things are devolving in HKG, it probably won’t be long until “2 systems” is eliminated.
I heard HK closed their borders for another 3 months!
Wow! That plane ride to Beijing looks scary. Everyone should check that out.
Holy guacamole, ur right
I dont get it. If China desperately wants to keep out Covid, 19 why are they offering service on their own carriers? What dif does it make which airline it is bringing in the passengers?
They can enforce their own regulations.
