Update, 07/09: The glitch has been fixed and business and first class availability on Singapore is back to nil. Congrats to those who booked when everything was open, hit the comments to share what you booked!
If you’ve ever had your eyes on flying Singapore Airlines you probably know that awards for their business and first class seats are hard to come by. Singapore Airlines has some of the finest business and first class service in the world.
Yet if you are ready to book now there is awesome availability. This is probably a glitch, so you definitely don’t want to sit on the fence too long on this! You can always cancel a ticketed award for 24 hours with no penalties. I don’t recommend holding the award as they likely will not honor a held reservation once the glitch is closed.
-Singapore runs a business-class only nonstop flight from Newark to Singapore that clocks in at a whopping 18 hours and 40 minutes. Service on the plane is intimate with just 100 business class seats on the entire plane in a 1-2-1 configuration. This is usually a tough award to get, but it is widely open for nearly all months right now for 120,000 United miles round trip. And yes, there is Chabad in Singapore.
If you don’t have enough United miles you can instantly transfer miles from Chase Ultimate Rewards to anyone’s United account.
Just search for a nonstop award flights on United.com from EWR to SIN and you’ll get this help calendar to help you find dates:
Have your eyes on an overwater bungalow in the Maldives? There’s tons of availability for 120,000 miles round-trip from Newark via Singapore and the schedule is very good compared to other methods of getting there.
EWR-MLE schedule:
MLE-EWR schedule:
For example the Hyatt Visa gives 2 free nights that you can use at the Park Hyatt Maldives and other Ultimate Rewards cards like the Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card Visa, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card World Mastercard, and the Ink Bold all give points that can be transferred to Hyatt where their top-tier award rate is just 22,000 points per night with no blackout dates or capacity controls.
-Want to fly to Europe or experience the A380 jumbo jet? There’s plenty of awards from JFK to Frankfurt nonstop on the Singapore for 100,000 miles round-trip.
-Want to fly in Singapore First Class? Their suites are not bookable with United miles, but you can fly from S. Fransisco to Singapore via Seoul or Hong Kong in First Class for 140,000 miles round-trip.
-Or you can fly from Houston to Moscow nonstop in business class for 100,000 miles or in first class for 135,000 miles.
Of course with any of these trips you can also tag on connecting flights to visit anywhere else in the world. I was able to hold awards and then have United call me to add on other saver awards legs for free. And of course you can always stopover in additional places or have open jaws in your tickets as well, though those typically require a phone call to make it happen.

8/14 fra jfk still available
I saw thishappen last night Israel time but since this morning I haven’t seen any availability. Any idea why not?
@Chaim:
There’s still plenty of availability.
Search for nonstop flights to make it easier to find as I write in the post.
does this help me with flying isreal to new york?
Figured it out…I was searching in August. I see lots of availability starting September. Last night all of August was available too.
How do get all those United points fast?
@yaakov:
If you’re willing to stopover in Frankfurt then search for JFK-FRA nonstop and then search for FRA-TLV nonstop.
Hold the JFK-FRA flights and then have United call you to add the FRA-TLV flights that are available at the saver level.
Total will be 120K in business round-trip to TLV. Just make sure you are on Singapore from JFK-FRA and not Lufthansa. Singapore is lie-flat in business, Lufthansa is not.
@Shmilfke:
Find someone with Ultimate Rewards points?
Ooooo
Hey dan, you write that I can tag on additional flights at no extra (mileage) charge.
Do you have A post explaining this trick/method/rule?
If yes, can you please provide a link? Thanx
I got a citi card that gives thankyou points. How can I transfer them to British or Singapore miles.
what about flying regular coach is there a good deal tel aviv-new york
Hey Dan,
I have been eyeing the singapore suites for a while like you write non bookable with united, has something changed with this glitch? Are you pointing out availibility or is it bookable somehow?
Are these bookable thru united.com or how?
I don’t think SQ would have a glitch like this, they could just want to fill up some seats and release some availability like airlines should be doing.
@deal lurker:
Some basic info:
http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/17369
@yoel:
As of now you still can’t.
@Moose:
First class is bookable, but not on A380 suite routes.
@Moose:
Yes.
@Eli:
Perhaps, but to go from having no availability to tons of availability on the same weekend as a major systems conversion…sounds like a glitch to me!
From Wikipedia:
“Islam is the official religion of the Maldives and open practice of any other religion is forbidden and liable to prosecution. “
is it possible to use aeroplan miles for this?
dml: Yes
Eli: It’s got to do with the singapore systems upgrade.
dan, what did you book?
do you expect that to change any time in the future.
Hi Dan;
How can I book a singapore suite?
@David:
you can’t.
But you can book in first and hope that they change the aircraft to a A380 in the future
Business class on Sing Air is amazing. The seats/beds are huge.
It would be fun to fly in the suites, but the business class seats are really stupendous. And the flight attendants give you what you need/want before you practically think about it. But the flights to Singapore are loooonnnnnggg.
Anything possible leaving from Seattle ? I have 130,000 united miles now.
I think its dead now but thanks I booked yesterday
If I want to Fly LHR-MEL with a stop in NYC (business class0 whats the best airline/combination
Hey Dan, I noticed in your link to the saver awards fare link that you can add a free stopover when flying with AA. Is this also possible on United or is it only with AA?
Missed it!
Was looking for a way of getting from TPA > BKK using my United miles and transferring my UR points. Singapore has flights from SIN > BKK and Koi Samui.
@Dan, yet again you found something wonderful and I was too late to jump on board.
I was able to get a trip in August in for:
JFK-FRA in J on the SQ A380
FRA-CDG in LH J
spending 3 days in Paris
CDG-MUC-AMS: in LH J
Spending 5 days in AMS
AMS-EWR: UA Y (it was a morning flight, and we’ll manage with out a lie flat seat)
Total: 80K P/P + $125 in taxes and fees
Some Singapore flights like SIN-MEL still showing available on united.com but you try to book it it gives you an error….so now its just a tease…
