Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu announced that all Israelis must wear a mask at all times when outside of their home.

Those that don’t have a mask can can wear a scarf or some of other facial covering over their nose and mouth, such as cloth and rubber bands.

On Sunday I made a post asking if it was time for the US and CDC to backtrack on their previous guidance of not using masks in public.

Since then the CDC is now weighing whether to advise Americans to start wearing a mask when they leave their homes.

Prime Minister Netanyahu also announced that they would be making direct deposits of NIS 500 for each senior citizen and for each child under 18 as a stipend for Passover food.

He is asking everyone to celebrate Passover only with their immediate family that is living with them. That’s good advice.

Israel will restrict movement in and out of Bnei Brak, which has become a coronavirus epicenter in Israel.

Netanyahu also said that he thinks the US estimate of 100,000-250,000 American deaths is an optimistic forecast.

Do you think the US will advise or require Americans to wear a mask outside of their homes? Is Netanyahu right about the US mortality forecast being optimistic?

Hey

I guess the Arabs won’t have a problem with that

Shekl

@dan

And you’ll allow this kind of talk here? Really is this necessary?

Daniele

I hope so.
With the rate of infection rising as quickly as it is, we need to be as careful as we possibly can. That’s not happening right now, and too many people are dying too quickly.
As deadly as this is, I personally, think it’s absolutely shameful that the USA didn’t take extreme measures right from the get-go.

Audrey

Hear. Hear!!

Dave

The USA was asleep at the wheel until it got too late.

Glushtygiz

Purposely asleep . U hafta kno trumps cheshbon

Joe

Zero “cheshbon”
They didn’t wanna disrupt the country – and the stock market!

Dave

I hope not. Those pilly purim masks won’t do much of anything for healthy individuals, you’ll just be breathing in your dirty air

Mark

Breathing your own “dirty” air is not a problem it is breathing the “clean” air of someone else who is sick.

Daniele

But people don’t KNOW they’re contagious at first.
Your infected and contagious before you show any signs.

DR

Dave- NOT TRUE. If someone sneezes on you, your mask can absorb droplets- can your nose or lips push them away if it’s exposed?

Dave

If everyone had to wear masks, then the sneeze wouldn’t get to your mask, would it? It would get stopped by his.

Look it up

So people between 18 and 65 are supposed to starve?!

Moishebatchy

Yup. The stipend is also limited to your first 4 children, so child number 5 and onward don’t get breakfast. Oh well… that’s life. ‍♂️

Mark

Isn’t it time for the government to enforce the defense production act to produce more masks. This shortage of masks is absolutely mind boggling.

Dave

Are the 500 shekel stipend only for Israeli citizens or also for students (with a student visa)?

Izzy

Thats their big stimulus? $150 a person? Such cheap skates. In the USA its $1200 per adult and $500 per child. Are they for real?

Moe

stuff costs less in israel. national health care, mass transportation etc…

Samdaman

what transportation!? STAY INSIDE!!!!!

sara

pretty hard to require people to wear masks when there is extremely limited availability

YG

The stipend is for up to 4 children. You will not receive 500 NIS for the 5th child onward. If you have Bituach Luemi, it’s possible you will receive it despite not being an actual Israeli citizen. That is still unknown but possible considering eligibility for other programs such as Kitzvat Yeladim (child stipends) and Maanak Leida (birth stipend).

Ellen

It’s a good idea. Now where can we buy the masks?

Yitz G

The word used in hebrew with the new mask requirement is מבקשים, which many english news sources mistranslated as requiring. In fact, its just a request.

Moe

If they do require masks i can just imagine a scene:\
A guy plans on robbing a store. He does the whole getup such as a bandits mask and everything. We walks in with his hand in his pocket to the cash register, “this is a stickup! gimme all the money!”
“I’m sorry sir”, the cashier says, “there’s a line, please wait 6 feet behind the last person”. “No, you don’t understand”, says our poor thief, “i robbing the joint, don’t you see my mask?”.
“Cute” says one of the customers, “but get to the back of the line”.
Our friend, realizing he’s not convincing anyone, leaves the store dejectedly.
