If you have Verizon and are thinking of getting a smartphone or are thinking of switching to Verizon, today is the last day to signup for the double the data promotion.
Currently Amazon has the Galaxy Nexus for just $0.01 for new customers or new family lines! It runs the latest and greatest 4.04 Ice Cream Sandwich stock Android software. It will unlock at the sight of your face and can instantly sync the open tabs, bookmarks, and settings from Chrome on your computer to Chrome on your phone, among many other features.
Verizon sells the Galaxy Nexus for $199.99 to new customers, so this is a discount of $200 off of their pricing!
The Galaxy S3 is coming out later this month, but by then it will be too late to signup for double the data. If you order today though you should still be able to exchange phones for the next 14, or possibly 30 days via Amazon. Note that the Galaxy S3 runs TouchWiz and isn’t a pure Google Android phone like the Galaxy Nexus is.
Normally Verizon charges $30 for 2 GB of data, but until today they will give 4GB of data for the same $30. The promotion is only on 4G LTE smartphones, not phones running on the older 3G data network (sorry Apple fanbois!)
During the Amazon checkout process you will be able to select 4GB of data for the price of 2GB, $30/month.
A data plan is required to activate any smartphone on Verizon.
Since I got my awesome Galaxy Nexus in December (a big upgrade from my Palm Centro :D) I’ve averaged about 3GB of data per month, so although I’m on an old grandfathered unlimited plan, if you are thinking of getting a smartphone with 4G LTE you definitely will want those extra 2 GB.
Fair warning though, once you have a phone like this you will never be able to go back. The integration with Google is fantastic, internet browsing on the massive screen is perfect, and just the GPS app alone, which is awesome for driving and for walking directions when in unfamiliar places, is worth the price of admission. Seriously Garmin, you guys need to learn how to do POIs from Google!
While tethering on my laptop via the Galaxy Nexus (free with a free app!) I typically get speeds of about 15 Mbps down and 8 Mbps up which is awesome and is another reason to lock in those 2 extra GB of data!

I already have unlimited data on my current plan and i want to buy the galaxy nexus and sell my iphone. can i get the phone for 150 without changing my current data plan? it looks like the only way to do this is to allow them to bill you $30/month for nothing. am i looking at this right?
@Margo:
Just click “upgrade my phone” and “Keep my existing unlimited data plan”
@Dan: The verizon galaxy nexus is the best phone verizon has, thanx so much for the promotion code you gave me earlier in the year for the phone!!
Which app has free tethering for the galaxy nexus and where can it be downloaded?
Not sure what will actually happen, but if you currently have an unlimited plan, it might be smart to change to the 4gb promo http://cnet.com/news/verizon-to-kill-unlimited-data-plans-for-existing-subscribers/57435601
Dan:
Why in the world would you ever recommend anyone to rip off Verizon? Granted they probably have the best network, but there are much cheaper pre-paid smartphone plans available out there.
Also, not sure if you are aware of this, but check out

When it starts rolling out this summer, the smartphone plan will only be 19 a month for unlimited everything. I’ve already secured my spot in line. :O)
foxfi is blocked on sprint so i downloaded the app from http://foxfi.com/bin but when im conected the 4g connection bar disappears, anyone have any experience with this?
thanks in advance
My TomTom GPS uses google for POI’s when connected to wifi. It’s an incredible app (and free for all jailbreakers), doesn’t need internet to work either.
Dan,
As this was posted last night, I didnt see it till this morning. Is there any way for me to still get it?
Thanks
@Pyrate Baruch:
Enjoy the fine print they have for their users:

@yaakov:
Nope, but it may be time to follow @dansdeals on twitter so you never miss another deal!
dont have a twitter account & get so many junk emails as it is- i never look at em!
@Dan: I think republicwireless has revamped everything. I doubt they will have 4g but for $20, its not a bad deal to check em out for a month…
@yaakov: Looks like it’s still live?
@rebecca – i went on & added to cart- didnt see 4 gb option for $30? Mind telling me how you did it for it to show? Thanks
I didn’t read the fine print but will. Nevertheless, Verizon is a rip off.
Thanks.
