Earlier this week, Israel announced some of the harshest coronavirus bans in the world. Non-Israelis who have visited China, Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, or Thailand in the past 2 weeks are not welcome into the country.
Israeli citizens returning from those locations are being asked to self-quarantine for 14 days, though that’s not being strictly enforced.
Unsurprisingly, Cathay Pacific has announced that their daily flight between Tel Aviv and Hong Kong has been suspended until Israel lifts the ban. Flights have been cancelled at least through March 28th. You can get a refund or make free changes on previously booked flights from 2/19-3/31.
I’ve previously written about how well Cathay Pacific was doing in Tel Aviv. Hopefully that will pick up where it left off, after the restrictions are lifted.
Cathay previously suspended flights to Milan, Newark, Rome, Washington DC, the Maldives, and more.
El Al also previously suspended flights to Beijing and Hong Kong and they have decreased flights to Bangkok. El Al says that they are counting on government handouts to weather the coronavirus storm.
