For the first time in many years, there is an Israel option on the current PointsBreak list!
IHG normally sells 5,000 points for $67.50 or 1.35 cents per point, but with targeted offers after you login it can be even less. Currently I’m targeted to buy points for 1 cent each and IHG will also double all the points you purchase through 11/16. To get the lowest rate (.5 cents per point) you’ll need to purchase at least 26K points which will be doubled to 52K points for $260. Of course you’ll also earn points on your credit card which will make the effective rate less than .5 cents per point.
You can purchase 100K points per member per year, so you can get up to 200K points with this promotion which would cost $1,000.
If those points don’t post instantly you can call IHG to get a points loan based on your purchase confirmation number in order to quickly grab a room. Alternatively you can transfer 5,000 Chase Ultimate Rewards points to IHG, though transfers are not instant and it’s a terrible use of Ultimate Rewards points.
With PointsBreaks, you can stay at the Crowne Plaza Haifa for just 15K points instead of 30K points per night. With a targeted points purchase offer you can buy 60K points for $300, which is enough for 4 nights at the hotel at a cost of just $75 per night with no taxes owed! Plus if you have the IHG Premier credit card you’ll get your 4th night free!
The advance purchase rate for a January stay is 878 ILS ($248) and the flexible rate is 975 ILS ($276) per night, plus taxes for Israeli residents.
At $276, that’s a value of 1.84 cents per point, nearly 4 times the price you can buy the points for with a targeted offer!
You can book up to 2 PointBreaks reservations per hotel. There’s no limit to how long each of the stays can be.
IHG PointBreaks now cost 5K, 10K, or 15K points per night, depending on the hotel.
If you have the IHG Premier credit card you’ll also get Platinum status and every 4th award night for free! That means a 4 night stay at a 5K hotel will cost just 15K points or 3,750 points per night!
If you have both the old IHG Select card and the IHG Premier card you’ll get every 4th award night free AND a 10% rebate on award nights!

Are Israelis charged VAT on awards?
No, there’s nothing to tax but you will be charged on anything beyond that such as meals
The cost of the night doesn’t include breakfast?
No. In the past, Holiday inn Ashkelon charged me for an infant, even though IHG has a free kid policy. Hotel claimed it’s for “insurance”
Just rebooked my December stay in Rotorua, NZ for half the number of points! First time in years that my stars have aligned with Point Breaks lists. Wahoo!
