Skyscanner has dirt cheap one-way flights on United to London. The tickets will be sold via a United codeshare airline partner.
Sample Newark to London $111 dates:
July 14, 15, 16, 17
September 23, 24, 25
October 6
November 6, 17
December 3, 10
January 19, 26
February 2, 9, 25
March 4
More dates are also available, just search via Skyscanner and then click through to an online travel agency.
If you get an error that a fare isn’t available, try clicking on another codeshare or another online travel agency option.
Note that changes/cancellations with these agencies come at a charge or may not be possible, even within 24 hours.
Cheap fares are also available from other cities, including Boston, Chicago, Washington DC, and more.
DD reader Leon notes that his tickets booked into Basic Economy/K class, but he was still able to select seats on United.com and it said that he would have a free checked bag even without using a United credit card. YMMV (Your mileage may vary) on that working for you, but post your experience in the comments!
You can use a card like Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card or Sapphire Reserve to earn 2 or 3 Chase points per dollar spent and get free travel/medical insurance, trip/luggage delay protection, and more!
This fare is not available from London back to the US, but Norwegian offers cheap one-way fares from London to the US. Alternatively you can use miles for a one-way ticket back home. Consider looking for a ticket home from any other city in Europe and using miles or a cheap ticket from London to another city in Europe.

What means a codeshare ?
Another airline is selling the ticket for travel on a United plane.
why would airlines give other airlines the opportunity to sell their tickets?
Because they are partners and they share revenues on many routes.
Nothing working for me on oct.6 from ewr
Dates can sell out, but did you try a codeshare with another airline and all of the travel agency options?
Yes I did. It keeps telling me there is a server issue.
I had the same issue, so I called them, and they did it over the phone
Hi, Which airline did you call? And what price did you get?
Dan,
Off top of your head, any good cheap points suggestions for returning? Presumably not ex-LON due to tariffs. Thanks.
Use Avios or a train to get to any other city you want to explore in Europe and then use 30K United miles?
Yep, sounds about right. Thanks.
& how much is the return tkt??
Read the post?
I thought you always get 1 free checked bag on international?
Not on basic economy fares.
Yes always one free bag international
You are correct
Not on basic economy fares.
Not anymore!
They have “basic economy” on transoceanic flights?
Unfortunately, yes.
BOS-LHR
Roundtrip, Thanksgiving weekend, $358 Basic Economy on Delta/Virgin Atlantic.
$315 from BOS on Virgin Atlantic
is there anything for early june for shavous dates?
Just try punching in dates and see what comes up.
From experience the cheapest return with points will almost always be Aer Lingus using BA Avios 12,500 pts returning from DUB-BOS.
justbtried giving me price 613.00

Dan, you mentioned the tickets may not be able to be cancelled even within 24 hours. Doesn’t the DoT mandate a 24 hr cancellation window (for free)? I recall you mentioning it in other posts.
Only mandated directly from the airline.
what does that mean either you can cancel or not within in 24 hours?
so why does priceline and other OTA’s offer 24 hr cancellation?
July 16 to LHR $209. I’m wondering once I book this thickets in United.com can I see the booking and arrange sits and free luggage like you posted above ?
Does it work from Atlanta?
what is an online travel agency?
How much does basic economy fare earn towards meeting challenge threshold?
still available?
