Delta originally flew from Atlanta to Tel Aviv, but quickly realized that flying from JFK would be more profitable and they shifted the route to that hub.
They flew one daily evening flight from JFK to Tel Aviv until 5/26/16 when they added 4 weekly daytime flights to the route. It didn’t last long. Even before they started flying the daytime flights, they announced that they would cancel the additional 4 weekly flights effective 9/6/16, leaving them with just the daily evening flight.
Delta announced last year that they would once again be adding a daily daytime flight between JFK and Tel Aviv starting 6/16/19.
And once again Delta is killing off the daytime flight before it even starts flying.
- The daytime flight won’t operate from JFK on the following dates in September 2019: 2, 5, 9, 12, 16, 19, 23, 26, 29, 30.
- The daytime flight won’t operate from Tel Aviv on the following dates in September 2019: 3, 6, 10, 13, 17, 20, 24, 27, 30
- The daytime flight won’t operate from JFK on the following dates in October 2019: 3, 8, 10, 14, 17, 21, 24, 26, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31
- The daytime flight won’t operate from Tel Aviv on the following dates in October 2019: 4, 8, 9, 11, 15, 18, 22, 25, 27, 28, 29, 30, 31
The final date with a daytime flight from JFK is 10/25/19 and the final date with a daytime flight from Tel Aviv is 10/26/19.
If you are booked on one of those flights you’ll want to call Delta to discuss your options.
Once again, Delta finds itself playing behind El Al and United in the lucrative NYC-Tel Aviv market.
What’s your preferred airline for flights to Israel?

Deja Vu Deja Vu
Dang!!
I’m a Delta Medallion and just accumulated enough sky miles for a hopefull fall/winter trip…
Now what?!?
They will still operate the evening JFK-Tel Aviv flight.
But with Delta Skypesos? You’ll need to daven hard for saver award space on that route 🙂
We weren’t going to get any saver awards even with the extra flight
This is quite sad though
Prefer Delta. Diamond Medallion.
No big deal, not planning to ever fly there.
עני ורוחב על החמור
עני ורוכב על החמור
In the winter I prefer EGE-EWR-TLV-SFO-EGE on UA, the rest of the year I prefer DEN-FRA-TLV on LH.
UAL ORD>EWR>TLV
If the route is as lucrative as you say, why kill it?
Same question here. Do they have a more lucrative route they need the planes for? Was the timings bad?
Clearly it wasn’t lucrative enough for them. El Al and United do a lot better than they do on this route.
Why?
For starters they’re more established on the route.
Aside for sales during slow months, their pricing doesn’t seem to be competitive most of the year. Elal and United are routinely cheaper by hundreds! Maybe they’re not filling up planes.
Barely any Skyteam elites in IL (probably due to lack of options and mostly economy-style J to Europe). Many more *A and El Al elites.
Good luck getting to Tel Aviv on that 737 in the picture
How can they fly to Tel Aviv if it doesn’t exist l’shitasam
Bummed. Love flying Delta and would love more options to Israel instead of the 1 flight. Creates a lot of issues
For direct, definitely preferred Delta.
Out of Miami (where I live) I prefer to fly Turkish Airline because they allow two suitcases and B’H I have children and grandchildren in Israel.
Elal hands down. I hate delta. They are rude and unprofessional
Platinum Medallion. Just booked tickets June 27 on the AM TLV-JFK flight. Glad to see that’s still safe. What I think is that Delta panics when the seats don’t start selling fast enough. JFK is a major hub for Delta for flights all over US. They should go after the Christian market whose tourists are coming to Israel in droves and many of whom use the Delta PM flight. They will be able to provide connecting flights to all their home towns. What Delta needs is patience for their PR department to work the route.
Another reason for AA to consider…
If anything I think AA would be thru PHL as their hub, not NYC.
Silver on delta get to take 2 suitcases
Thanks for the info, Dan. With Delta deciding they will make more money in JFK rather than ATL, does it make any sense for El Al to fly to Atlanta? I know it’s a Delta hub, but they decided they can make more elsewhere so El Al may not have competition. With El Al expanding their reach in North America, it would be great to have a direct flight to Atlanta again.
Delta has always been my airline of choice to Israel.
+1. Just took it, comfortable seats, friendly service!
Out of the direct flight North America – TLV only AC “felt” better!
What other airlines can I use delta points on?
delta is the way to go
Delta is best price, service and your frequent flyer points don’t expire. I used to send my family on El Al and I was a member of matmid. Spent a fortune and never received a single perk or upgrade.
