Back in the SPG days, Delta Crossover allowed members to earn earn points, get upgrades, and free checked bags between the programs, with extra benefits for elite members.

That was killed when Marriott bought SPG as they already had RewardsPlus, which has benefits between United and Marriott, such as 10% bonus miles on transfers (60K Marriott=27.5K United), free Marriott Gold status for United Golds and higher, and free United Silver status for Marriott Titanium elites and higher.

Hyatt and American have announced that they will link up as well.

• AA elites will earn 1 AA mile for every eligible dollar spent at qualifying Hyatt properties.
• AA top-tier ConciergeKey members will receive top-tier World of Hyatt Globalist status.
• Hyatt elites will earn 1 Hyatt point mile for every eligible dollar spent on qualifying American flights.
• AAdvantage Platinum, Platinum Pro and Executive Platinum members, and Explorist and Globalist World of Hyatt members will also have the opportunity to participate in limited time status challenges. Upon registering, these elite members will be able to immediately enjoy their new loyalty benefits in the reciprocal program tier as they work to maintain that elite tier status. AAdvantage elite members will have access to World of Hyatt elite status benefits, including a dedicated check-in area, late check-out upon request, room upgrades and free premium internet. World of Hyatt elite members will have access to AAdvantage elite status benefits such as priority boarding, free checked bags, free preferred seats and more.

It’s not much, especially given that the matches are just challenges that will require flights or stays in a limited window, though the exact details for that program have yet to be released. It’s hard to see 1 mile or point per dollar spent changing anyone’s travel habits, though it’s a nice perk to have.

Chase World Of Hyatt Credit Cardholders automatically get elite status, which in turn allows them to earn Hyatt points on AA flights and take advantage of AA elite challenges. Read more about the Hyatt card here.

The Citi AA Executive card gives 10K elite qualifying miles for spending $40K in a year to help you reach AA elite status, which in turn allows to you to earn AA miles for Hyatt stays and take advantage of Hyatt elite challenges.

The biggest benefit will be for ConciergeKey members, who get top-tier Globalist status, though it won’t come with confirmed suite upgrades. You can read more about the Hyatt program and how to get elite status with credit card spending in this post.
