Globes is reporting that Virgin Atlantic will begin service between London/LHR and Tel Aviv on 9/25/19. This has been rumored ever since it was announced last June that Shai Weiss, an Israeli, would become CEO of Virgin Atlantic. He began the new job last month.
Heathrow to Tel Aviv already sees 4 daily widebodies between British Airways and El Al and there is lots of competition from other London area airports, but Virgin clearly sees the opportunity here.
Connections will be available from many US cities to Tel Aviv via their London hub and lie-flat seats will be available in business class on both legs.
London-Tel Aviv will be the shortest flight in the Virign Atlantic network.
You can transfer miles from AMEX, Chase, Citibank, or Marriott to Virgin Atlantic, though they do collect fuel surcharges on award tickets for their own flights. However there are often transfer bonuses from AMEX and Citibank to Virgin Atlantic and they Virgin Atlantic also has award sales that may make this a worthwhile redemption, so stay tuned for those.

I thought they don’t collect fuel surcharge when you redeem for domestic Delta award tickets?
I’m referring to their own flights.

Will they have low cost fares to Israel?
Will DL charge fuel surcharges for these flights?
This was reported by Globes back in December 2018, though. With the details about the Eurovision flight, the September introduction of the Tel Aviv route, etc.

I wrote in the post that it’s been rumored since last year.
Now it is confirmed.
what will be the amount of miles from usa/london to tlv ?
Dan,
You say they will be flying out of their hub in London. Is that going to be all in terminal 3 heathrow, or must you switch terminals, which is a major hassle in Heathrow, since it is a very inconvenient airport for stopovers.
Most likely 10k eco, 17.5k prem eco, 37.5k upper as these are the DXB rates, though with the distance being less…
Have they posted fares yet?
