I wrote a couple of weeks ago about Delta adding a 2nd daily flight between JFK and Tel Aviv.
That flight is now available for sale for flights starting on 6/16/19.
The new afternoon flight from JFK departs at 3:45pm and arrives into Tel Aviv at 9:35am. The new morning flight from Tel Aviv departs at 11:35am and arrives into JFK at 4:50pm.
Delta now matches up closely with United’s 2 daily flights out of Newark and takes away a big advantage that United held over Delta thanks to the extra daily flight.
You can now book these flights for 43K Delta miles each way:
You can also book for just 29K miles each way with Air France Flying Blue miles. You can transfer points from AMEX, Barclays, Chase, Citi, or Marriott to Flying Blue. However availability is not as good as with Delta miles.
Flights are also bookable for 40K Virgin Atlantic miles each way and there is a 30% transfer bonus from AMEX or Citi. Plus Virgin Atlantic allows award holds for 72 hours. However you must call Virgin Atlantic to book award travel to Tel Aviv at 800-365-9500.
Do you prefer the afternoon or evening flight into Tel Aviv and the morning or evening flight back to JFK?

Dan, does Delta have a limited inventory for mileage tickets per flight ? Or as many tickets there are open there will be availability ?
Saver awards are always limited.
On the new flight you don’t have to daven Shachris on the flight to Israel.
Landing at 9:35 then comes the whole entry experience and customs and bags … you are looking at 10-1030… most would have wanted to have davened already
No business class ?
Can’t I call air France to book over the phone if it’s not visible on there site but are on delta.com ?
Delta almost never has business saver award space. Last time I got that for myself was in 2009!
No, Delta doesn’t release all of this space to partner airlines.
Business Saver Award Space — that’s hilarious
Seriously, is flying blue’s points better / worse than dl?
Less points, but less availability.
Aren’t the taxes higher as well. How do you get $10 taxes I see a minimum of $100 each way
So does this mean that there will be more possibility availability on United on both United and Aeroplan on the TLV Route?
newbie question
is there a simple way to see delta availability through flying blue
right now all i see are air france flights with stopovers and high fees
Unfortunately, no.
When I search Air France, all of the tickets have ~$90-130 fees
I posted a couple of sample dates for Air France in this post that do not have that.
Thanks, I was really hoping for winter break. Do you think 228K + $900 crazy for 4 tickets or justifiable?
56k in C+ available as well
Same price from LAX, connecting through JFK.
what is delta’s cancellation policy and air frances cancellation policy when using miles?
anyone find air france dates without the stopover? barely see any
you can check Dan’s chart for cancellation/changes policy (bookmark the page like I did :))

which airline is the best to use mileage for business class seats to Israel? United/Delta/AA/BA
Off topic.
Dan, do you have a post about best ways to fly to South America?
Not necessarily off post. Delta to TLV as described here. Then the forthcoming LATAM flight TLV–GRU 🙂
