Update: Flights between JFK-Los Angeles/San Francisco, Newark-San Jose/Los Angeles, and Philadelphia-Los Angeles from January through April are now pricing at 10K as well:
Originally posted on 10/31:
Alaska Airlines is charging just 10K miles each way to fly nonstop on Virgin America between Newark and Los Angeles.
For example a round-trip flight on Virgin America leaving Newark today and returning Thursday would cost $942 or 45K Virgin America points+$11.20:
However you can transfer 15,385 Virgin America miles into 20K Alaska miles, which would be enough to book those flights:
Officially Alaska only offers 10K awards on routes that are under 2,100 miles, such as Los Angeles-Chicago, but there are 10K awards between Newark and Los Angeles from now through April.
You can use the calendar search to easily find 10K dates:
I haven’t seen any 10K awards between JFK and Los Angeles, but it’s worth repeating that you should always check award pricing for coach and first class. I feel sorry for the person that books an award like this in standard coach instead of saver first!
You can transfer Virgin America points into Alaska miles at a 1:1.3 ratio, you can transfer 20K Starpoints into 25K Alaska miles, or you can buy Alaska miles.
For a limited time only, the Bank of America Alaska Airlines card offers 30K miles and a BOGO companion ticket for spending $1,000 in 3 months. You can view credit card offers by hovering over the “Credit Cards” tab. You can then view hotel cards “Hotel Credit Cards“ or you can choose to view “credit cards from all banks.“

Any way to transfer chase points or Delta miles to get this deal in time?
Those don’t transfer to Alaska.
Also, this has been around for at least a week, so I don’t think it is a limited time offer.
NO hat tip? Too simple?
Um, I most certainly did post a HT.
woops! sorry, thanks 🙂
You can can use virgin atlantic miles to book Delta anywhere within the US and Canada, including NYC – LAX, for 12500 miles & 5.60 each way, with the 30% amex transfer bonus it’s less then 10k per way.
And it’s now bookable online at virginatlantic.com with very good availability, including a lot of flights that cost 30k – 40k delta miles each way on delta.com.
(You can’t select both airports within the US, as these cities are not served by virgin atlantic, but you can menualy click on the pin and choose by country, or by typing in the arport code like this “(LAX)”).
For example, Nov 1 it’s 42000 delta miles or 12500 virginatlantic
amex MR points can have much value worth than that
Such as?
How much is the equivalent cost of 25k Alaska miles? And what’s a hat tip? Thanks as always for posting.
Whats their cancellation policy?
Does the BOGO work for award flights or only purchased?
can you get AF waived first year with BOA Alaska card?
Dan – can I transfer starwood to virgin at 20:25 and then from virgin to alaska at 1:1.3. Ill effectively end up with 20:32.25? Will transfers happen immediately?
Starwood stopped transferring to Virgin America a while ago.

is it better transferring to virgin america from a bank that offers that transfer option and then transfer to alaska? va to alaska gives you 30 percent more and spg only gives you 25 percent more? assuming you have plenty of points to spare in spg, amex chase ur, citi ty etc
Would BOGO work on a award intl ticket on as?
No

this works for SFO also.
Can Alaska flights be booked with Avios?
Yes, but you must call BA to book.
Ty!!
BA is telling me they cannot book as my flight is operated by Virgin America. Any way to transfer my Avios to Alaskan miles to book directly with them?
Do you get a free stopover on this one way?
dan would you be able to tell me when it would ever be possible to get virgin America points for these days? is it worthwhile crediting paid flights taken on va or partner airlines to va? don’t see how anyone has them these days to be able to transfer to Alaska.? unless you have leftover from the jetblue promo?
can i use amex points for this Im a newbie in this world thx
No.
PHL-LAX also pricing 10k
When did they start to ask 20k for some flights in coach?? used to be all for 12.5k. Also they now have much less first class seats for 25k than it used to be.
How is Virgin’s first class’s trans continental seats, is it lie flat?
