Earlier this year Cathay Pacific launched Tel Aviv service with 4 weekly flights from their hub in Hong Kong.
Apparently it’s a success as Cathay has announced that they will be adding flights next year with 6 weekly flights from March 25 and turning into daily service by October.
That’s reminiscent of when United launched San Francisco-Tel Aviv with 3 weekly flights and then quickly increased it to daily service.
It also bodes well for more service to Tel Aviv in the future. Because it’s high time that cities like Chicago and Singapore got some nonstop flights to the holy land.
El Al isn’t standing still though. They are adding 787 service to Hong Kong with direct aisle access from all business class seats starting on March 18th.
Cathay Pacific is famous for their wonderful first class where they offer the best bed comfort, seat comfort, and pajamas in the industry. It doesn’t offer walled-in suites or the hands-on service of Singapore and it doesn’t have onboard showers like Emirates or Etihad, but I don’t think any first class can compete with Cathay’s ultra-comfy seat and bed arrangement.
Unfortunately their Tel Aviv flights will continue to be operated by an A350-900 which only offers economy, premium economy, and business class.
I’d love to see Cathay Pacific first class service to Tel Aviv in the future.
If you want to redeem miles for travel on Cathay Pacific, the best bet is with Alaska Airlines.
You can use 50K Alaska miles for coach, 55K for premium economy, 62.5K for business, or 70K for first class to fly one way to or from North America and Tel Aviv via Hong Kong on Cathay Pacific. Best of all, you can get a free stopover in Hong Kong for as long as you want, even on a one-way ticket. There are no fuel surcharges.
You need to call Alaska to book Cathay Pacific flights, though you can search for award space on sites like BA.com and Qantas.com.
The 70K first class rate is a true bargain, though you’ll only be in first class between the US and Hong Kong. The Hong Kong to Tel Aviv flight will be in business class. But it’s well worth the 7.5K premium to sit in Cathay First for the flight over the Pacific. Both seats are lie-flat, but the first class seat and bed are far more spacious and comfortable. First class passengers can also reserve Hermolis kosher meals in the Hong Kong lounges.

Is LAX next?
LAX has 3-5 weekly flights from El Al.
Because of shabbos, 5 weekly flights is the closest to daily that they can offer.
I don’t see any other airlines adding LAX-TLV nonstop.
How many hours of trip time would it be NYC-TLV with them
I wouldn’t recommend that unless you’re going to take a stopover to explore Hong Kong, which is a great city.
But if you really wanted to do it without stopover you would be looking at something like:

I understand that you can transfer Amex rewards to Virgan, then Virgan to Alaska & 1:1.3? If the Virgan partnership is ending with Amex soon, is it a good idea to transfer lots of points?
70k for first class is a great deal to TLV, but unless you also want to go to HKG for vacation or business I don’t see how it’s worth spending over 30 hours on airplanes for that. The total travel time including connection time would be insane IMO.

This is great news. Only problem, specifically for the HKG-TLV is that CX hardly opens any J awards. I just in the last few days did a mega search (on the QF and BA sites just to be sure) – the grim result is that I couldn’t find one(!) J seat on this route (either direction) for the entire year ahead. You can definitely find availability from the US to HKG on them, but getting on the HKG-TLV is almost impossible.
That’s absolutely true.
BA shows availability but it is false. If you call AA to book they would say they cannot see any biz class sit (while BA shows sometimes 5 seats in biz!). You can check on Qantas and see zero availability for this route.

J class simply doesnt exist from hkg-tlv.
its a nice “idea” but practicly not going to happen.
Your best bet is to try last minute, same day or 1 day out.
