Have a feeling WOW is going to be a real bust!

So WOW is basically the Spirit Airlines of Iceland. It’s bad enough flying Spirit domestically with their terrible flight schedules and the fact you will be stranded for days if your flight is cancelled, but to travel internationally on that type of carrier? NO WAY.

Is there anyone who has flown with wow that has something good to say about them? The reviews online are pretty scary! Would love to hear some good news about them before booking!

I was fortunate not to be cancelled on so i can’t speak with certainty, but my impressions from everyone i dealt with at WOW being exceedingly friendly, I feel like they would’ve been far more accommodating than Spirit or Ryanair

Not that they can necessarily help you in every circumstance, but i don’t feel like they would’ve taken a “stop bothering me unless you’re dying” approach that you would get from most ULCC’s

Also, I could think of worse places to be “stranded” for a few days than Iceland 🙂

I had a good experience w/ WOW to Iceland in march. MY reservation at getting tix (even at 5:30 am when I had sukkot tix in my basket for 600 each) is that if it is delayed or cancelled then you cant leave for days after (both because of schedule and the chag). Also, yeshiva break. Weather could cancel a flight and then you would be stuck and probably trip cancelled. THey have only one gate at EWR. I thought the flight was fine. No entertainment, no food. Bring your own. If the price is right, do it.

They are pushing flights to Israel but are offering them on Jewish holydays. Doesn’t invoke much confidence. Rosh Hashana & Succos.
Extremely long flight with no food & entertainment. I did that on the horrible Transaero. Won’t do it again!

I’ve flown them without issue and enjoyed the flight to the extent one can enjoy a coach seat with no provided on board entertainment.

The only noteworthy differences I experienced compared to longhaul coach on a legacy US or EU carrier is no redeemable miles and lack of inflight entertainment.

Do the math on how much those things are worth to you, add a few dollars because you’ll want to bring your own food on board (most of us do that anyways) and if after that their price is still competitive relative to a legacy carrier, I would have no hesitation in flying them

I will never fly with them but I’m happy that this will likely lower prices on the NYC-TLV route in general.

@el: It depends on the fare 1 Arrival Mile = $1 spent on airfare. (Minus the 5% rebate of course)

I flew with Wow on a shorter flight from Israel to Europe and it was fine. The usual lower-priced airline fare, a bit more cramped, less features. But worth the money saved.

Thanks Dan! Got $509.96 rt Nov29-Dec07 EWR TLVwith the carry on, check luggage, and xl insurance, and priority boarding. Well worth the extra $105 each way instead of buying a la carte for $120 just for carry on and luggage. I’m not paying for seat assign for just one adult. I will do just like I do on Frontier and wait until a few hours before flight and check in with wow app. By waiting I get good seats because all the cheap seats sell first and better ones go last. Let’s see. Maybe I’ll sell some Kosher salami on board and make some money too!!!

for the barclay miles: 1 arrival mile = $1? I’m not sure I understand, If i have 50k miles, I know I don’t get $50,000 to spend on airfare, can you convert the 50k miles to a normal dollar amount I could spend on WOW?

1 mile=1 cent. so 50000 miles will be 500$ on any travel purchase.

It seems all the TLV-EWR dates you list are unavailable.

They charge 60 per bag per person per flights. One bag and a carry on is a few hundred dollars. Plus they charge 89 to choose your seat. Two people round trip I was looking at close to $1950

i have tried a few dates, and the return flight is about $300

how you got to $1950, carry on-bag is $50 each, check-in bag is $70, a seat is $89, so all add-on are are $418 for both ways, with the $298 is $716, AND NOT $975!!!!!
anyway the concept of low cost not to reserve a seat, and other airlines you also have to pay for additional bag, so really you can fly for $438, includes check-in one bag both ways

I paid a bit more for a one way plus baggage. I’m flying Newark to tov with a 19 hour stop over in Iceland, I’m flying on an American and Israeli passport do I need a visa to spend the day touring in Iceland?

And will a backpack be considered a personal item, it fits under the seat on domestic us flights.
