Today is officially the last day to change the airline selected for your AMEX airline fee credit.

-The Premier Rewards Gold Card from American Express  You can register for an airline here.

-The Platinum Card® from American Express and The Enhanced Business Platinum Card® from American Express OPEN each offer a $200 annual airline fee credit. You can register for an airline here.

I say officially as in the past AMEX has allowed people to change the airline at anytime, as long as they haven’t received any airline fee credit that calendar year. Just call or chat with AMEX to have it changed. Sometimes they will even allow changes if you have spent part of the airline fee credit.

The AMEX airline fee credit works on a calendar basis, so you can get the 2017 credit anytime in 2017 and the 2018 credit in your first cardmembership year. You need to register with a specific airline before spending.

Note that if you have a Business Platinum card the airline you choose will also be the airline that you can 50% of your points back when redeeming for coach travel. You may want to hold off on spending the $200 until the end of the year if you want to be able to change the airline more easily during the year.

You also get back 50% of your points on all airlines in business and first class redemptions without having to register for an airline, which will make for some great bargains when redeeming for premium class travel without any capacity controls like traditional award tickets.

Best of all you also earn miles for the ticket, and on premium class travel those miles will add up very quickly.

It typically takes less than a day to get the 50% points rebate.

You can read this post for sample airline fees that have worked for the $200 fee credit.

-The Premier Rewards Gold Card offers triple points on airfare and double points on restaurants. gas stations, and supermarkets in addition to the $100 annual airline fee credit. The card’s $195 annual fee is waived for the first year.

-The Platinum Card® from American Express offers $200 in annual airline fee credits, 5 points per dollar on airfare, Hilton, Marriott, and Starwood gold elite status, Centurion, Airspace, Delta, and Priority Pass lounge membership, lost item protection, Boingo WiFi, and allows you to add 3 cardmembers for $175/year ($58.33/each) that each get their own full lounge memberships and Global Entry+Pre-Check memberships.

-The Enhanced Business Platinum Card® from American Express OPEN offers $200 in annual airline fee credits, 10 annual GoGo in-flight WiFi passes, a 50% rebate on points used for coach tickets on the airline of your choice, a 50% rebate on points used for business/first class tickets on all airlines, and 50% bonus points on $5K+ purchases. It also offers Global Entry+Pre-Check membership, Hilton, Marriott, and Starwood gold elite status, Centurion, Airspace, Delta, and Priority Pass lounge membership, lost item protection, and Boingo WiFi. Plus it won’t count against your Chase 5/24 count. It will also turn all of your AMEX points into “hybrid points.”

Just Wondering

Hi, Thanks for all your great posts. Just wondering if the option is still available to purchase an Amazon gift card from United Website for the credit if that is the chosen airline. Thanks in advance!

David

Thanks!
Question:
If I book a ticket with my selected airline and then want to Change would I be able to then?
Or is it like I “used my credit”?

Any word on if Mileage Plus X still works with the fee credit? In 2016 it did, 2017 seems to not be working.
