Update: Turkish Airlines has just added the following new rule to the promo page:
“Only the segmented members who be informed by Turkish Airlines can benefit from this campaign. Usage rights within the campaign can not be transferred to third parties. Turkish Airlines reserves legal rights in case of violation of this rule.”
For a limited time you can still view the page and save a screenshot as it was yesterday here.
I tweeted Turkish Airlines yesterday to confirm the promo details.
You can tweet Turkish Airlines @TK_HelpDesk and @turkishairlines and you can file an official DoT complaint here about their changing of the offer’s terms without notice.

Is flying with Turkish Safe?
Can the ticket be purchased with hybrid poonts (chase / amex travel)
How is their business class?
@Deal Guy: oh my God Seriously
can the awarded miles be used by someone other than original passenger?
Dan, Can you use the points to purchase another ticket for the same flight?
@Anonymous:
I would book directly with Turkish for this promo.
@Moshe:
Very highly rated.
@luvtotravel:
Sure.
@Sam:
“Extra miles earned from this promotion will be posted to member’s account on 20th of January, 2017.”
@Deal Guy:
It’s safe only for those that bother to read the post.
All others: the “bad guys” will find you!
If I book a ticket for me and my wife on the same itinerary, will each one of us get enough miles for a round trip ticket?
-Only the flights issued during reservation or at the time of ticketing to the Miles&Smiles account will be considered valid.
So based on this clause a flight already booked during the promotion period but without a Miles&Smiles account number would NOT be eligible?
@Moshe:
I don’t see why not, but personally I’d book it on 2 separate tickets.
@E:
It’s unclear. I’d definitely credit to Turkish though and try to make the case afterward if the miles don’t post in January.
they charge full surcharges on their flights? if yes whats the big deal to get free award?
@israel11219:
I’m not sure what their fuel surcharge policy is on awards, but you can always use the miles on United or other Star Alliance carriers where there aren’t fuel surcharges.
Their fuel surcharge to Israel is $368, not the end of the world either.
where does it say that travel must be completed by 12/27?
@jr:
It doesn’t say it very clearly, but they told it to me here:
https://twitter.com/TK_HelpDesk/status/805454607858204672
Then again their social media team seems pretty clueless, but I used their conservative interpretation for this post.
They social media team also told someone that the bonus miles count towards elite status, but I really doubt that is true and as such left it out of this post.
@Dan: well i was planning on flying that week but returning to ny in january so I guess it wont work for me
@Dan:
What makes you think “hybrid” won’t work?
@jr:
Worth a shot.
@MosheD:
I didn’t say it wouldn’t.
I said I’d recommend booking direct and giving your Turkish mileage number at the time of booking. Better to take a conservative approach to somewhat vague promotions like this if possible.
What happens if Turkish raises their award chart a notch? Will we be stuck with almost enough Turkish Miles for an award ticket?
@Jay:
You can use them for domestic travel on United on cheaper awards, etc.
They will also give notice before a devaluation.
Where to click “Revert to old version
@Dan:
can you update the post if you receive any more evidence of the travel complete date?
how/where to sign up for this promotion?
(cannot find any “sign up” link on the promotion page)
@Anonymous:
Bottom middle of screen.
@jr:
I doubt there will be any more clarification.
@kw:
There is no signup link, it’s automatic.
So do I need to be back from Israel by the 27th?
@Anonymous: it shows as a popup on the side or at the bottom of the page, but only if you visit from a location that forces you to their new site. I found that when I am browsing from a US IP address, I get their new website, but when visiting from Israel I get the old version.
Is Turkish saver award space more plentiful for miles & smiles?
1. Is this only for flights to/ from NY or European destinations as well?
2. Will this work on a flight taken on November 21? or only future flights?
Dan, will you personally take advantage of this promo?
Hey Dan,
I have tweeted tkhelpdesk (very not helpful), I called and spoke to 4 agents from turkish, no one heard much of these award tickets. I finally spoke to sadsid at turkish airlines who told me it has to be booked by dec 27, but I am not too confident that he knew what he was talking about… Does anyone have more information about this program?
Just want to say this is an amazing find. You must be part gopher.
Can anyone recommend any apps for frequent flyers?
-The related promotion will be applied only for Turkish Airlines scheduled flights. Promotion is not permitted on Turkish Airlines codeshare flights and Star Alliance member airline flights
Does it mean that if part of the flight Operated by other Airlines I would not qualify for this promotion?
@Shmulie:
Yes.
@dave:
1. Yes.
2. If you fulfilled the terms, yes.
@Sam:
Nope.
@HeavenlyJane:
LOL
@Anonymous:
Correct.
I spoke to 12/4/2016 7:22 pm EST Suna agent sign is S2 (i called +90 850 333 0 849) she said that as long as the flight is booked before 12/27, and the first leg of the flight is before 12/27, you are eligible (as long as this is your first flight on turkish.
The award will be 64,000 points (instead of the 12k normally issued for this flight), which does NOT have to be redeemed on the same flight.
One will still have to pay the taxes (368$ to israel)
Thanks Dan just booked! Do I have to use the miles by December 27? I really appreciate it
Thanks a million Dan really appreciate it
I flew with them a while ago does that mean I don’t get the 64k points?
@sgf:
Cool.
If you book travel on United you shouldn’t have to pay that fuel surcharge.
@Dan is the man!!:
You don’t get the miles until January. They don’t expire for 3-4 years.
@Dan da man!:
YW!
@DD rocks:
You earn the miles if you fall within the terms of the promo.
Just for the record, currently the kosher food on Turkish Air from the States and Istanbul, even in business, is atrocious. I can’t say from Tel Aviv, because they forgot my meal! Usually from Tel Aviv it is much better
Do these miles qualify for status? I am currently Gold Elite (Already have 25K for renewal renewal, would this push me up to Elite Plus (80k)?
Hi,
The first line on the rules was
“This campaign is customized for specific group of members”
When I asked on twitter who is eligible for this promotion, did not get any reply yet.
But know when I checked the promotion link, they changed the first line and it says:
“Only the segmented members who be informed by Turkish Airlines can benefit from this campaign. Usage rights within the campaign can not be transferred to third parties. Turkish Airlines reserves legal rights in case of violation of this rule.
The ambiguous wording suggests this offer might only apply to first time flyers, any comments?
“Only the segmented members who be informed by Turkish Airlines can benefit from this campaign.”
@statiker72:
@kachnik:
They just added that line to the promo today.
Dan, if I ordered tickets yesterday, will it still be honored? If not, what can I do now about this?
@Moshe:
Unclear.
I wrote what you should do in the post update.
If you don’t want to fight it then you should cancel your tickets.
@Seriously: I wouldn’t fly Turkish for free.
From the original post – “Turkish Airlines has the right to change terms and conditions of the promotion.”
@serious that’s not true you would
I tweeted Turkish Airlines yesterday to confirm the promo details.
You can tweet Turkish Airlines @TK_HelpDesk and @turkishairlines and you can file an official DoT complaint here about their changing of the offer’s terms without notice.
does this mean no reward for free trip?
what does segmented mean?
Doing some research, it doesn’t look like these miles are too usable.
I’m seeing that you might need to go to a ticket office to have a reward ticket issued, and that they charge the tax based off of full fare (7.5% of Y class or J etc), even for UA flights.
just spoke to turkish air
at
1-800 874 8875
they reassured me if I book from at to tlv and leave before 27 of Dec they will award enough miles for free trip to tlv
@shai – you’re violating one of Dan’s golden rules…trusting the assurances of a phone rep not usually a good idea.
@Deal Guy: Safest in the Europe
Is this deal still active? How do I use it?
@gfx: @gfx:
Hi @Dan i know im late but now i have some time to take care of it, so basically I booked this ticket the day it was posted paid in full wasn’t cheap but knowing I’ll get 64k miles I did it well now that this happened am I screwed or is there a way I can still get it if yes how? Thanks in advance u da man I’d be really really happy if I can get somthing
Dan or anyone – do you have a screenshot of this promotion captured? If so please email to karczag@hotmail.com (the cached links seem to no longer work). Thanks!
I know this is late, does anyone have a copy of the original screen shot?
