Starwood Airline Miles Transfer Linky
It’s fascinating that Starwood is still actively recruiting partners despite their merger with Marriott. Hopefully that’s a good sign…
-LifeMiles is the Star Alliance program run by Avianca/TACA. Miles don’t expire as long as there is activity every 24 months.
-You can book partner travel online and one-way awards are allowed at half the rate of round-trip awards.
-They have a good Star Alliance award chart and don’t charge any fuel surcharges.
-Beware that their call center customer service is notoriously poor.
-Most of the exciting Lifemiles tricks that I talked about in DansDeals seminars in the past are dead.
Curious about the 36 Starwood transfer options and ratios? Here they are!
With so many different airlines to transfer to it’s just a matter of figuring out which one has the lowest rates to where you want to go. I’ve separated them by alliance so you can know which airlines are partners and will therefore let you book award travel on partner airlines. Of course airlines also have lots of non-alliance partners, but by definition they are partners with all airlines in the same alliance.
In parenthesis you can see if American Express Membership Rewards (MR), Chase Ultimate Rewards (UR), or Citibank Thank You (TY) points transfers to the airline as well.

Points can also transfer to Amtrak at a 1:1 ratio.
You can view the expiration policies for each transfer program here. Remember that points can only transfer from Starwood to an airline, they can never transfer from an airline to Starwood.
I don’t recommend using the SPG Flights or the SPG Merchandise/Gift Card programs as the value per point is way too low.

Great, I see that the partner award chart lists awards to Palestine. Anyone know which airport in Palestine there is scheduled international service to? Maybe you can stop over in Israel on the way?
Does anyone know if one can downgrade a SPG card to another card (doesn’t have to be in spg family)
Opinions requested…
Which airline is best for coach seats from nyc to lax… Not in terms of price but comfort, technology, and other odds and ends.
@y h yes you can downgrade after a year
@Josh:
Probably Virgin America. And you can transfer Starwood points to Virgin America miles, and they instantly become worth 2.2 cents each towards all Virgin America flights, no blackout dates.
@dov bennish: Which card can you downgrade to? When I asked, they said you cant
@Hershel: Airport code GZA. Dan says they have a great lounge there!
