American Express is now offering a year of Amazon Prime when signing up and meeting the spend requirement for the following cards:

-The Amex EveryDay Credit Card from American Express: Get 10K Membership Rewards points plus 1 year of Amazon Prime for spending $1,000 within 3 months.

-The Amex EveryDay Preferred Credit Card from American Express Get 15K Membership Rewards points plus 1 year of Amazon Prime for spending $1,000 within 3 months.

Blue Cash Everyday® Card from American Express Get $50 cash back plus 1 year of Amazon Prime for spending $1,000 within 3 months.

-Blue Cash Preferred® Card from American Express Get $100 cash back plus 1 year of Amazon Prime for spending $1,000 within 3 months.

Once you complete the spend requirement you will get the regular signup bonus and a code via email for a year of Amazon Prime, a $99 value.
If you already have Amazon Prime the code will extend your Prime membership by a year.

All 4 cards offer 0% intro APR on purchases and balance transfers for 15 months. After that, your APR will be a variable rate, currently 12.99% to 21.99%, based on your creditworthiness and other factors.

All 4 cards also offer additional user cards with no annual fee.  Each additional user card that you have qualifies for $30 of spending on Small Business Saturday.

AMEX EveryDay Preferred:

I recently picked up the EveryDay Preferred card and love it. It’s an awesome card.
Both the EveryDay and the EveryDay Preferred card offer full Membership Rewards access, which means the ability to transfer points to lots of airlines programs.

The EveryDay Preferred card offers 3 points per dollar on up to $6,000 per year at grocery stores, and 2 points per dollar on gas and Uber.
But the killer aspect of the EveryDay Preferred is the whopping 50% bonus if you make 30 transactions per billing cycle.  That bumps up the 3 points categories to 4.5 points, the 2 point categories to 3 points, and everything else to 1.5 points per dollar spent.

Note that if you return an item it doesn’t subtract the original transaction.

The EveryDay Preferred card has a $95 annual fee, but that’s low considering it’s the only card that gives 1.5 real airline miles per dollar everywhere. The only other card that does that is the United Club card which costs $395 per year.

AMEX EveryDay:

The EveryDay card is a no annual fee card.  It offers 2 points per dollar on groceries and Uber and a 20% point bonus for making 20 transactions per month.

Those earnings are probably outclassed by the Starwood Preferred Guest® Credit Card from American Express which earns an effective 1.25 miles per dollar, but unlike the Starwood card the Everyday card has no annual fee, doesn’t require transfers in 20K increments to get the bonus, and points generally transfer instantly.

The unique thing about the Everyday card is that it’s the only no-annual fee card that can transfer points into real airline miles.

Blue Cash/Blue Card Preferred:
Blue Cash Preferred earns 6% cash back on groceries (up to $6,000 per year), 3% cash back on gas and department stores, 1% Cash Back on other purchases.

Blue Cash Everyday earns 3% cash back on groceries (up to $6,000 per year), 2% cash back on gas and department stores, 1% Cash Back on other purchases.

Amazon Prime offers free 2 day shipping, unlimited music streaming, free Prime Instant Video, early access for Amazon Lightning Deals and MyHabit.com, access to over over 500,000 free eBooks, and more. Join Amazon Mom with Prime (no extra cost) to get 20% off diapers and 15% off baby items on your registry.

Would you 2bm this with anything and what’s the chance of a 3bm with Amex. I’ve pulled it off with chase but is it worth it with Amex

Anon

So how do I choose between blue cash preferred and everyday preferred?

Dan

@Anonymous:
3BM is very easy with AMEX. Easier than Chase.
Do you have a Starwood, Premier Gold or Platinum?
http://www.dansdeals.com/go/Starwood5/
http://www.dansdeals.com/go/PremierRewardsGold5/
http://www.dansdeals.com/go/Platinum5/

@Anon:
Depends if you want cash or miles.

mg

what are the spend requirements?

amex

is this only for new applications?

Jennifer

I’m confused. What minimum spend do you have to reach to get the free Amazon prime? Is this only if you sign up for a new card? So my existing cards wouldn’t be eligible?

ranhan429

Nice post Dan! Love the 0.50$ idea, hope amex won’t flag for abuse though like chase did with old freedom.

Any idea if I opened the Amex Everyday Non-preferred if they’ll give me free prime? Can I open the preferred if I’ve got the non-preferred already?

Anonymous

I have a premier gold. I’ve been told that I can’t get a platinum bonus then. Is that true. I do have Spg business and consumer and gold delta.

thingywingy

In a nutshell the even though the Blue Cash Preferred get more points, those points are not part of the MR program.

Wasn’t Amex offering the BCP with 1st year fee waived?
Does getting the EDP extend the points I earned on my Platinum card I even after I close it?

Mike

Would you be “disqualified” from getting the Amazon Prime code if you currently have an AMEX card?

acer

is the only difference btwn the Blue cash preferred and the EveryDay preferred the 50% bonus?

Anonymous

how many pulls with a 3bm?

Dan

@mg:
Click on the card links for the full details.

@amex:
Good question. If you have had one of these cards in the past and apply now please let us know what happens!

@Jennifer:
The same minimum spend as is needed for the signup bonus on each of these cards.

This won’t work for existing cards.

@ranhan429:
Only people who hit the freedom for hundreds and hundreds of small transactions ran into issues.

I don’t think less than 30 transactions per month will bother anyone.

The point is they want to use your card often and not just forget about it.

@thingywingy:
Dont think BCP is free anywhere.

Everyday cards will keep all your points active even after you cancel a plat or gold card.

@Mike:
If you already had that card you mean?

@acer:
No.
BCP is a cash back card.
EDP is a mileage card.

@Anonymous:
Typically 1.

Timmy

I would only get the amazon prime once I meet the spend requirement ?

Anonymous

Any recent success in getting AF waived on the Everyday Preferred card(maybe spending a lot)

Dan why not just use $200 visa gift cards for everyday spending from staples and getting 5 points per dollar instead of 3 or 4.5! I know there is a purchase fee for these 200 visa gift cards but there are lot of promotions/rebates that offset that

bluecash-old

I still have the blue cash from back in the day and they keep trying to get me to change over to the new blue…wonder if it’s worth it and if I get the amazon prime if i move.

Anyone had the blue cash and switched to blue cash everyday?

Jeff

Does anyone have the JetBlue Amex card? I never see it posted here

Dan

@Timmy:
Correct.

@Anonymous:
You can, but many people dont want that hassle or don’t have an an ink card or max out the $50k for 5x on ink regardless.

@bluecash-old:
Try for both?

@Jeff:
Because it stinks.

There’s no spending category where that card beats other cards due to the relatively low value of their points and lack of bonus categories.
And the signup bonus isn’t anything special either.

Mike

@Dan, I meant if you had any AMEX in the past. Not these specific ones. Because of the AMEX rule about one bonus per lifetime

Sfuzzi

If I apply for a receive two of these cards will I get two
Years of amazon prime?

zow

I think I messed up.
I recently applied for and received the “old” Blue Cash card (with the < CASH on upper right). I thought this card was 6% cash back, but it's only AFTER spending $6,000. And, I am hearing (on DDF and elsewhere) that people are having this card shut down, possibly for excessive use. So…
Should I try to have it switched over to EDP or BCP?
Thanks.

Dan

@Mike:
The AMEX rule is one bonus per card
type per lifetime.

So having other cards is no issue at all.

@Sfuzzi:
Yes.

@zow:
Apply for a new card and have it approved by closing the old one if needed.

zow

Dan, thanks, you’re the man.

Sfuzzi

If you hAve any amex card looks like u do not qualify
New amex customers only I guess

From the t&c

If we identify you as currently having an American Express® Card account, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer. This offer is also not available to applicants who have or have had this product.

thingywingy

Is there an issue extending Amazon Prime on a student account? I think I remeber that from the prime benefit that comes with the other cards.(If I remember correctly, with the other cards it only works on a new prime account; not to extend an existing prime account).

Jason

When is the deadline?

Anonymous

How many additional users can I add for free regarding the everyday preferred card?

AM

If I got an Everyday Card will they match me to this offer? Anybody have any ideas? Don’t see this mentioned in the post or in the comments.

Anonymous

@Dan:

how come then when I applied for delta amex gold and platinum on same day i got 2 pulls?

Mike

@Dan thanks

Dud

Thanks! i was about to get hit with the $175 fee for my wife’s premier rewards gold card, and had too many points earned and not used to just cancel it.

Applied for the Everyday card, got approved, (called them and they) linked the rewards accounts, and will now close the premier rewards gold.

Thanks again!!

mrrickva

Just as a matter of clarification, the Everyday (plain) card does keep your MR points active and they are transferrable just as with the preferred. When I was looking for a free way to keep the points in the MR program, I did (and saved) a chat session where the rep told me so. Since then I have transferred points into BA Avios almost instantly.

RB

My wife got the Amex everyday 2 months ago.
Any chance she will get the Amazon Prime if she calls them ?

mrrickva

@Mike:
The once per lifetime pertains to Personal Cards. From the Business Platinum terms: “Welcome bonus offer not available to applicants who have or have had this product within the last 12 months”

SoWhat

Thoughts re spg vs every day preferred? Seems like spg is now second best?

JJ

Dan, I already have Delta platinum and PRG, prefer MR points/miles rather than cash. What other amex cards should i apply with 3BM? Is 15k bonus points the largest so far that Everyday Preferred have offered? And if I’ve received MR signup bonus with PRG, can I still get signup bonus with EDP and Blue as well? TIA!

hvaces42

Dont know if Amex will approve me for more cards att. Theyre giving me hard time on business approval. Does it make sense to try a 3bm for both preferred cards and the Everyday card and if I get denied then offer to sacrifice my Delta Gold CL?

ccz

@Dan: what are your General thoughts on the Everyday preferred v Amex Premier Gold?
Any feature besides 3x points for flights that Gold has?

Shimon

I was approved for ED last week, doesn’t received it yet. If I’m eligible for Free Amazon Prime how can I get it?

Mendel

Does the number of transaction go by each user separately or by all users combined?

Mac

PREPARING FOR SBS
I did 5bm (amex every,blue cash,sky,hilton,blue)with amex and had a hard time.
By the end was only approved for 2 cards and i believe its gonna be to credit pulls
What abt adding au for same person afew times:)

Dan's the Man

I believe the 50 cent Amazon gift cards would need to be made on separate dates in order to count towards the 20/30 transaction requirement.

Thanks Dan

@dan , Do you recommend AMEX EveryDay Preferred over the Starwood card?

Barak Turovsky

@dan: will Prime offer apply to Blue Cash Preferred that i received last year (August)?

Thanks!

Thingywingy

Any clue if a bonus MR to BA is coming soon?

Sam

Dan,

What type of credit score/history do I need for the Amex Blue Cash Preferred? Do you recommend buying visa gift cards in supermarkets to get back 6%?

Barry

anyone know how Costco is coded – supermarket? then this card would be good. our local kosher supermarket doesn’t take AMEX

Welder

Sounds like a great deal! Thanks!

How long is this offer valid? I just got declined for the Ink Plus due to too many recent credit inquires and too many recent new accounts. Do you think it’s worth going for this?

Avi

I got approved last week for the Everyday Preferred, any hope for a bonus match?

Pls answer

@dan amex rep. just told me if i get both cards i will only get one prime yr.
is that correct???

Al

Why is this a good deal?
Until now they were offering $100 back signup offer on bce …?

Dan

@Sfuzzi:
That’s the general terms for the point bonus.

I don’t think anyone can tell you about Prime until they try it.

@thingywingy:
It works for extending any account, however if you are in middle of a free student trial then the free year starts from when you redeem the code.

However you can just wait until your Student trial ends to redeem the code.

@Jason:
Unknown.
Only deadline I see is that the Prime code must be redeemed by 08/31/15.

@Anonymous:
Should be 99 per card.

@AM:
AMEX doesn’t match offers in general.

@Anonymous:
These things are always YMMV.
But most of the time it’s 1.

@Dud:
Congrats!

@mrrickva:
Yup, that’s what I wrote in the post.

@mllechazzer:
Where did you see a limit of 5?

@SoWhat:
They both have pluses and minuses.

EDP earns more points but also costs more per year.

SPG has more airline partners and can be used for hotels at a better rate but it earns fewer points per dollar and takes more time to transfer to airlines.

@JJ:
15K is the only signup offers I’ve seen for EDP until now, so the 15K+Prime offer is the best year.

You can get the bonus for Blue and EDP even if you have the PRG card.

@hvaces42:
Makes sense.

And generally speaking business cards ae harder to get approval for.

@ccz:
PRG is good only if you spend a ton on airfare.
Otherwise its $175 fee is hard to justify considering the EDP earns far more points for most purchases for just $95/year.

@Shimon:
Nope.

@Mendel:
Combined.

@Mac:
You can add the same person, including the primary cardholder, more than once.

@Dan’s the Man:
False.

@Thanks Dan:
Depends on the situation.

@Barak Turovsky:
No.

@Thingywingy:
None.

@Sam:
Should be an easier card to get.
No reason you can’t do that.

@Barry:
Warehouse.

@Welder:
I don’t know how long this offer will be around for.

@Avi:
Unlikely but let us know.

@Pls answer:
If you get the signup bonus for both I don’t see why you wouldn’t get the code for both as well.

@Al:
I’m not sure what it was, but just Prime alone is worth $99.
The Everyday and Everyday Preferred offers were definitely 10K and 15K respectively, so the Prime offer is just sweetening the pot.

amazon mom

Can I get amazon mom membership or just prime?

Dan

@amazon mom:
You can get either.

high end hobo

Thanks for the post. Stam, now that AA posted some details about the dividend/AAdvantage merger, can you make a post with your thoughts on it? Specifically if you feel a devaluation is coming and people should spend their miles? Also any idea when I can get the usair barclays card until?

Lani

I just got the amex blue everyday last week. Anyone know if the amazon prime credit was active then? If not, would amex give it to me now?

AJ

@Dan: In the post, it sounds like you can get Prime AND Mom (free). But here you wrote “either”. Which is it? both or either? Thanks!

Shimon

Since we talked here about SPG vs. AMEX is it make sense to transfer Amex miles to SPG and then SPG to Airlines?

hvaces42

3bm went horribly wrong. Couldnt get the 3rd browser to submit at the same time as the others so it effectively became a 2bm for both preferred cards. one didnt even hit and the other is on my applications page as “Cancelled” anyone know what that means? The form letter says that I have too many apps and approvals within a short period of time.

milechazzer

@Dan:

Sorry, I meant a limit of 4 personal credit cards (at least that’s what they’ve told me whey I tried to open more than that).

nc

Do you know when this offer will end?

s jacobs

I ALready had these cards and canceled them . will i qualify for these boonuses?
?

Sam

@nc:

I had a a secure chat with a representative on the Amex site and he said that this offer will last a few months.

Dave

Are you sure the Amex EveryDay card qualifies for Amazon Prime and not just the EveryDay Preferred? The AMEX site doesn’t show this for the regaular EveryDay card. Has anyone had success getting this Amazon promo applied after the fact if they already have the card?

Mplace

A shame, I opened the (free) cards a month ago to take advantage of sbs
I take it I lose out on the prime.. 🙁
🙁

Mplace

I got the 20 mark by going into Giants by self checkout, and splitting the transaction into small charges $1.00… But the machine only allowed 5 swipes per perches, so when I hit #6 I need the manager to come and authorize it.. So I stopped after 7..
And then brought a nother item, and did the same..
But it’s only worth it, if you have some big transactions on it..
I hade a couple iPhone bought on that card…

Dan

@Lani:
It was not and they probably won’t.

@AJ:
Mom is free added benefits for Prime members who are parents.

@Shimon:
No.

@s jacobs:
You have had the new Everyday cards and canceled them already?

@Dave:
The link in the post shows it for both.

@Mplace:
Amazon seems easier, no?

thingywingy

Can you give the free prime to someone else?

hvaces42

@Dan
Applied for both preferred cards (everyday and blue cash) as 2 BM (Chrome and Opera). Shows both applications as cancelled. Called (Indian) reconsideration and they tell me Blue is processing and everyday was cancelled as duplicate by mistake. They couldnt revive Everyday app because i have too many Amex cards! Max is 4 personal cards per person. HUCA (Indian recon) and they tell me that both cancelled apps show as such because both were duplicates but was approved for both cards.

I’m totally confused. Is there a limit on personal cards? Do I HUCA again?

JJ

@hvaces42: how many other Amex personal cards you already have? so did the 2 you just applied get approved by 2nd call?

@Dan: does amex bluebird count as personal card? I have delta platinum, PRG, bluebird. was going to apply for EDP and blue as hvaces42 did….so if bluebird counts as my 3rd personal card, and limit is 4…then i might get shot down too…?

JJ

cont’d to post 71…..ohhh and i have macy’s amex too!! does this count as well? :-\

hvaces42

@JJ posted the letter in Amex Reconsideration forum. I have 2 personal credit Delta Gold and SPG. Also have 2 charge, Platinum and PRG. I have no clue if it was approved or not. The letter is unclear. Wow…I didnt even consider BB. I just got my BB in the mail and havent activated. Dont want to either as I want RedCard

Dan

@thingywingy:
It’s just a code, I don’t see why not.

@hvaces42:
Odd.
Even when I go over 4, they don’t get cancelled. They let me close an older card to get a new one approved.

@JJ:
Bluebird/Serve/REDcard don’t count.

Only credit cards count, so PRG doesn’t count either. You only have 2 credit cards.

@JJ:
That does not count either as it’s not issued by AMEX bank.

hvaces42

@Dan did u see letter in forum? Any suggestions?

Yakov

All my groceries, gas and Costco go through Blue Cash Preferred for many years. I called them, mentioned this new promo for new customers, asked nicely, and they gave me back equivalent of two years of annual fees for being a valued existing customer. Took some talking and persuasion.

David

Also for the gold busniess

YitzyS

Do you know which card I should try for if I don’t have a great credit score? And do they all pull from Experian? (in NJ) Thanks!

Bamboo

Does the Amazon prime code from amex expire? Can I wait a few months to use it?

Dan

@YitzyS:
http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/53213

@Bamboo:
Should be good until July, so that’s not a problem.
If you apply it now it should just extend your membership.

amazon

can prime membership be exchanged to an amazon GC?
Dont need prime.
TIA

TryingPoints

What if I already have Prime? Can I get a refund for the unused portion of the year from Amazon and then use my Amex free Prime, or will it perhaps extend my membership by a year?

Dan

@amazon:
You can sell it on DDF.

@TryingPoints:
Yes, Amazon can prorate your paid prime.

Ari

Any idea if I can use 2 Amazon Prime codes and get free prime for 2 years?

ari

how do I apply? its my first time and I don’t have an account with them? It wants me to sign into an account

Dan

@Ari:
Good question, has anyone else tried that yet?

@ari:
Try clicking on the link from another browser.

Welder

Got approved for Everyday Preferred, thanks!

Also, I did a MBM and it wasn’t helpful (same issue came up last time I tried it with Amex too). Only one app went through, and the other was put in a forced hold for a few days as a precaution due to the close proximity of the applications.

Dan

@Welder:
Can still work that way, just call back in a few days.

JM

Is that 2:59pm today or tomorrow? Thanks for the clarification.

Dan

@JM:
Today.

Berel

Dan Are u sure that the changes won’t be for the better? An enhanced sign up bonus?

dovid

Dan, I did a 3bm and called recon and so far got one approved. Im gonna try for another but they said that the other two will be reviewed over the next 3-5 bus days. Should I withdraw an application if I cant get anymore? Will it for sure result in another pull if they let it sit for a few days?

Also, with the prime membership, if I have a student account for years that has never been changed to a regular prime account (even though I’m no longer a student), would such a code affect my account and possibly change it to a regular prime account?

matovu

Approved for the everyday preferred for the DF

amexholder

From offer terms: “If we identify you as currently having an American Express® Card account, you may not be eligible for this welcome bonus offer. This offer is also not available to applicants who have or have had this product.” Does this mean if I have *any* amex card then I’m not eligible for the welcome bonus?

Daniel

Hi Dan! Just got approved for the everyday through your link! Can I manufacture the $1,000 spend for the card using my serve card? Thanks!

JimJam

Hey Dan,

So I did a 3BM for an SPG, a Platinum and a Everyday Preferred (all from your links). I got approved for the SPG and Platinum instantly, on the every preferred the Amex page gave me an error and I had to reload and resubmit. They gave me some message to call them up and I did but she told me they can’t approve me for the card right now I need to wait 5 days for the application to be decisioned.

What are the odds they will approve me? Should I HUCA? Will they do another pull?

happy

Dan why did you suggest until 259 what was significant about that time

NMN

I still see the prime offer..

Mendel

Do any of these cards come with Premium Roadside Assistance? Or is that only on the charge cards?

JJJ

Dan, i was reading the T&C of amex everyday card and saw this paragraph below. so we will have to pay to transfer MR points to “US airlines”?? i have made transfer to krisflyer before and no charges whatsoever. can you clarify what this means of does anybody else know? TIA!!

Membership Rewards® Program – Transfer Points
Enrollment in a participating Frequent Flyer or Frequent Guest program is required. Airline tickets and guest rooms are subject to availability. For each conversion of points into the Frequent Flyer program of a U.S. airline, a fee of $0.0006 per point, with a maximum fee of $99, will be charged to your Card account. We charge this fee to offset the federal excise tax we must pay on such conversions. The fee may be more or less than the actual amount of the excise tax we pay on any individual conversion. We may offer you the option to redeem points to pay this fee.
