Update: Starwood stays classy!
Here is their offer to me that came without any prompting of my own for my upcoming Cash and Points stays (4,000 points + $60) at the Sheraton Jerusalem:
We are following up our email dated June 19th regarding your award booking at the Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza. Thank you for your patience.
We see that you are currently holding multiple upcoming reservations, the next one being confirmation number xxxxxxxx on xx/xx/2009 for 4 nights. As you are already aware, this hotel will cease its association with the Sheraton brand and so will no longer honor free night award reservations. We are sorry for any inconvenience this development may have caused and are pleased that we can now offer a new option to our members:
a) The Mamilla Hotel in Jerusalem (www.mamillahotel.com) has agreed that it will accept the transfer of award reservations and guarantee Studio rooms (two persons) only, subject to availability. Please be aware that the hotel will not provide suites to members whose awards were previously redeemed for a suite. The Mamilla Hotel is not a Starwood property and therefore you will not earn Starpoints for any charges at this hotel and will not receive your regular amenities or benefits. The good news is that if we are able to move your reservations, you will not need to increase the number of Starpoints that were used for your booking at the Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza. If you would like to transfer your reservation to the Mamilla Hotel, please respond immediately to this email to customercare@starwoodhotels.com. We will attempt to move as many bookings as the Mamilla Hotel can accommodate; however if there is insufficient space to accommodate your reservations, you would either have to remain at the former Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza at a paid rate or else look for other alternatives. We will handle the moves in chronological order, starting with July reservations. Please note that the Mamilla Hotel will only accept the transfer of award bookings; any paid bookings at the Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza will remain there.
b) If we cannot move your reservation or you decide to stay at the former Sheraton Jerusalem Plaza, then you will need to cancel your award reservations and re-book directly with the hotel the prevailing rate by June 30, 2009. You may contact the hotel by calling 97226298666 or email at sheraton.jerusalem@sheraton.com. Starwood will not pay for your reservations but we will return the Starpoints used for your award to your account and we will deposit 10,000 Starpoints as a gesture of goodwill. Please remember that you will not earn Starpoints for any charges at this hotel and that you will not be given your usual Starwood Preferred Guest amenities or benefits.
c) If you decide to cancel your reservation altogether, please respond to this email at customercare@starwoodhotels.com with that decision and we will assist you with the cancellation and return of your Starpoints. We will also deposit 10,000 points into your account as a gesture of goodwill.
We appreciate your continued patronage of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide. We have made all reasonable attempts to take care of you and we are very pleased that the Mamilla Hotel has offered to take on reservations that can be moved.
We look forward to hearing from you so we may understand your decision and take care of any new arrangements as quickly as possible. Please keep in mind that we will start with members holding bookings for July.
Sincerely,
Helen Horsham-Bertels

According to this article (hebrew only) Starwood is giving the boot to the:
-Sheraton Eilat
-Sheraton Jerusalem.
-Sheraton Moriah Tel Aviv
-Sheraton Tiberias
as of 06/30 for “failing to maintain the global standards of the Sheraton brand.”
This leaves only 4 Starwood hotels in Israel, the
-Le Meridian Dead Sea
-Le Meridian Eilat
-Sheraton City Towers Ramat Gan.
-Sheraton Tel Aviv
Hopefully we’ll see better hotels come under the Starwood brand in Israel…”Starwood is actively looking for new opportunities for all nine Starwood brands in Israel.”
As of now you are still able to book all of the above hotels on spg.com for dates after 06/30 but there’s no telling how much longer that will last.
I’m guessing this may have a good demographic of people start using their Starpoints for mileage transfers instead of hotel redemptions…

Dan, do you think they will honor reservations made now for later dates on spg points?
wow . wat r all the bochruim gonna do ??lol
Brutal !!!!
Changes my summer plans
@Brutal !!!!:
Why?
Go book what you need now!
if the reservations are already booked will they honor them?
@Dan/Ctownbochur:
Don’t think it’s gonna help to book now.
I spoke to the reservations office today at the Sheraton Jerusalem & they said that they haven’t been notified officially & they “assume” that previous reservations will honored.
What about the Haifa-Meridian?
Sheraton is dropping its name from four hotels- plaza jerusalem, tiberias, eilat, and moriah tel aviv.
le meridian haifa will no longer accept Starwoods too.
i guess the remaining hotels will be : le meriadian dead sea, LM eilat, and sheraton city towers and sheraton tel aviv
what happens to all the costomers that booked rooms in these hotels in israel?
now in english,

I wonder if starwood booted them, or if they booted starwood and the official line was starwood booted them. (Too many jews taking advantage of the starwood system – israelis may not have liked that. Just wondering…
as per spg – As far as I know, this hotel will be leaving Starwood as of June 30th. I anticipate that all paid reservations will be honored, but no stay/night credit or other SPG benefits will be honored. I anticipate that any award reservations will not be honored. If that is the case, then SPG will be notifying members soon that they will need to stay elsewhere or change their stay to a paid rate at this hotel. Unfortunately, there will be no option to use Starpoints should that be the case.
word I got today is Boymelgreen (the owner) never paid *W any of the mgmt fees he owes them for the past 1 1/2 yrs since he purchased all 4 Hotels!!!
I dont blame *W and wonder why they waited so long to give them the Boot!
also this was posted on FlyerTalk on May 27th way before it was on here. It would be nice if when posting the person credit the proper source where they found out about what ever it is they are posting about
Credit was given in the post to the forum post where I origin ally saw the news and to the article the poster cited,
There have been many cases of hotels honoring Starpoint reservations even after leaving the Starwood program so we’ll have to wait and see what happens in this case. At this point you can still make Starpoint reservations for after 06/30.
Dan yes a person can make a $$ res and it will be honored but no SPG benefits will be forthcoming nor Stay Credit or Pts earned. i dont believe that a person can still make a free stay res
I wouldnt hold my breathe on any of Boymelgreens Hotel still honoring any free stay res as they wont get any $$ out of *W with what they owe *W, especially for the forth coming Yom Tovim
ALL free stays have already been removed and I highly doubt that *W will give anyone a res anywhere else, especially as they have given at least 30 days notice and most people will be able to make other arrangements although it wont be free nights.
@steve:
“i dont believe that a person can still make a free stay res”
Wrong.
“ALL free stays have already been removed”
Wrong.
Did you even try making a free stay? It is still bookable, and none of my reservations have been canceled.
I used cash and points for my stays as I hope those will have a greater chance of being honored.
yes my award stay still shows on SPG but the confirmation # is gone and I cant pull the res up.
same with 2 friends and their res
Another friend called yesterday for an award stay after Sept and was told, no can do even for 11k for an Upgraded free stay when Classic rooms arent available
I take it that your res for C&P is before 7/1, what is not understanding is why is SPG still allowing res to be made for after 7/1 when These Hotels wont be apart of SPG any longer. I took it that they cant undo it for before 7/1
Update; Spoke with SPG and the res is still there but I was offered some “Advice” Since your res is for after 6/30, it would be very smart if you want to be there (Jerusalem) to make a back-up Rev res with either The Plaza or some other Hotel
SPG has no problem with the hotels honoring award reservations. The hotel would be reimbursed at the usual rates for these reservations. It is up to the hotel to decide if they will honor award reservations or not. According to the manager at Tveryah, they have not received any info from management about this. Here’s hoping they will…what have they to gain by more empty rooms…

I just received this info regarding the sheraton Tiberias

just received this from the manager of sheraton tveria

You may rest assured that the Moriah Tiberias management & entire team will save no efforts to provide a high standard of hospitality and service, as we always did in the past.
Sincerely yours,
Danny Alkalay
General Manager
Does anyone know as to what would happen if I would cancel my reservation that I made before the hotel went up in catergory would I receive the amount of points which the hotel is worth now?
if it says on the res. the new amount you will get that amount if says the old amount cancel online and sometimes you get the new amount. (dont call!)
abe, dont count on it , but I do know some people who did get back the higher newer amount. But they changed their res from 1 Succos to the next and he SPG agent didnt put a note in that they originally were on a lower cat pts reward
I expect to get the exact amount of pts it cost me for my upcoming res
a friend just spoke with the SJP about their Succoth res he told me they offered him a 10% discount off the reg rate.
He said she told him even if he didnt call back a few days after 6/15 *W will wipe out ALL the res that werent converted over tp a reg $$ res
just got back the new amount!
chulent- did you cancel online or by phone??
online
that hotel http://www.mamillahotel.com looks freakin awsome it seems alittle to incredible
dont know about the food or the location
could be an issue
dan would u sell the reservation?
Wow, it looks great. FYI, this is down the block from the (former Sheraton) Plaza hotel, so location is still great.
@good on ya:
@Mikeoracle:
Indeed, it does look quite awesome, and the location can’t be beat!
It appears to have just opened…who knows maybe it’ll be a future SPG property?
It does resemble a little the style of Starwood brands W and Westin, it would be nice if this is the future J-M SPG property!
It is a good area, I was just there recently in this new “mall” by the hotel and it is a very new and nice place, probably 10 minute walk to the Kosel.
Are the 10,000 points ” gesture of goodwill” offered per reservation or per member?
The mamila hotel is really nice. The rooms are very modern. The location is great,around 10 minutes from town,20-25 min from the kotel. There are also a bunch of shop’s and restaurants right there The only issue would be that the studio room is tiny. There are 2 beds and if you turn around to quickly you might break your nose banging into the wall!! And it’s very expensive.
COnsidering that this is the same owner as David Citadel, why would they move this property to Starwood? My guess is that it’s a new hotel and they’re simply willing to take whatever rate Starwood was going to give the Plaza.
I dont understand….dan, u got this offer from spg for a reservation you had, now, might one make a new reservation for this actual deal?
Yes Its In A Great Location Its By The New Mall Just Outside jaffo Gate There Is Even The Famous Dairy Remon Restaurant
@loyal reader:
I had reservations from before they stopped taking them.
If you have a res at The Jeru Plaza, I wouldnt wait for SPG to call me (I didnt) Id call them (I did Corp Services 800-328-6242 ask for ext 6135)
since there are only a limited amount of rooms at Mamilla if you wait for them to call You, you could be a SOL case and have no choice but to cancel and get your pts back, if they run out of rooms that they will make available under this situation.
Is the Mamilla the brand new Hotel on the adjacent corner to what used to be the Hilton (forgot what the new name is)?
And by the way, if it IS (Mamilla adjacent to Hilton)- they are building a monster Waldorf right across the street as well.
@C:
yes thats The Mamilla’s location its owned by the same people who own The Davids Citadel
as for The Waldorf dont hold your breathe they havent done anything there in over 6 months , they should change the sign to read opening 3010 instead of 2010. No way will it be ready in 2010
To All,
I had an eight night stay in Tveria which I had to cancel and when I did I received my points back at the higher amount (additional 19k) but then yesterday I received the 10k goodwill bonus and they took away those 19k. Anyone else have this experience???
HSS
has anyone gotten a res at Mamilla , Im still waiting to hear about 2 reses I had with The Plaza for 2 different time periods
SPG refunded my Jerusalem Plaza reservation points. They added a 10,000 point bonus.
I spoke with someone at the Corporate office in Westchester who reported very few rooms available at the Mamilla. SPG prioritized Platinum members. The rest of us are left in the cold.
I proposed a subsidized rate at another Jerusalem hotel. They said no deal. I explained that the high hotel rates for sukkos made it impossible to make other arrangements and I would cancel my flight and pay the penalty. They said their decision is final and offered no compromise solution. They showed no interest in the fact that my Jerusalem Plaza reservation was made 9 months ago and this was to be a family Holiday trip with several rooms reserved and airline tickets paid for.
Starwood’s Corporate home page contains the following mission statement:
“Company Values
At Starwood, we call our shared values “promises.†These promises guide our everyday actions and ensure a common understanding of what we can expect from one another.
Starwood’s values are:
* Go the Extra Step by taking actions that build lasting connections and loyalty
* Play as a Team by working globally and across all teams in the company
* Do the Right Thing by using good judgment, respecting our communities, associates, owners, partners and the environment”
They certainly did not handle this problem as ‘Promised’!
It’s October 2011 and there are now only three of the four remaining hotels left. No new ones have been added. Yet they claim to be adding new ones all the time.
