Update: Giftly has been cancelling all gifts made today.
——————————————————————————-
Giftly allows you to send money to a friend for a 1% fee.
I sent my wife 2 gifts of $999 each with my United Club credit card for a $10 fee each time.
She then cashed them out right away. She sent one $999 gift directly to her paypal account (from where she’ll have it sent to her bank account) and another $999 gift to a credit card that she doesn’t normally use (from where she’ll request a refund check). Soon they will even support transfers to debit cards so that it will go directly to your checking account. It takes a few days to get the funds.
Probably a good idea to make the payment and then collect the gift from a different IP address.
If you’re trying to meet a spend threshold Giftly is a no-brainer, but even without that it’s a great deal.
For example if you have a Chase Freedom card and a Chase checking account, a $999 purchase+$10 fee will earn you 1,110 miles. That’s buying miles for .9 cents each.
If you have a Chase Sapphire card, a $999 purchase+$10 fee will earn you 1,080 miles. That’s buying miles for .93 cents each.
With a United Club card (click on Club card on the right side) , a $999 purchase+$10 fee will earn you 1,514 miles. That’s buying miles for .66 cents each.
Of course you can “buy” miles for .47 cents with Visa gift cards at Staples, but that takes more effort to cash out. With Giftly it goes directly to paypal You can read examples of awards you can get when buying miles for .47 cents here, just run the numbers on your credit card to see the cost per mile and what those awards would cost you.
I don’t see any limits for Giftly, which means it probably won’t last long in its current form. Enjoy it while it lasts!

Thanks Dan!
How do you send giftly to Paypal?
Did it post as a cash advance?
Do you think it Citi would code it as a cash advance?
There’s a sports app called swoopt. Basically its a betting app on sports in order to put in money they charge your cc and if u want to cash out they send it to your checking account and there is no fee on that
so they will prob catch on and not allow this anymore. the question i have is why? they are making a 1% profit! what do they care if we use it to meat spend req?
Why do you get 1514 on United Club Card?
And… If you have the 2% all around cashack cards… = Make $10.18 per transaction 😉
Or the Barclay Arrival for 2.2% Cash Back!
Dan, why? Why? 🙁
@ImaGvir:
I lowered my cash advance limit to zero on my Citi card and I was still able to use it.
@Meeting Thresh:
Just follow the prompts when you get a gift.
@ImaGvir:
If you’re nervous call your card to set your cash advance to zero.
@Dans the man:
Card processing costs more than 1%.
@Yossi:
1.5 miles per dollar.
@Super Speed:
Indeed!
@phan:
Because once its on DDF its going to hit every other site out there.
So enjoy it while it lasts.
@Centro:
Bingo.
This should not have been posted on the main site. Big big mistake. Some FT’ers and some fw’ers are going to be fuming.
Hi, can the recipient pay the senders CC? Thanks
If you send it to a credit card, how do you know they won’t claw back?
Why 9 9 9 and not more?
know of any daily or monthly limits on sending money?
@Sam:
Once it was posted to DDF it was on borrowed time.
If I didn’t post it first then someone else would have.
@Question:
I dont recommend that.
@Ash:
That’s the limit per transaction.
@Yoni:
I’m not aware of any.
could you send to someone at the same address ?
and another $999 gift to a credit card that she doesn’t normally use (from where she’ll request a refund check). Y to a cc what she don’t normally use ? And how do you request a refund check ???
Can the funds be sent to a bluebird card & paid to the original cc from there?
@the point guy: how long does it take for them to refund you? cuz I know alot of these betting sites take a long time.
could i send to my wife and have her pay her cc?
Can you also send gifts via vgc? Also, what type of gift cards did you send your wife?
@Dan: I have the united club card and i only get 1 point per dollar.
Made 2 on citi said it was reg purchase.
Should I stay away from using Amex or citi?
@dan can you send a gift to yourself?
Paypal won’t charge to recieve the money?
hay where is my post?
my Paypal says i cannot withdraw more than $500/month. is there a way to get past that?
On their homepage you can see what’s happening now.
Funny to watch all the $999 gifts
will this work for meeting the 5k on the business ink card? it says in the terms that balance transfers and cash advances do not count to the
$5k. do we know how this is coded??
@ the point guy
do you have to place a bet and they charge the card only the amount you tell them ? please explain other details that pertain to this.
Awesome, thanks dan!
Thanks Dan! Always Keeping us informed!
super speed how do you get the 2.2% cash back is automatically ?tx
Why did your wife not sent both of payments to paypal, Why send one to a CC and request a refund?
Dan! You’re legit the man! Thanks for all your awesome ideas bro!!!
THANKS
Why send to an unused CC?
Does it post as a refund on the regular CC and take away your points on that one?
what do you guys do after the Petira of BB?
Is this the new version of Herman Cain’s “999 Plan”?
Yea… I have friends maxing out their credit limits. This is gonna be closed soon..(i hope not)
In the other approach with Staples – do you get easy reward money off gift cards? This will in essence cover the fee
good luck with IRS knocking on your door when you get a 1099 from paypal.
What about using the ink card
If it’s a 1% fee. Why u get charged $10 for sending $999.. U shud only get charged $9.99??? Do I not know math?
Sending money to a credit card in order to get a refund check puts you on the express lane for A/A!
Banks are very wary of it, it is used many times for money laundering.
I would recommend against it
My Paypal withdrawal limit is $500 a month. So how do u up that limit?
My order just got cancelled by giftly.
Same Here, looks like its Dead already!!!!
Any usable free VPN options?
Just got cancelled.
They cancelled my two orders.
they are canceling orders through the tuch (sh)
Same here, they’re canceling orders.
Another order from earlier cancelled, looks like it is over.
placed 1st order, got cancelled 3 minutes later. called amex and amex stated cancelled on giftly’s site not amex
40k cancelled lol
@Mark: no easy rewards on cards.
Write cost as .009 which is the proper way and it’s easier to understand the low cost.
Just sayin
@ninim2200:
NOT SURE Y EVERYONE IS WORRIED ABOUT GETTING 1099’D-
IF YOU CAN SHOW THAT IT WAS TRANSFERRED FROM A HUSBAND TO WIFE (OR ANY OTHER LEGAL DEPENDENT) THEY DONT TAX U… ITS GOING FROM 1 POCKET TO ANOTHER, ITS NOT PROFIT)
Another Giftly cancellation here – womp womp
if u get 1099, you can send it to obamanation, mr tush
I wouldn’t be surprised if they cancel any large orders from all day today.
Its dead now. All orders are being cancelled.
@Dan, Has your order been cancelled?
@Sammy, Dan said .9 of a cent, which is correct. You are saying .009 which is of a dollar. This issue has been debated to death already.
Post deserves an update, IMO.
Order cancelled
cansillation operashin
@AJK:That is all you have to say.
Per the Terms of Swoopt if you continue to try an run money through the system only with an intent to withdraw it, we may start holding onto your deposit amounts. Because of our identify verification system, we win 99.5% of credit card disputes. Please stop.
@Swoopt: I think you need a better detection system.
The Giftly that you purchased (order QYQY8XJW2) has been cancelled, and the credit card used to make the purchase has been issued a full refund. The refund will appear on your credit card in 3-5 days, or the purchase charge will disappear from your statement entirely.
We are very sorry for any inconvenience. If you have any questions please email us at support@giftly.com.
And another to good to be true offer bites the dust. Rest in peace Giftly. It’s a shame I didn’t get a chance to use your services but on the other hand at least my inbox isn’t being flooded with cancellations 🙂
@Swoopt:
Suuuuuure ya do.
Name that tune: “Shifty Giftly Shifty GONE!”
I just tried it again , it warked
@Decimator – I totally agree with what @Sammy says its .009 not .9 which is 90 cents
so what if the company clearly does not want the service used this way? screw them! my rav said this is ok and its a kiddush hashem to use this service in this manner and to post on this thread with my hebrew name plus anyone who says this is not ethical is a frummie know it all fanatic with a stick up their you-know-where and also i believe that every penny comes from god and he wants me to act in the most appropriate way possible and any money that i am supposed to get i will get and any money i am not supposed to get i wont and he controls every aspect of everything in such a perfect manner as to be able to get me anything he wants without my need to be involved with any shenanigans AND I STILL THINK THIS IS RIGHT.
/sarcasm
enjoy your miles, oh good jews.
No longer working. Game over.
@such honestly, you are saying my thoughts! keep your values! you are a tzadik in the city of …, lets just say there were no 10 tzadikim there, vehameivin yavin.
@such honesty.:
I am far from perfect and have probably even pulled crap like this. But you are right on.
What exactly violated their rules?
People that gifted $25 today were also cancelled, are they now able to figure out what’s a real gift and what’s not?
If they don’t want people sending gifts then let ’em charge a price where they make a profit.
Why would they run a service at a loss and not want people to use it?
Stupid business models are stupid.
@dan @such honesty. @apple
we all know there is such a thing as navel bereshus hatorah. you TECHNICALLY didn’t do anything wrong but it is what is intended by those that instituted it. best example were the guys that made it to the jets saturday afternoon/evening. they stayed at the sheraton meadowlands, kosher food and all (glaat, im sure). they arranged with the jets not to have to carry the tickets. they made havdala at halftime. no laws broken. clearly not how chazal pictured us spending shabbos.
thats why many people are not comfortable with this mentality, even when no rules/terms&conditions are being broken. the whole defense of “what rule was violated?” or “if its not breaking the rules so must be they are ok and happy for ppl to do that” is just something that ppl cant swallow, as it is similar thinking to the navel bereshus hatorah mentality.
Dan, i would love to hear your thoughts on this……
is this still working? On top of the page it says that all gifts were cancelled today
@Karen:
You guys really need to give up on this already! Dan and Decimator are correct and the rest of you disagreeing need to go back to elementary school. Dan is talking in terms of cents NOT dollars. If something costs a penny you say 1 cent. If it costs less than a penny you say .9 cents. This is basic decimal places math! Give up!
Seems to me like the perfect site for fraud. A theif steals a physical credit card or your credit card data is breached. They then purchase a giftly with it to someone also involved in the fraud. They then request the cash or a disbursement from Paypal or another means to recover the funds. Presto, now you have used a stolen CC account like an ATM card and have the cash in hand. Giftly doesn’t sound like a great site to be honest.
I just tried it again, and it looks like they upped the fee. Might not be worth it….
