Free Phones For Sprint As You Go Service With No Contract
Sample phones:
Samsung Galaxy Victory 4G LTE Android: $0
LG Optimus Elite Android: $0
Apple iPhone 4 8GB Pre-Owned: $99.99
Sprint As You Go plans have no contract, no credit check, and no early termination fee.
The activation fee is waived right now and shipping is free as well.
A smartphone plan with unlimited talking and texting is $45/month and a plan with unlimited talking, texting, and data usage is $60/month.
Plans for non-smartphones are less expensive than that.
You can cancel at any time with no penalty.

Can a sprint iphone 4 work in israel?
can these phones be used as regular phones?
@Buddy: No, only the 4s and higher.
can I use it for one month,cancel it and reinstate service at a later point with the same phone?
Can we use these phones for at&t?
What’s stopping me from cancelling the plan after a day and giving the phone to my kid to play games with?
Can these be used on regular sprint (where you roam on verizon)?
i cant checkout there,
anyone here ordered it already?
@Oompaloompa:
They do roam on Verizon if there’s no Sprint coverage, but you can’t select roaming only on these phones.
You pay per month so you csnt cancel next you.
It seems like that they will require you to open a plan upon pick up.
Can anyone verify?
As someone was starting to say, can they be use for a month or two and then be canceled and used on a VZW plan? (Missed the time to upgrade without loosing my unlimited data plan, trying find an affordable way around it.)
@sam:
Did you maybe add a phone already to your cart?
It allows only 1 phone per order.
If you cancel, do you have to give the phone back?
Why not cancel service once phone is received and then you get a completely free phone
Is there anything i can do with the phone if i do not want sprint service?
@chaim:
Use it as a mini tablet 🙂
anybody know if you can really cancel right away and pay nothing ? or is that considered a return and they will expet the phone back ?
actually I seem to remember that cancelling within 60 days of any cell phone contract is a return
if u cancel its pay per month, so ul probably just pay the 45$ because they dont prorate prepaid. I filled out the account info but Im debating if its worth 45 bucks
so should I click continue or not? that is the the question….
@Moshe:
There’s no contact or fee. How would they ask for the phone back??
@chaim yankel:
How do you know they don’t prorate the month?
From what I understand the phone is worth $150 new on ebay.
but you may need to open it to activate before you cancel the phone.
@MaaYanky: Please excuse my ignorance- can i use wifi on such a device if i do not activate the sprint service?
jessica on the sprint IM is my source
yes u can use wifi
@chaim yankel:
I wouldn’t trust Sprint IM.
Terribly unreliable info.
dan- u know otherwise?
I am getting this error:
Your security is important to us. At this time, we can’t complete your order online because we cannot create a PIN for you.
We apologize for the incovenience. You can either save your cart and come back later to place your order, or call 866-866-7509 to order now.
Anyone else having a problem?
can I get the phone and not activate and sell it straight on ebay?
The following is the chat i had with Sprint:
You: Are there any free phones for the pay as you go?
Megan: Yes, the LG Optimus Elite – As You Go and the Samsung Galaxy Victoryâ„¢ 4G LTE – As You Go are great smartphone and free currently.
You: but do i must chose service when i order the phone?
Megan: Yes, you’ll need to select the plan to be able to use the service.
You: can i cancel the plan before i even activate???
Megan: Yes, that’s correct.
You: so if i get the phone and never open the box will i be able to cancel?
Megan: Yes, you can cancel the service any time without extra charge for this no contract plan.
You: will i have to return the phone if i cancel service?
Megan: Yes, if you want refund for the device, you’ll need to return the phone.
You: is there a limited per household???
Megan: There is no limit per household.
You: how can I cancel if I don’t want to continue service?
Megan: You can contact our Customer Care to cancel the service.
Megan: You also have an option to visit the nearest Sprint store to cancel it.
its prorated!!
just to educate my freinds here
most if not all sprint & verizon phones don’t work outside the US because they are CDMA and not GSM quadband or tri band. Once you leave their carrier, their phone is pretty much useless. TMobile & AT&T phones are mostly GSM phones meaning they are GSM and once unlocked can be used at most to any country in the world.
is this a mistake that will stop at any moment?
Just spoke to Sprint, You do NOT have to return the phone if you cancel, however they claim that it’s only free if you transfer an old phone number, otherwise it’s 100$. Does not say that on the site.
@Dan: they don’t prorate the month, they will charge you for atleast 1 month
miss- how do u kno its prorated?
conversation with sprint rep
Jessica: Yes, you can keep the phone, but keep in mind that these no contract Sprint phones are specifically locked to only work with Sprint on these Sprint As You Go plans.
You: oh so it wouldnt even work on sprint contracted plans?
Jessica: I’m afraid it will not, it will not it will only work with Sprint on the Sprint As You Go no contract plans.
You are only charged the $45 if you activate the plan.
If you don’t activate you just have yourself a free phone!
i spoke to sprint and they said that if I pay for the first month $45 and then cancel after 5 days i will only pay for 5 days and they will refund me.
So they do prorate.
@motti g: Megan: Yes, if you want refund for the device, you’ll need to return the phone.
refund for the device??? since when did I pay for the device?
this is a great deal!
How much is the iphone worth on ebay?
@motti g
“Do I must I must chose service” WTF language is that? Yiddish?
I assume there has got to be a way to make these phone work on regular sprint or virgin mobile or whatever.
@ Binyomin – It actually does list that $100 discount on the page (look where the discounts are itemized), but may apply it even if you don’t choose porting your number. I haven’t tested.
is this a mistake with sprint?
see comment 37,
basically if your’e only buying the phone to sell later on ebay its not worth it,since the phone will not work on any other plan.
yes you might/might not receive a refund for the 45dollars but still the phone is not much worth besides for keeping it as a spare phone on a prepaid contract…
Even though i didnt transfer a phone number, i ordered it online and it said 0$. it may be a glitch, that really its supposed to be 99$ without switching numbers, in which case take advantage while you can.
Or giving it to your kid as an MP3 player with games.
@EJB: Youre right, and i just did it and it applied the 100$ off anyway.
or using with wifi.
miss-thanks i ordered it
Can these all be used with WiFi?
@EJB: In the confirmation email also the 100$ discount was applied
Again, am I understanding this correctly. I can get it, pay for a month then cancel it. When I cancel it I can’t switch it to regular Sprint or to VZW so, how am I benefiting with this deal?
@chaim: all the smartphones, yes
@manganator: Currently, the 100$ discount works even if you dont transfer/port a phone number. that is probably a mistake.
They wont have a clean esn so wont be able to be activated
@Barry:
You get a free smartphone with WiFi that can play music, apps, internet, etc.
@Binyomin: whats the $100 discount?
@motti g: They have a deal going: 100$ off any phone when you do switch n save (transferring your old phone number) when you buy online. The no contract smart phones are only supposed to be free AFTER the 100 $ discount. However, if you order it online, it will go through and you’ll get it for free WITHOUT doing the switch n save
@Binyomin:
does this include iphone??
so i can get the phone free as long as i never activate it?
Therefor no need to activate.and you have a free mp3 player for the kids
Between the galaxy and the optimus, which one’s better? Anyone’s opinion?
@motti g: No, the Iphone 4 is 99$ after the 100 dollar discount. The galaxy victory is free though, 200$ on amazon
DO I HAVE TO WORRY ABOUT THE $1 CHARGE ON THE CC?
I’m still a little worried they’ll suddenly decide to charge me 100$ cuz I didn’t do switch n save. I’m not sure if they’re allowed to do that, since when I ordered it it was free, but still a little worried.
@motti g: No, the Iphone 4 is 99$ after the 100 dollar discount. The galaxy victory is free though, 200$ on amazon
@Binyomin:
A company can’t charge you more than the confirmatory says. That’s highly illegal.
Of course you can always use a $1 Citi virtual card number or a gift card with just a few bucks on it if you’re really that worried. But I wouldn’t be.
its making me pick a plan in order to buy…how do i avoid paying that fee?
@Dan: Thank you!
@lubab:
That fee is charged when you call up to activate the plan.
You have to give a credit card number, they only charge at activation not before?
I ordered the Samsung. Best case scenario – I can cancel right away and activate on my Ting plan for my daughter. Worst case – It is truly locked to the Sprint prepaid plan and I can’t move it to Ting – then I have a free game device for the kids to play on while on long trips.
Sounds like a win-win to me. Thanks again Dan!
when I receive the phone do I first activate it then cancel the plan right after or cancel the plan without activating it?
@free phone: when you receive the phone don’t activate and everything will be fine, when u activate then u need to pay 45$ a month or 60$ a month for the service so if you don’t activate it you got a free phone!!!!
I just ordered 10 of them
Ordered it shipped to the house. Maybe I’ll try another to pick up. Sounds too good to be true. Hoping they don’t cancel. Worse case it’s another internet / game / mp3 device best case I can unlock. Dan – another great one!
did i miss it? its only letting me reserve for pick up in store
@Dan:
Thanks Dan, bought with a Citi VCN with a $1 charging limit 🙂
@Ralph:
Still working, try another browser or incognito.
@Simcha:
Well played, enjoy!
To order it says pick a plan?
Dan, a few questions i didnt really see the answers above.
1. can i order and never use with the pay as you go but use on a reg plan instead of the upgrade?
2. if i never activate will i be charged at all?
3. how can i order more than 1 phone
@Rahul: You first select a plan but at the end your total will be 0$ and when the phone arrives if you activate it then you will be charged the plan you selected/
They changed it now, no more mention of Switch n Save, just a straight up -250$, resulting in a free phone!(the galaxy one)I ordered 3 already
FYI, they let you order as many as you want with the same credit card,you just have to order them seperately.
ordered both. we’ll see what happens….
In the price breakdown on Sprint’s website, it says the -$150 discount is only for activation. So if you’re not activating, why wouldn’t you get charged the 150 for each phone you ordered? I want to know I’m not going to get bitten in the but before placing a bunch of these orders…
The samsung victory is better
@Buddy: Yes, the iPhone will work in Israel if international roaming is enabled.
Funny, my order number begins with OYSH! Think they know I got the tip from people who often say Oysh?
This is an amazing find, Thank you Dan!
Did anybody have difficulty at checkout?
Conversation with the representative:
You: If I do order the phone, and cancel the plan before activating the phone, will there be any charges to my card?
Jessica: The new phones are pre-activated and you do not need to activate them.
Jessica: However, you can cancel your order after placing the order.
Jessica: We also offer a 14-day satisfaction guarantee. If you are not satisfied with the new phone, you can return the phone.
Jessica: The Sprint Satisfaction Guarantee applies to eligible upgrades and new line activations. To qualify, call us to deactivate and return to place of purchase with complete, undamaged phone/device and receipt within 14 days for all devices. You’re responsible for actual usage charges (monthly service charges, taxes, Sprint surcharges, etc.). We will refund your phone/device cost and will also refund your activation fee if you deactivate within 3 days of activation.
Jessica: A $35 restocking fee may be charged and an early termination fee (ETF) of $350 for advanced devices and $200 for other devices applies if the device is not returned.
You: Alright, thank you for the information! Have a good night
@EliB:
Notice that last line about being charged if the device is not returned… Doesn’t that make this “free if you cancel” thing incorrect and moot?
When you purchase a phone with a service, doesnt sprint usually attach that phone to your plan? so if you sell it, the buyer would have a hard time activating it since its linked to your account. True?
@EliB:
Sprint chat is worthless.
“Jessica” sounds like she’s a robot giving you stock answers as if you are ordering a post-paid contract plan and not a prepaid no-contract plan.
The prepaid plan has no activation fee or ETF.
Awesome. No issues. Thanks Dan
@Buddy:
No. The phone is not only locked to Sprint, but also uses CDMA technology which is no longer in use in Israel. I speak from personal experience. 🙂
@Dan:
So you’re sure that the 200$ ‘for other devices’ is only to the ETF?
And separately, the 150$ activation credit that brings the phone down to 0.00$ doesn’t get charged to your card if you don’t return the phone? (I guess because it’s not a charge that you paid, and were getting a rebate for. They never charged you in the first place?)
When a price is listed as $0 that is the most they can charge for the item.
@Dan:
Right, at the time of purchase. My concern is about in a week, when I cancel the plan, and don’t want to return the phone. That’s not some breach of contract from this purchase, that makes me liable for the extra savings they offered?
Sorry to ask so many questions, I’m just worried it’s too good to be true and don’t want to pay that much for this phone 😀
@EliB:
Well that’s the beauty, there is no contract, credit check, or termination fee for “on-the-go” plans.
I can’t really see the downside here.
@Dan:
I see. I’m trying to order one now, and every time I try to choose a username for the account, the page locks up and crashes. It’s specifically the username box in step 2. Anyone else having this issue?
Try another browser.
I would say the downside is that I’m going to be very busy with my eBay account!!! Yeehaaww Thank you Dan.
On a side note I hope Staples will have the same gift card offer they had last November because I’m running low on Staples cash.
@EliB
I had the same issue with multipule browsers till I spoke with Jessica on “live chat” then magically it worked.
Dan, if i dont activate will i be charged $45 and can i use phone as mp4 and for kids games without activating?
thanks
Please note – I just spoke to dear Jessica = she claims You can expect to receive your first bill within one week of signing up for Sprint service. Your first bill will contain partial-monthly charges, starting from your first day of service. It will also include your next full month in advance.
So if you chose the $45 option and free phone then you get free phone and turn it on when you ready and then within a week you will get a bill. something to that effect. If you cancel then you will get charged for the days it was on.
If you buy it as a gift for someone else – bills will come to you not them. However they can possibly call up customer service and have the info changed.
Just be forewarned – from the moment you switch on the phone – you have activated the month.
I don’t see a clear answer
1. How do we get around paying $45?
2. How do we sell it being that it’s connected to the plan that was selected
When purchased?
Thank you!!
@Yosef: That is not necessarily a win/win situation. Some ppl are not looking to give their kids a smartphone to play with, both because of the games and also because of the capability to go on the net with wifi.
thanks dan. ordered two. hope it can work on Ting
B”H
If we can use with http://www.ringplus.net that will be amazing.
HI,
Sounds like a great deal as I am in the market for a smartphone.
For the Apple phone it does state you will pay $100 unless you transfer your phone number.
I have a regular phone.. not smartphone that I use. I presume I could use this number.
But which phone in your opinion is the best phone to take advantage of?
I hear about the Samsung quite a bit.
We all love a great deals and exploiting them….But a lot of you are talking about just plain old scamming sprint (a company I cant stand) by taking a phone with no intention of using them, in any way for their intended purpose. This is not exploiting a system to earn more points, its straight up stealing, if from the get-go you plan on just keeping the phone for free and cancelling right away.
@chaim:
Maybe its possible to flash the phone to page plus .
Rabosai, please do not take advantage of a vendor. Gneivas Daas. stealing.
Forgot to mention that I use an Apple computer… Would that make a difference in which smartphone to get? Thanks all@!!
Have been trying since last night…every time I get to the username and password it doesn’t allow me to go through with it…what I do????
Keeps freezing when creating a username! anyone have a similar issue?
help!!! Im ordering and I cant stop!!
I have the same issue, maybe its dead.
If you pick the 45$ plan it will work.
@eli:
Me 2. Just finished 8 I think I am done for now
I just tried it with both free phones, if you choose the $45 plan which you can change later they will send you the free phone. It says it will charge you 0.00 now and 0.00 in the future. When you receive the phone you can choose your plan, it will charge you according to the plan you sign up for when you confirm you want a plan.
Called up. They said you don’t get charged the $45 until you call to activate the plan.
Seems this really is just a free Android that you can use over wifi.
@B@Bob: Can Dan, or someone else comment? I am just confused why Sprint would be giving away free Androids for nothing, or worst case for 45$ – can someone comment?
I ordered the phone. If I cancel can I just use the phone for music, where there is wifi etc? Thanks.
Sprint just called to verify my order. My phone is on the way!
@Bob: I was told they are pre-activated
looks like another chilul Hashem in the making.
can’t anything be above board?
Just to comment on the chillul hashem, scamming comments – the people at Sprint are smart people. They know what they are doing with the pay as you go phones etc. Trust me, they’ve considered people cancelling after 1 month. It could be that they have too much inventory and already bought large numbers of these phones from prior agreements. It seems that if we signed up for a “free phone” we will all be paying $45 for the first month anyways. Sprint likely is breaking even or trying to recoup losses with the $45 plan, knowing some people will cancel.
The fine print says”
Sprint As You Go SmartPhone
If you purchased your device with a 2-year Agreement and cancel your Sprint service before your Agreement term ends, up to $350/line early termination fee (ETF) for Advanced Devices & up to $200 ETF/line for other devices applies (no ETF for Agreements cancelled in compliance with Sprint’s Return Policy”
Does mean if I cancel I will pay 250$?
@Uri:
No that means if you purchase a device with a 2 year contract that there is an ETF.
The pay as you go option clearly says it has no contract and no ETF.
Read the first line again
”
If you purchased your device with a 2-year Agreement ”
Did your checkout page say 2 year agreement ? Or 0 months ?
How many are you guys buying?
Will a regular sprint SIII work on sprint Pre-Paid plan? Or must the phone be a Sprint Pre-Paid Phone?
Well it says
Sprint As You Go SmartPhone
but then below
if you purchased your device with a 2-year Agreement and cancel your Sprint service before your Agreement term ends, up to $350/line early termination fee (ETF) for Advanced Devices & up to $200 ETF/line for other devices applies (no ETF for Agreements cancelled in compliance with Sprint’s Return Policy).
HI Dan,
Dan can someone pls help me?
I am new to the smartphones.
I use an apple computer.
Which phone would be best?
I know apple but have heard a lot about Samsung.
Thanks!
I ordered a Galaxy. They called me today for my Page Plus act # and they spoke to Page Plus. They told me that PP will cancel my account on Nov 23rd. I am worried if I will loose my cell # if I cancel Sprint. Or should I have asked for a new #??
Does anyone know how sprint as you go works? Does it auto activate upon powering on phone or do you need to manually activate it? How does monthly billing work? Can I skip a month then start again? Can I start any given month a few days late? What happens if I don’t add money to account to start new month? Will it somehow charge me?
@Buddy:
You need to insert the sim card and it should work because the all IPhone 4and 4s are unlocked outside US
Thanx dan but I juat got a email saying that they canceled the orders???
It’s manual activation. The phone doesn’t come activated.
HI,
Can anyone respond pls?
1.Which phone is the best if you use an Apple computer or does it not matter?
Which is the best phone overall to get?
2. Also. .I tried buying the Apple phone… but I do not want to give them my old number… and it comes up as a $100 fee upon check out… what to do?
THNKS
@jack:
How many did you order ?
@Misty:
Only the Samsung galaxy and the lg phone are free the iPhone cost $99.00 regardless if you get a new number or you port your old number
this is what i received after placing a bunch of orders ‘Your recent Sprint order oy-shso-728187904 has been cancelled as we could not validate the information on your order. We apologize for the inconvenience.’
@Sam: so smart
Yanki,
Thanks for responding..
1.What is the best phone to get overall?
2. Does it make a difference if I use an Apple Computer… compatability ete?
@yanki:
Yanki,
thanks for your reply.
Does anyone know if the Samsung Galaxy works well with the Apple computers or does it not matter?
i got the same cancellation email after ordering 8 phones
I ordered a phone and I see a 1 dollar charge on my credit card does anyone know what that’s for?
@abe: Did they call you trying to verify it?
i ordered 2 of them, here is the order status:

the second order i put a fake name. hope its not an issue
It seems you will be billed $57 bucks from the get go 🙁
Is this a bummer?
@DanFan: What are you talking about?
$45 bucks for the monthly plan which they activate immediately + some taxes/surcharges/fees. Do some research in the blogosphere. If you try to gyp Sprint, they may blacklist you, lock the ESN and ruin your credit. So say the pessimists out there.
from the T&C pdf: “Monthly add-ons or plans must remain active on the line of service for a full month after activating; no proration applies and refunds will not be issued for unused days during the billing cycle.”
My friend called and he was told that the free phones are only if you port in a phone number .
@yanki: If you order online you do not have to port your number to get the free phone
what’s the verdict? if I don’t activate do I get charged anything?
I ordered a phone, but the rep told me that:
1) the phone comes already activated
2) I would have 3 days to cancel
3) if I do cancel, I would need to return the phone in the return package they send with the phone. Otherwise I may face charges.
Any ideas??
As a backup plan, maybe for getting a “free” “mini tablet” – it would be worth paying one month and then canceling. This way I don’t think they can legally ask for the phone back.
Shipped
@Anonymous: yes and they said they cant give me the reason why they have to cancel after they verified. so i went to the store and they told me its because i didn’t port any number
p.s. that’s after ordering lots of phones
@Menachem:
On what network does ringplus work? How would you rate their reception/service?
Thanx
“This offer is only available when you purchase and activate a no contract Sprint as You Go device.”
“Regular Price $249.99
Here’s the math: -$249.99
Activation Discount-$150.00
Web Only – Switch & Save-$99.99
Your Price: $0.00”
@Cook: @<a to make sure your credit card is good
I just ordered a Samsung Galaxy Victory. The website is extremely slow and seems to freeze. At the end the order was accepted and i got a confirmation email. My total is $0. and when/if i activate it it’s $45 /mo. I am not obligated to activate it. I was not a chazer & got just 1 phone.
what’s the $1 charge on my amex? will that go away or if I don’t activate the phone will I get charged?
Once I receive the phone can I call up and cancel and not return?
will they bill my card if I don’t return?
Thanks
Dan, you say that there doesn’t seem to be a downside here. The big question is, however….Did YOU order any??? 🙂
@just wondering:
I ordered one.
In fact I just got the shipment notification email. I should have it Friday.
received shipping confirmation w/ tracking # on 1 out of 3 orders + assigned 646 area code phone #
Nice to hear. Truth is, people here trust you so much that I would think it means a lot to people in general to hear which of your deals you personally take advantage of.
Just got the shipment email,it said this though, which worries me: *Billing:* Your first bill will include this month’s partial charges; next month’s full charges in advance; plus applicable taxes and fees. Learn more at sprint.com/billinfo
.
@just wondering:
Not really sure how this one will play out, but at $0-$45 it’s not a bad deal either way.
@Dan: Although, if I may, why just one?
@just wondering:
Pigs get fat.
Hogs get slaughtered.
@Dan: My feelings exactly – I ordered just one, too. There are such conflicting reports on this one from so many sources, it may be we’ll end up paying a bit here. Still worth it, though.
@Dan: …as you can see from those who ordered many and had their orders cancelled.
@just wondering: Even if the order gets canceled, apparently you can go to a sprint store and they’ll resubmit the order for you
I by mistake did the $60 plan any way to change to the $45
plan if we have to pay?
Dan can you let us know if and when you cancel it, and if you end up getting to keep your phone? Thanks.
its sad that the only motivation not to gyp sprint, above, is what it would do to your credit report.
mabul came because of “Chammas”.
Aseres Hadibros say “lo signov”.
Where did we raise a generation of people who are looking to do Gneiva after Gneiva, and that what would fulfill them?
Please, go to college, get education, get jobs.
get off all govt programs.
Live your life honestly. have some dignity.
You dont want to be embaressed when asked “nasata venasata be- emunah”. ouch.
@Nachum: ur not a chazir? so i know ur not “nuchem” rosenberg
I am copying this entire discussion and would like it addressed on our shul. I encourage you do show it to your Rabonim as well.
I have ordered a couple now. How many have you guys ordered?
@dans fan, you should go to college and learn how to spell embarrassed.
@Dans fan:
I have been ripped off by sprint for the past 10 years and spent over $10,000 on phone bills. I don’t think getting a free phone and paying for the 1st month qualifies as stealing. Especially if they know exactly what they are doing.
on the page where it shows you the math explaining how you pay nothing for the phone, when you hover over the text, this is what it says
Activation discount- This offer is only available when you purchase and activate a no contract Sprint as You Go device.
web only switch and save – ONLINE ONLY: For a limited time, save UP TO $100 on this phone when you bring your number to Sprint on a new line of service.
So now I really don’t see how we can get away with paying nothing:
1) The phone comes activated (ok this one I get)
2) I don’t plan on using the plan, so i most certainly don’t plan on bringing over my existing number over.
Free Sprint smartphones, no more:(
@Jack: huh?
Think we can cancel the plan once the phones are in the air with UPS? Before new usage starts? Right now my account is showing $0 and says new usage starts in 2 days. Figuring then they will bill for the plan and will have to fight about getting the money back etc. But if the plan is cancelled before then….?
It seems sprint caught on, bec they dont let you sign up anymore if you are a new customer. Does anyone have this problem?
whats up with all the off topic “geneivah” hollering . PLEASE DAN CAN WE MOVE ALL THAT TYPE POSTS INTO THEIR OWN THREAD
when you receive your phone, can you please post step 2?
thank you.
@thanks dan: the rep I spoke to said that at the time of activation I can request to upgrade to 60 so im assuming u can downgrade as well
My shipment is on the way, the phone is activated already. They already sent me the 347#. So im good to go.
@eli: @thanks dan: call them when you ll get the phone!!
I just got this e-mail. Billing: Your first bill will include this month’s partial charges; next month’s full charges in advance; plus applicable taxes and fees. Learn more at sprint.com/billinfo.
Sounds like it will be more than $45 to keep the phone right? Dan let us know when we should cancel- before it arrives or after?
got confirmation email yesterday, but no shipment email?
you can call (855) 319-4426 to talk with Pay as you go customer care. If I have to return the phones altogether i will instead of paying the 45 plus taxes.
I was just now on sprint’s website. and guess what the galaxy victory is out of stock, anyone knows why.
I called and cancelled my accounts before receiving the phones. They didn’t ask for the phones back and the account is now showing without the device and without any charges. From my perspective it looks like it’s better to cancel before you get into your first billing period, which seems to be 2 days after shipment.
Sprint is currently out of stock of BOTH free smartphones.
Even if i dont activate it upon arrival will i be charged?
@RR thank you!
Just canceled my service! No problems! Didn’t receive the phone yet so no charges were put on my CC. phone will be at my door Tom morn
Called 855-319-4426 and cancelled my service. Said I don’t need the service started right now but might need it in the future.
No fees whatsoever.
@Dan: Dan please issue a note before everyone starts running to copy you. People at SD are reporting that Sprint has started to cancel UPS shipments and reroute them back to Sprint. Please be careful on this – it might make sense to cancel once you have it in your hand and pay the first month or whatever.
@anon:
Interesting, thanks for posting.
Guess we’ll see what happens. No big deal either way.
what information do you have to give them when you call?
order # cell number?
@Dan: No problem – I did the same as you earlier this morning, and have been monitoring the situation. If they reroute there’s nothing we can do – apparently it’s legal until product in hand (see tiger direct TV fiasco from 2010).
what are the hours of Sprint pay as you go?
Just called sprint as you go and got most of the info i needed.
1. it is POST monthly billing
2. Phone is activated and starts billing from when your order is processed NOT when it arrives or when you first use it etc.
3. This is a promo and you can keep the phone. Their only guarranty is “that you would want service on the device” and the phone works ONLY with SPRINT AS YOU GO, so if you dont pay a bill they will blacklist that device and you have no way of using it elsewhere, or even on sprint as you go FWIW.
If you dont want any fees you can cancell the plan. you’ll have 14 days from when YOUR ORDER WAS PROCESSED to get it back to sprint either in store or by mail, but mail would be hard because it needs to be BACK IN SPRINT WAREHOUSE before 14 days of time of purchase.
4. Your billing cycle starts 7 days prior to date of purchase and is prorated. Meaning if you choose to cancel after a month you will be paying a prorate of $45 + any taxes and fees which will amount to $10-$20 depending on state.
5. From what i understand you will have to pay the FULL first bill unless its returned within 14 days.
6. If you intend to keep and use their service IT MUSE BE CONTINUESS. there is no way of atopping for a month and then restarting at a later date unless you cancel your plan, then you can restart a new plan on the devise.
Hope this was helpful.
My unanswered Q’s are:
1. How to get the free phone without having to pay the 1st months bill and then cancelling.
2. Is it worth just NOT to pay 1st bill since they dont have ur SS especially if u used a gift card (for those that are only worried about these factors)
3. Is it worth the entire shlep just to get a device that will never have any service, only WI-FI use.
They can ruin your credit even without an ssn as they have your name and address, and they can find out your info.
I think i will cancel once I know that they are supposed to deliver that day. That is probably tomorrow, i am guessing that they wont be able to re route the shipments if they are out for delivery to my house already.
Mo
These statements contradict each other.
3. This is a promo and you can keep the phone. Their only guarranty is “that you would want service on the device†and the phone works ONLY with SPRINT AS YOU GO, so if you dont pay a bill they will blacklist that device and you have no way of using it elsewhere, or even on sprint as you go FWIW.
Can we keep the phone or do we have to return it. From your comments its not clear.
Why do we have to return the phone to not get billed anything. If we cancel the plan, the plan is cancelled, how can they bill us.
Well unless UPS have just left 2 empty boxes at my front door or decide to come and try and retrieve them later the ones I cancelled this morning have just been delivered.
dan- did u get ur phone yet?
Why is everyone so nervous about these phones. You do not have to activate it until you are ready too. They cant charge you for anything.
I called to cancel they said I have to return the phone and refuse ups
called sprint, first was told that I need to have the phone in my hand and then they can cancel the service.
Called back a second time and was told I can cancel but will be charged $3 for prorated use (was told that it ships activated) shetold me that if I get charged, they will refund it back. She is sending me an email stating this.
Also, Sprint rep told me that once UPS picks up the package they cannot cancel it.
@f: they will bill you for the first month about $60 not for the phone. the only way they will not bill you is if you return the phone within 14 days or possibly if you cancel before you receive the item
Dan, is it possible to post the link at the top again to make it easier to follow what’s going on
@sl2
hey daners some helpful info i am in a buissnes that makes me ship a lot and i know first hand that you can contact ups and fedex while the package is in transit and reroute cancel or change the shipment so just call and cancel it after you receive the phone
@dan
i oredered 1 phone and when they asked me for a cc# for the shipping cost i told them i didnt have one on me and they waived the fee so they dont even have a way to bill me
ps. best line ever by DAN
Pigs get fat.
Hogs get slaughtered.
Anyone with the phone @ hand already?
All Free phones are out of stock online, and when you call up sprint, they say this price is only if you port your number, however if you want a new #, you must pay the $100… so looks like they caught it after all. You can kinda mark this dead….
i called sprint as you go and tried to cancel my order, they transferred me to billing and orders and they said that since it had already shipped they cant cancel it and what i need to do is reject the ups delivery.
so i called again and asked NOT to be transferred to billing so they transferred me to cancellation and account services and i asked the nice rep not to transfer the order rather to cancel the phone activation so “that i can have the option to activate at a later date” and he went ahead and did that without issue. below is the confirmation email i received:
Dear *************,

I may be charged a prorated fee for service for one day though the rep said that he doesn’t see any charge and no account invoice was set up
I have the 2 that were delivered today.
@Dan: tried calling closed?
Dan did you call after getting phone or before?
Megan: The first month service will be required upon starting your Sprint As You Go service. If you will be canceling your line and service while inside the 14 day return policy you will receive a refund if applicable and not be charged the month of service if the device is returned.
@mo what number is cancellation and account services?
@free phone:
(855) 319-4426
Can it be cancelled online??
my phone is in transit and supposed to arrive tomorrow. I didn’t want to start with all the cancelling as there is conflicting views about that. Instead, I chatted with Sprint and asked them to remove my billing details and all cc info as the credit card given is a bad one. They did it and then I asked for a confirmation code and have a copy of the chat. They didn’t ask for a new card to put on file…..When the phone arrives whether it’s activated or not – they don’t have any info. to use for billing.
@free phone: i called (855) 319-4426 and they transffered me upon my request
@ dan after all this 238 comments what do you suggest to do now??
DEAD. The price is changed from 0$ to 99$. (and they’re out of stock anyway)
What to do for not to be billed? I am fine with the first month too.
Dan, What is your best suggestion for this?
@RR: Did you even activate the phone?
Anyone try to cancel their line by porting # to another service provider? Any free way to do this like T-Mobile?
Everyone wait till you get your phone before cancelling. You should have time to still cancel before the end of the billing period.
even the iphone is out of stock. I wonder how many people bought the iphones to resell.
out of stock
i am on hold forever with sprint.
did anyone try cancelling multiple lines at the same time. or did you do it one by one.
Wow, and they went up with the price, $199 for the iphone and $99 for the victory
finally got through, i will try cancelling all at the same time
on the phone now, cancelling them one by one!
sprint just told me that if I’m not using it they won’t start charging, saying that,they told me that if I’m using it for wifi or for mp3 they won’t charge me a cent
Does anyone know if UPS leaves the phone at doorstep?
@f what phone number did you call
855 319 4426 asking for the cancellation department
@f they canceled my plan and said I will get a bill at the end of the month ?
@Dave:
Yes, they left mine at doorstep
Writing this massage from the new victory! Works fine on WiFi without activating. Thanks Sprint for the gift. And dan for posting it!
@sam123, did you already call to cancel? got a confirmation?
Just hung up with spring. Rep says without calling them to activate the phone you will not be able to make calls. Without activating your phone, you will not be charged. Also, you can remove your CC info from the account and they will not charge your card unless you signed up for automatic payments, they will send you a bill one month after you activate your phone.
received phone today. Called to cancel. Didn’t have any problems.
@S, thanks.
@DJ: Can you tell me where I take my credit card number out from? I cant seem to find out after logging in? Thanks
Sprint just told me that if ur canceling the phone you have to ship it back whithin 14 days, if not they are gonna charge for the device
they didnt tell me to return the phones. What charge can they charge. there is no etf and the device was free.
@Yoely: you have to use dans HUCA advice. and i checked sprint 14 day policy and thats only for a contract plan
Transcript from sprint policy Termination fees
If you have signed a Service Agreement with a “one-year or two-year service commitment” and terminate before the end of your term, you will be charged an Early Termination Fee, as applicable of up to $350/line for advanced devices and up to $200/line for other devices, unless you cancel service and return your device within 14 days of activation as detailed in the Return it for a refund section above.
“For customers on a month to month plan, there is no Early Termination Fee”.
Wednesday: Ordered.
Thursday: Called 855-319-4426 and cancelled my service. Said I don’t need the service started right now but might need it in the future. No fees whatsoever.
Friday: Phone arrived.
UPS came and left a note that I need to sign for it or it will be returned.
Not now but if ur not returning it in 14 days they will charge u for the device,and about cc info , they still have their ways to blackmail etc , do u know otherwise? U think the rep didn’t knew what she says? (she even sent out a return kit)
@Yoely:
Over at DDF we made an acronym for this: DROPR
http://forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=10531.0
i got the phone and screen said activating so i pressed cancel and have not been charged, phone works fine. just trying to figure out how to get rid of the activation notification…
Tnx Dan ur the man, gshabb
If I don’t turn on the mobile then still I will be charged as it is pre-activated?
@Dan: i did the same. my bill on sprint.com say $3 and change. guess that’s the charge from before i cancelled as they start billing from when you order the phone
nothing u can do it
Got my phone,canceled,no charge!
OY VEY!!!
I just opened the box tonight and turned on the phone. Now I logged in and it is showing that my current balance is $58.79!!! Dan, you really should warn people that these come pre-activated and people will get charge once they turn on. I tried calling but they are closed now (motzei shabbos) so will have to try tomorrow… Will try to follow the comments here…
HSS
So…I got my phone…when I ordered over the phone they did not take any c.c. Info from me and don’t have my other sprint info. Is there any way they can charge me for anything?
Just called up and they said the 2 free phones are out of stock
I got my phone on Friday, did not open the box. I checked now online and see that my balance is $58
@Dan:
Hey Dan I called up and canceled my phone Friday (I still got charged $3). But since then later Friday I received an email from Sprint thanking me for joining. I called Sprint again and they ensured me that my account was cancelled. However, I received another email reminding me to sent up my sprint account. Did you receive these emails as well? Should I be worried that my account is still open?
I also received my phone on friday,and i called motzei shabbos the number on the invoice to cancel. The rep told me I must return it and my balance is $58+. And he said If I don’t return it I can’t cancel. He did not really seem too bright, and I sure hope he is wrong.
Ironically, UPS tried to deliver the phone on Friday but required signature so they are holding. I tried to cancel through Sprint.com and their system is now down.
i just got off the phone. She insisted that they don’t prorate at all and I can use the phone for the next month but I have to pay the bill. Finally I told her that it sounds a bit extreme, after all I haven’t even opened the box. She put me on hold and and came back and told me the whole thing was cancelled and I owe nothing 😀
called, at first they told me they would charge me fore the billing month until 11/24 since my last month ended billing 10/24 (the day after I ordered it).
After I said I had not even opened the box and I shouldn’t pay a whole month they put me on hold and told me they were able to cancel it as of today, so I will only get the 4 days billed to me, I guess I will wait and see.
@YY:
Same thing happened to me. But online it is showing that I owe $55.xx When I did chat they said “While I access your account , there is a note attached to it that for further details of the charges you will need to contact this number 855-319-4426.”.
How to proceed further? To call or to wait for 1-2 days?
@Rahul: The diffrence in price is because you enrolled in ebill which is free and 58xx is because he enrolled getting the bill in mail where their a $1.99 charge.
Just spent over 2 hours being transferred from department to department & speaking to 13 or 14 representatives. Bottom line was, they canceled the account but I still have to pay $12 (even though the phone only came yesterday & I haven’t activated it or even opened the box yet, they claim that pay as you go starts from when it is ordered & can not be refunded) & they are sending me a return envelope to send back the phone & will charge me for the device if they don’t get it back. I guess I should have used a virtual credit card.
i have 55$ outstanding balance after cancellation. i think il just leave it with a balance, they have no connection to me to get my money. i dont think they can legally charge me on the credit card used for the online purchase
CHANGE OF STORY, i just spoke to sprint and as usual when speaking respectful they adhere to your request, and the REP said that she will just adjust the entire balance to 0, because i didnt use the phone at all
@Reb Moshe:
Which department was that? Account Services or pay-as-you-go?
I spoke to Sprint a number of times today, always with the same result. The only way to keep the phone is to pay for one month of service.
@Shrek:
you can keep trying, it took me 6 tries till I got it cancelled effective today. final cost $14.
make sure it’s cancelled effective today and not at the end of the billing cycle.
@Igor
There is a free app called Smart App Protector. It lets you lock wifi, data, USB, bluetooth, and individual apps. I don’t know if it a “TAG” approved or not, but it works for me and my kids. Then can’t get any data. Period. And I locked all apps that use data, along with turning on the “auto lock” If somehow they manage to get an apk on the phone, and they instal a new app, it automatically lock that app too.
Called 6 times was told every single time to avoid phone charge i will have to pay one month of 45 plus tax. And the 7th time i got lucky and canceled for a total of 3.40. Further charges
You can simply port the number to another prepaid carrier and the account will be cancelled automatically, all you will have to pay is the pro-rated charge for the few days you used it.
@David
It seems that porting the number to another prepaid carrier is the way to go. Whats the simplest way to do this for a bunch of phones? I have a virgin mobile phone lying around. Is there a way i can port all my new sprint phones (thanks dan) to that one virgin mobile phone?
Can I port to a prepaid phone (page plus) that already has a number attached and is currently active?
Is it possible to use my new phone with a different (page plus) prepaid provider?
just spoke with live rep (karen) she said i can return it to a store and will not get charged anything.
I did not activate my phone.(I pressed cancel when it tried to self activate when I 1st turned it on) When signing in to my account the total due is zero. Seems like either they don’t charge you until it’s activated or I will get charged at the end of the month?
I just spoke to CS and they told me that these phones even if they come pre activated with a phone number they dont start the actual billing of the month before you call to activate it. I gave her my number to double check that it’s not active and she confirmed that the line is still inactive. So, there you go, calm down and ignore the $58 cost that you see online as it won’t start billing unless you call to activate the line.
They want me to return it to cancel it, why??? What am I doing wrong?
Want me to go to a Sprint store to cancel since it is within 14 days.
@cy2
Try T-Mobile PrePaid, get a SIM and activation number, will cost about 5-10, get your account number online and use the PIN you set up during ordering, worked for me great.
@Barry Try calling again and again till they cancel it or port it to a different provider which automatically cancels the sprint account.
I can port the numbers for you out of Sprint, cost is $15 through PayPal.
I’ll need:
Tel. No.
Account number
PIN
email me jffgrg7 AT gmail
@yy:
I am not sure about that. It could be that phone was activated by mistake when 1st turned on. Try to make a phone call. If you are not activated the call won’t go through.
If you tell them you may want to activate it later, you just want the service canceled for now, you will not have to pay anything. That’s what I did.
I too called them on Friday and told them i may want the service later but for now i want the plan deactivated.
They cancelled the account. I was told they don’t have the CC info once the account is closed.
I checked the cc today – and thank G there are no charges.
what messenger service works with just wifi without any phone number attached to the phone
@@Sruly: google voice or pinger
I think Sprint somehow blocked the stock browser, even on wifi. Every time I try to use it, they tell me to enter my sprint phone number. However, all other internet-based applications work fine on wifi.
For anyone who is still looking to cancel their account – this is what i was given from chatting with them.
We have a dedicated Account Services team that handles all cancellation requests. Please contact them directly by:

one of the cheapest way to port out is ptel mobile you can get a $10 prepaid sim card package for $6 and port your number to it and have 200 minutes for the next two months
The cheapest is pageplus u get $2 free exp. In 4 months, u only need to provide a esn#
@A: huh? I don’t understand. What’s exp stand for and how do I do it?
@chaya: exp. Stands for “expires” so if u have a cdma phone sitting around u could have ur number parked for 4 months without costing u a penny
Wow, 2 hours and 5 phone calls later. I just received my cancellation e-mail.
Where do I make sure that my credit card information has been removed?
Received my phone yesterday. Called and cancelled last week. No charges listewd on my account online or on my CC.
Just sold the phone on ebay!!
Thanks Dan
@geshmak:
How much did the phone go for on ebay?
is there a way to avoid the tax?
@A: thanks. So for two bucks I can port to pageplus? How do I do it?
I ported my number to page plus! But my account still says my balance is $58…. Is that something that will be adjusted Tom or the next day? Or do I have to pay for this month?
@chaya call page plus @18005502436 tell them you want to port your number and follow the steps! I believe you need to have a spare phone either page plus or Verizon to port your number to. Bec they will ask you for a ESN number of the phone you want to port the number 2
@chaya: it doesn’t cost u a penny! They give u free $2.00 credit (value for about 16 min.) upon activation, that free $2 will expire after 120 days unless u add more $
@chaya: https://www.pagepluscellular.com/
If i port my number to page plus will i still get charged for this month??
Let me just say that the Sprint Customer Service is so bad that calling it horrible would be an improvement. I called to cancel. It took 4 calls and over an hour combined on hold. They told me I still have to pay for the month. So I ported the number to Ting (where I was going to use it anyway) and then transferred the phone to my existing Ting number. I locked down all data and put on a few games that require brains (boggle, scrabble – etc.). My daughter loves her new phone!
Then I got an email from spring that I owe $55.50 for the month (45 + taxes). Sigh. Back to customer service.
I called to cancel my phone and they closed my number. I told them I want to use it at a later date. Now I want to go to sprint.com to check my balance pbut I don’t have a username or password how do I get that? thank you
anyone able to cancel and not pay $55+ and keep the phone. they keep telling me I have to go to the store if I want to cancel my service as of today they can only cancel it at the end of my billing period over the phone
@hdawg: I am having the same experience. Seems if you want to keep the phone you need to pay for 1 month of service. If you want to return the phone you can do it up to 14 days after you placed your order.
If you cancel will they still send you a bill?? What’s the point of cancelling then? Might as well use the phone for a month.
RB I agree. I was told the same thing, that you have to pay for one month of service to keep the phone. So yea may as well use the phone for that month.
My bill does say “this is your final bill” for $3.41 so maybe that is really all I will be charged?!?!
@VL: did you call and cancel? I just ported my phone to ting and will use there service for data for my kindle. pretty good deal.
I called and canceled before I got my phone. I am hoping/assuming that the $3 charge is for the time when the phone was in transit, if they charge you once you sign up, which is fine.
hdawg-what is ting? So you have data for free even if there isn’t wifi? I am new to this!
Did any@VL:
Did you get a bill in your regular mail yet?
I am trying to cancel my plan, and they will only cancel if i return the phone with a 35 dollar restocking fee. Any advice anyone?
@dave:
Tell them exactly what I did: http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/35514/comment-page-5#comment-334457
@Dan: Thanks so much, your advice worked!
@Dan: I tried that and they asked me to go to the store and return the phone there or pay for the first month’s service. So I ported my number to ting for free and will, not active my service with ting till I need it and pay the bill from sprint. Hopefully no more than $10 unless I get a nice agent who cancels my bill altogether but no luck so far and have spoken to 5 different people.
Just called the 855 number to cancel. Initially the rep said there will be no charges bec it’s less then 14 days. But when transferred to the cancellation department they said my line will cancel at the end of the month and I will be charged the 1st bill. The fact that it’s within 14 days doesn’t matter. I was hoping to at least only have to pay half the month. Any advice?
@RB
Just fight the charge on your CC. You should have purchase protection especially if you didn’t use the phone or the service and there is no contract.
@RH:
The credit card isn’t my problem. (used a prepaid with $10) They sent me a bill in the mail. I don’t want to ignore the bill, just to lower it.
Tell them you didnt realize that you were being billed before activating the phone and that is unfair. If that doesn’t help and you are scared to ignore the bill, fight the cc charge after you pay it.
B”H
little bummed that they won’t cancel– spoke to several people at sprint and 2 of them said to go to the store.
I went to the store and they said “?”
the phone is worth $45 for sure but would have been happier if they would have cancelled for $3 like some lucky people.

What Does This Really Mean ????? I Just Placed An Order For A Phone And It’s Saying This:
Your order or a portion of your order requires some validations in order to complete processing. This may not require contact with you. But if you do receive a message from us, please call us back urgently at 866-456-0575 between 8:00 a.m. EST to 11:00 p.m. EST Monday to Friday or 9:00 a.m. EST to 9:00 p.m. EST on Saturdays and Sundays. Please note delays in reaching back to us will delay shipping timelines.
@Menachem:
$45? I got a bill for $58.79.
sprint just told me nothing happens if i ignore the bill (besides being discontinued of course)
@E.B.: why wouldn’t they want their money?
@chaim yankel: I asked them to cancel and they said that the only way to do that is by not paying the bill being that it is a prepaid service.
@E.B.: maybe so but whhy wouldn’t they want their money and send u to collections after they cancel ur service and still don’t have their money?
@chaim yankel
They call it paranoia. Did i spell it right? Who cares!
And besides sprint is not sending a missing 45 bucks to collections.
We shall see. Don’t forget that after u miss the payment they add on late fees. So it can be way more then 45.
I hope you’re right because I was hoping not to have to pay anything.
@chaim yankel: I asked if I would be blacklisted or anything and they said no… But who knows.
really?
Can anyone follow up on how this went? To keep the phone, was 1 or 2 months of service required, and so forth… anyone?
you gave someone my number that they had called you from on May 6. I see your phone number right on my phone; you talked to them for 22 minutes.
Cannot access my email as they’ve hacked my freaking MacBook Air as well.
@Chriseaster is a made up twitter name and 2 different people are enjoying the use of my phone. At least it’s not the dozen or so with a previous number I had,
