But is it worth the environmental cost of having Amazon box that junk up and ship it to you???
I this tip is teetering on the point at which cheapness and sensibility go their separate ways. Order a whole item, have it shipped, to save .49 on an MP3- please!
@Akiva:
i essentially agree, but i would word it slightly differently – this may be the point at which frugality and basic lack of middos go their separate ways. taking advantage of a company’s offer in this manner seems to really question your outlook on bitachon.
ask yourself: am i really confident that the creator of the universe, in whose power it is to give me anything in any way, wants me to do this hishtadlus to obtain 50 cents?
With all the comments about cheapness and hishtatdlus, here’s another point to ponder. Doesn’t the artist who’s music you would be purchasing with this credit, make some money from the purchase? When taking about Jewish artists who create music for a crowd that is well versed in cheapness, and don’t go to concerts because of various bans etc. the least you can do is get some cheap amazom mp3 credit and support these artists.
@aaron:
Yes, the artist/record company would receive the full price, it is amazon doing the subsidizing.
wow. i do not, REALLY do not, want to get into any sort of argument about this, but that is THE MOST AMAZING RATIONALIZATION EVER!
to paraphrase: although we might consider on the one hand how it might not be the right thing to “steal” from amazon (although it might be ok because it’s not REALLY “stealing” just taking advantage of a loophole); maybe we should do it anyway, to support a fellow jew!
of course, this presupposes the whole hishtadlus idea, since using any such notion implies that maybe his income is supposed to come from you taking advantage of amazon, as in, can god really find a way to send this poor jewish artist parnassah? i’d better help out god by getting amazon to pay for half of my purchase to help this poor soul.
if only god were more powerful, and could run the world in such a way that NEITHER of you had to get involved in questionable schemes.
