Update 3: Don’t forget that you can also borrow miles from AMEX. And also don’t forget that you can status-match your Delta status to other airlines (like Continental) and be elite through 02/29/12 on other airlines as well!
Update 2: It’s worthwhile to note that as long as you have an AMEX Charge Card with Membership Rewards you can actually buy the 50,000 points (or smaller amounts if you have some points) directly from AMEX for $1,280 ($1,250 at 2.5 cents per point plus $30 excise tax) which will get you 75,000 Delta miles and Silver Medallion Elite Status good through 02/29/12.

You’ll definitely want to print up a copy of this offer and of the confirmation page if you use it! It doesn’t appear to be targeted and it let me register for it without any error.
You’ll get a 50% mileage bonus on any amount of AMEX points transferred to Delta by 12/15/10.
Plus if you transfer 50,000 AMEX points you’ll also get 25,000 MQMs which is enough to get elite status on Delta. With Elite status you will get free checked luggage, upgrades on paid and on award tickets, and much more.
Beware that Delta miles are worth much less than most other miles as they charge much more for most trips and they are part of the Skyteam Alliance, which has very poor award availability. They’re called “Skypesos” for a reason!

Two questions:
I just did a MR-CO transfer. Is it possible to undo?
and can someone transfer from their MR to My DL?
@Yosef:
No.
Yes.
is this targeted?
If you transfer 200,000 amex M.R. Points to delta will that get you platinum status?
@anon:
It’s unclear, but it does let you register. Typically i wouldn’t let you if it was targeted.
@ben:
No, you can only earn 25K MQMs with this promo.
how fast do u get the bonus miles?
@yoel:
It’s all in the fine print:
-Members will receive a 50% mileage bonus on all miles transferred from the date you register through December 15, 2010.
-Bonus miles will be posted 4 to 6 weeks following the end of the promotion.
-Members will also receive 25,000 Medallion Qualification Miles (MQMs) toward Medallion status when you register for the promotion and transfer 50,000 points or more from the date you register through December 15, 2010.
-MQMs will be awarded to qualifying members within 4 weeks of the end of the promotion. ]
-MQM bonus limited to one time per registered member during the promotional period.
when will silver status apply until if the miles are earned this year?
and until when if they are deposited after 12/31?
@anon:
It appears that the bonus miles will post instantly, so elite status would last through 02/29/12.
If someone transfers from there MR account to my delta will i still get the bonus or is it a bonus for the guy who transfers only?
@Dan/Ctownbochur: If I am gold medallion from a status match, and I due this transfer, would I get upgraded to platinum?
@Lga:
It’s based on the recipient of the miles, so you should be good.
@Steve:
I doubt it, it just adds 25K MQM’s. When you status match you don’t get 50K MQM’s so it likely will not help you.
That is the SH#$ !!! Thank you very much. I watch you ever day but this just made my year!!! You just saved me a mileage run – several in fact! Thanks DAN!!!!
Transferred 200,000.
300,000 posted instantly, as did the 25,000 EQM’s. I’m now Silver with them.
Remember to apply for the promo before you make the transfer.
Could i transfer starwood points? And how do i do it?
@Gavriel
Yes, and get 25% bonus on top of the 20K to 25K SPG
http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/10252
BUT no MQMs.
@Rob:
Great!
@Eli:
Thanks for the report!
@Gavriel:
Not for this promo. I’m sure you can find someone here that would trade you Starpoints for AMEX points though if you want.
Or you can always apply for an AMEX charge card to quickly get some points.
Hey dan, what if i transfer 40000 starwood points in. would the bonus from starwood give me the 50000 total and then all the mqm and 50% bonuses ? also do transfer in the standard way from the starwood site after i register or a special way with this promo.? thanks
@Jeff:
No, transfers from Starwood will not qualify for this promo!
if i make the transfer now, what are the chances of using the silver benefits for a flight this monday?
how long is this offer available for
@me:
99%
@me:
It’s written in the post.
Dan- THANK YOU!!! Your site is my home page and is just the very best! I have benefited from your site quite a bit so a way way over due – big THANK YOU (and Shabbat Shalom)!
It might be worthwhile to note that it may be worth it to wait until closer to the end of the promo to see if they extend it.
Why?
Because I believe if the MQMs post in ’11 then the status is actually over two years instead of just one.
Transferred 50k, which showed up immediately. I contacted them and they said that the bonus miles MQM would show up 4 weeks after the end of the promotion (i.e. by January 15, 2011).
Ugh. I didn’t print out a copy of the confirmation page and the bonus miles were not posted instantly like the transferred miles. Is there a chance that they will post at some later point in time? Thank you.
If anyone wants to buy amex MR points, instead of buying them from amex directly for 2.5 cents I am interested in selling mine for less please reply or go to dansdeals forum
If I do this now, will I receive free upgrade via Silver Elite Status for a flight next Thurs? I booked prior to this offer
Also, if i were to switch the 50k out at a later date into another Rewards Program, will I keep the Silver Status?
I tried to register with you link and it tells me invalid email address when it is not. Did anyone else have problems registering? is there another place to register for the 50% bonus?
@A good ha`areh:
I doubt it will be extended.
@Adamchik:
The MQMs post quickly, you may want to see if they did already in your Delta account.
@Nicole:
Yes, it is possible they may post later, but they have been posting immediately for most.
@jongad:
If your MQMs post immediately you will be elite for the flight.
@jongad:
Once miles are transferred from AMEX (or Starwood for that matter) they can’t just be transferred again, they’re pretty much stuck.
I currently have 26k MR points and would be interested in getting in on this deal of the 50k. Is there besides buying directly from AMEX to get an additional 24k MR points in to my account?
Thanks for your help.
HSS
RE; Needing additional points for this deal
Call AMEX…they have a program for “borrowing” points. You just need to accrue those points BEFORE 12 months are up otherwise they WILL CHARGE for them.
Bottom line…..if you need 24K more points and will charge 24K within the next 12 months you do NOT need to buy points.
i have a gold premier card i went to amex i dont see a place to buy more miles
@henry:
You need to go to the membership rewards site and make the redemption.
When you checkout you can either pay for them or “borrow” them and repay the points over the course of a year.
If it doesnt let you borrow enough you can also call them up to borrow more.
Opening another credit card can also be done to repay the borrowed points.
is this still workin. I clicked on the linky and it doesnt come up
@Anonymous:
Link works fine for me.
thank you it worked another question which airlines do the matching status i am gold on delta now thank you
@henry:
Did you wind up borrowing and buying points?
How long did it take to get the Delta MQMs to get to the next elite level?
Continental will match you to Gold if you want.
i borrowed some and bought some. It posted today same day. also i spoke to continental before when i was gold they said they dont match who am i supposed to speak to
@henry:
They definitely do match.
Call the OnePass service center at 713-952-1630
IF I GET SILVER ON DELTA CO WILL MATCH ME TO SILVER? IS SILVER ON CO ANY GOOD? I DONT THINK YOU CAN GET ANYTIME AWARDS WITH SILVER ON CO LIKE WITH GOLD ON CO, WITH GOLD EVEN THE LAST SEAT ON THE FLIGHT IS AVAILABLE AND SILVER I THINK NOT..
@JACOB:
Please get your keyboard checked out, it appears to be suffering from the DREADED CAPS LOCK VIRUS.
Yes CO will give you Silver. And you do get expanded saverpass availability on CO as well as last seat anytime availability and many other bennies.
The bonus miles posted today (the transferred miles posted on Saturday immediately). Thanks for drawing attention to this great deal!
If i registered but i transferred the points by calling american express should that make a difference or you have to transfer the points online
does the transfer have to be one lump sum of 50,000 or can i do 35 from one amex account and 15 from another and still get the bonus?
@abe: how much?
I have a friend who has 100,000 points. Can he transfer 50,000 points to me and I can quantify for this promo? (or anyone tried it?)
Can someone else transfer the amex miles directly into my delta skymiles account?
@Anonymous:
Yes.
Do you have the info on how to do a status match for other airlines. I am a platinum on Delta & which airlines would match?
anyone have link for the transfer page?
miles, bonus miles, and mqm posted.. however, it doesn’t say anywhere silver elite.. Current Membership Level: SkyMiles Member
I signed up for the promotion on 11/8/10. I transferred 50,000 Amex points to Delta on 11/16. The 50K Amex to Delta points went instantly, but I have still not yet received the 50% bonus or the MQMs. I called Delta, but they could not tell me anything except wait 4-6 weeks after the promotion. Does anyone know why it is instant for some, but not for others? Any idea on when the MQMs and the bonus will be added?
If I get elite status–it’s only good for free upgrade for me and not my wife–is that so? If that’s the case it doesn’t make sense for me. My wife wouldn’t accept the upgrade to my seat–she has to have me by her side when flying.
If I sign up for the Amex platinum do I get silver elite with Delta? If yes can I then transfer 50000 MR points and become gold with Delta?
Dan I signed up for the promo and transferred the points 1 month ago and still didnt recieve the bonus points or the elite status. What should I do?
I picked up the Platinum Amex from Dan’s link. I’ll put $1000 on there in US mint coins, get my bonus. In the meantime, I got an advance of 50,000 miles (per Dan’s advice) and transferred those to Delta. Saw everything on the account this morning, including my upgraded status. 50,000 miles transferred, 25K bonus, 25 MQMs.

I transferred the 50000 amex points to delta and the next day received the bonus 25k MQM but i never received the bonus 25k redeemable miles.This happened to anyone?
they told me at amex that there is a charge for transferring into delta is this true?
I signed up for the Amex platinum through you with the 50K bonus, and I just did 2 transfers to my delta account. One for 29K and for 21K = 50K, does this qualify for the 50% bonus??
I did not receive the bonus instantaneously.
Please help
@trvlwiz:
If you don’t do all 50K in one shot then it can take up to months for the bonus to come.
I DID 52000 AND THE BONUS DIDNT COME UP I NEED THE POINTS FOR A TICKET NEXT WEEK CAN ANYONE HELP
thanks dan.
I did a total of 4 transfers 1 29K + 21K = 50K and then I did 2 different 50K transfers, all the bonus points posted just now.
I took about 18 hours.
Thanks!!!
I was online and chatted with them and they gave me the bonus points! Thanks dan!
I registered for the promotion and transferred the miles but haven’t received my bonus or elite status. Any suggestions????? HELP!
