The Chase Sapphire Reserve® took the mileage world by storm last year by offering 100,000 signup points and a boatload of other benefits. Chase took a $200-$300MM loss just in the 2016 Q4 on the card, so it’s no surprise that the massive signup bonus is coming to an end.
Here’s How To View Credit Card Offers On This Site
Effective 1/12 the 100K online offer will go down to 50K for spending $4,000. The 100K bonus will still be available in branch through 3/11.
You can use the 100K points for $1,500 in travel or you can transfer them into airline miles or hotel points.
Note that if you have opened up 5 or more consumer credit cards in the past 2 years it can be difficult to get approved for most cards from Chase. Read more about 5/24 here.
Annual fee:
The card has a $450 annual fee which is not waived for the first year. The effective annual fee though is much lower thanks to the travel credit.
View more about the card after the jump:
Travel credit:
The Sapphire Reserve offers a $300 automatic travel credit to offset the annual fee.
The credit is good for any kind of travel related spending including airfare, car rentals, hotels, Disney tickets, Cruises, subways, taxis, and much more. Read a list of confirmed transactions that will trigger a credit here.
As the credit is per calendar year that means you’ll get $600 of travel refunds in your first cardmembership year with a $300 credit in 2017 and a $300 credit in 2018.
You must finish 2017 travel spending before your December 2017 statement closes and you you can start 2018 travel spending in December 2017 after your December statement closes.
The $300 in travel spend and $100 Global Entry fees that are refunded count towards the $4K threshold. You’ll even get the keep the bonus points for travel spending that is refunded. The annual fee does not count towards the spend threshold.
Combined with the signup bonus that means you can get $2,100 in travel in your first cardmembership year.
After the first year, the annual travel credit effectively lowers the annual fee of the card to $150 per year. That’s only $55 per year more than Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card and it comes with a lot of valuable benefits that make the card a keeper:
Sapphire Reserve offers 3 points per dollar on all of the travel items listed in this post. It also offers triple points on dining including restaurants, fast food, coffee shops, bars, lounges, and cafes.
There are no foreign transaction fees.
You’ll be able to access over 900 clubs worldwide with Priority Pass and you can bring unlimited guests with you into the lounge for free! That includes lounges with kosher food and wine in Newark and Tel Aviv. You can call Chase to enroll in Priority Pass or you can enroll online here. You can even pay to access Priority Pass lounges before you get your membership card and you can call Chase to refund those lounge entries!
The Newark Art & Lounge in Terminal B is located before security and doesn’t require a boarding pass, so you can stop in for free kosher food and wine at any time!
Every 4 years you can get a $100 credit for a 5 year Global Entry membership which also includes TSA pre-check. That means you can skip the lines and forms when flying back from abroad and you can leave your shoes on, laptops in their bags, and go through metal detectors when flying from the US. It makes flying so much easier!
Additional cardholders cost $75/year and include a Priority Pass membership with free guesting privileges as well.
Increased cash back or miles:
The Sapphire Reserve allows you to use all your Chase points for 1.5 cents each per dollar towards travel.
The ability to choose between 1.5 cents per dollar or mileage transfers make Sapphire Reserve an incredibly versatile credit card. Thanks to their ability to be used at a high value as miles or when redeemed directly from Chase for travel, I called them “Hybrid points.”
You can choose to hunt for award tickets bargains and then transfer them into real airline miles instantly. The value of airline miles can be extremely high for one-way tickets, last-minute tickets, and first class tickets.
Or you can just use them for paid airfare, hotels, car rentals, or activities at a value of 1.5 cents each.
You can earn even more by spending on other Chase cards and transferring those points to Sapphire Reserve:
-If you have a Freedom Unlimited card you earn 1.5 points per dollar everywhere that are worth 2.25% towards travel when you transfer them to Sapphire Reserve.
-If you have a Freedom card you earn 5 points per dollar on rotating categories that are worth 7.5% towards travel when you transfer them to Sapphire Reserve.
-If you have Ink Plus or Ink Cash card you earn 5 points per dollar on office supplies, gift cards from office supply stores to hundreds of other stores, and telecom that are worth 7.5% towards travel when you transfer them to Sapphire Reserve. Gas, hotel, and dining purchases also have double point bonuses worth 3% towards travel.
-If you have Ink Business Preferred card you earn 3 points per dollar on travel, shipping, internet, cable, and telecom, and advertising on social media and search engines.that are worth 4.5% towards travel when you transfer them to Sapphire Reserve.
That means you can be earning between 2.25%-7.5% back everywhere.
If you already have a Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card you can downgrade it to Freedom or Freedom Unlimited to take advantage of their spending benefits and you can always transfer those points to Sapphire Reserve to make them 50% more valuable.
As a Visa Infinite card, it also comes with some benefits like discounts on car rentals, including 30% off at Silvercar.
Sapphire Reserve comes with primary rental car CDW insurance in every country in the world. Most other cards only have secondary coverage when you rent a car in your home country. This means that if you damage your rental vehicle you must file the claim with your own personal insurance policy first, and only if they won’t cover the damage will the credit card cover the damage. Even additional cardholders get primary coverage when they rent.
Most credit cards also exclude countries like Israel from coverage, however all Chase cards cover you worldwide, including in Israel. And they will give you a letter of coverage stating that you are covered in Israel so that you don’t have to argue at the rental car counter that your Chase Visa does give CDW coverage.
Plus you get triple points on car rentals, meaning there is no better card out there for car rentals!
-Roadside Assistance: Coverage for up to 4 incidents per year. The battery in my 2011 Altima died on me twice in the past month and Chase sent out assistance with ease. And yes, I did finally buy a new car battery.
-Trip cancellation insurance is free.
Trip cancellation reimburses up to $10,000 per person, up to $20,000 per trip, and up to $40,000 per year if you need to cancel for injury, death, or sickness experienced by you, a traveling companion, or an immediate family member of you or your traveling companion. Other covered reasons include severe weather, military orders, terrorism, jury duty, home dwelling becoming inhabitable, quarantine, or financial insolvency of the travel agency or operator of your trip.
Other card benefits include:
-Price protection. Find a lower price in a store or online on a non-auction site within 90 days and get back up to $500/item and $2,500/year.
-Return protection. Return an item to a store that won’t take back an item for up to 90 days ($500/item, $1,000/year)
-Purchase protection: 120 days of protection in case of damage or theft on items you buy ($10,000/item, $50K/year)
-Warranty protection: An extra year of warranty coverage on purchases ($10K/item, $50K/account)
-Lost Luggage Protection: If your checked or carry-on bags are lost you can be reimbursed by up to $3,000 per person.
-Trip Delay Protection: If you are delayed that either requires an overnight stay or is more than 6 hours you can be reimbursed for up to $500 in expenses per person.
-Baggage Delay Protection: If your bags are delayed by more than 6 hours you can be reimbursed for up to $100 in expenses per person per day, for up to $500 per person.
-Travel Accident Insurance: Coverage if you are injured or killed on a trip.
-Visa Infinite Concierge is included free of charge.
The Chase Sapphire Reserve® card earns Ultimate Rewards points and has the ability to transfer points into miles. It also gives you the ability to transfer points from fantastic no annual fee cards like Chase Freedom, Freedom Unlimited, and Ink Cash into miles as well, as those cards can’t transfer points directly into miles without having the Sapphire Reserve, Chase Sapphire Preferred® Card, or Ink Plus card.
You can also transfer points at an equal ratio to your own or to one authorized user’s airline and hotel programs:
-United (Star Alliance)
-Singapore (Star Alliance)
-British Airways (OneWorld)
-Korean (Skyteam)
-Air France/KLM Flying Blue (Skyteam)
-Southwest
-Virgin Atlantic
-Hyatt
-Marriott
-Ritz Carlton
-IHG
Point Currency:
Chase Ultimate Rewards offer instant and fee-free transfers to top-notch mileage and points programs at a 1:1 ratio.
You can transfer points to a household member’s Chase card or to an authorized user’s airline/hotel programs.
You can also transfer points to Chase business Ink cards like Ink Plus and Ink Cash where you can transfer from there to other business owner’s cards and/or programs.
Transfer partners include:
–United (Star Alliance) is an excellent currency. They never charge fuel surcharges, they allow one-way awards for half the mileage, they have short-haul awards for 10,000 miles, they often run discounted award promotions, they allow for an “excursionist perk“, and they have dozens of partners to fly on, most of which can be booked on their website.
–British Airways (OneWorld) is awesome for short-haul awards, though partner American has been stingy with award space of late. Awards start from just 4.5K miles. Flights to Israel on Air Berlin are just 60,000 miles round-trip with no fuel surcharges. They allow one-way awards for half the mileage. There are no close-in or expedite fees. You can cancel an award for as little as $5.60. Infants are only charged 10% of the miles on international trips instead of 10% of the full fare like US carriers charge. Plus they don’t collect fuel surcharges on American within the western hemisphere, on Qantas from or within Australia, on Air Berlin, Aer Lingus, Alaska, or LAN and you can transfer points to Iberia to limit fuel surcharges there as well.
You can read more in this post on everything you need to know about BA Avios. And you can see 110 places you can go to nonstop from NYC with Avios.
–Korean (Skyteam) offers unbeatable first class availability (A380 First Class Trip Report here) and they also have true bargains on partner travel, just 30,000 miles to fly round-trip on Hawaiian or Alaska to Hawaii in coach or 60,000 miles in first. And it’s just 20,000 miles to fly to Alaska in coach or 40,000 miles in first. You can even get a free stopover on the way to or in Alaska! If there is Delta saver availability you can even fly to Hawaii, Mexico, Puerto Rico, or the US Virgin Islands round-trip for just 25,000 miles in coach or 45,000 miles in business.
–Air France/KLM Flying Blue (Skyteam) offers promo awards from rotating North American cities to Europe, Israel, and Russia from just 12,500 miles each way. Regular awards to Israel are just 25K miles each way, though some fuel surcharges apply on most airlines except for Delta.
–Singapore (Star Alliance) offers private walled-in first class suites that can only be booked with their miles. A suite one-way from JFK to Europe is 57,375 miles. Travel to the US48, Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and Israel can all be had on the cheap. There are no close-in booking fees and changes and cancellations are very cheap. Fuel surcharges apply when flying on most airlines besides United. More info here.
–Southwest offers a value of about 1.7 cents per point towards award travel, though that rate can now vary. Plus you get 2 free checked bags, free flight changes or flight cancellations. and you can even get a point refund if the price of your flight goes down.
–Virgin Atlantic has some niche uses with awards on Delta.
–Hyatt is a very powerful hotel currency. They have a cash and points option that offers some excellent values and more importantly those stays earn points, elite stay credits, promo credits, and you can use suite upgrades on cash and point stays as well. It remains far less expensive for high-end hotel stays than any other hotel program.
-You can also transfer points to Marriott, Ritz Carlton, and IHG.
-Generally speaking you’ll want to use the 1.5 cents per point option when redeeming for round-trip coach tickets booked in advance. You’ll generally want to transfer to miles for business class, first class, last minute and one-way coach awards. You’ll be better off with 1.5 cents per points for IHG and Marriott hotels, but Hyatt points can often be worth more than 1.5 cents each, so you’ll want to transfer points to Hyatt in those cases.

I tried, applied in branch, but was denied because of too many open credit cards in past 24 months.
When is this due to expire? I’m still under my 5/24 restriction for this for a couple weeks.
@puzzlefighter:
Did you check your report to see when you opened those cards?
Did you check if they might be counting secondary cards as primary cards?
@Josh:
Read the post.
But you can apply now and then call reconsideration within 30 days of the application after you are no longer affected by 5/24.
@dan i was rejected by chase because opened 2 cards in the last 2 years is there a way to appeal
Signed up a few months back
Got the $300 tc but in late December they gave another credit for travel
Now that we’re in January do I get another? Or they just gave the next years credit early
What do you mean by the card will be refreshed?
Besides the drop down to 50K for the SUB, what else would be changing?
Got $150 free credit on my account when i was overcharged at a travel site and got refunded, but travel credit was not removed:)
If I have the amex business platinum card do I need this one?
@joe:
Yes, you can call them to reconsider the application.
@Anonymous:
They give the next year’s credit after your December statement:
http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/101084
@Anonymous:
The signup bonus is the only thing that appears to be changing.
@Amex:
They provide very different benefits.
This card gives triple points on travel and dining. It also gives a Priority Pass membership with unlimited free guests.
Plus Chase has many different transfer partners than AMEX and it’s well worth having points with each company in order to access all of those partners when you need them.
The $300 of annual travel credit is much easier to obtain on this card and makes the annual fee a relative bargain.
If i apply and get approved today can I still use the $300 travel credit in 2017 & 2018 before being charged the 2nd annual fee?
Dan, can you post the link where we can check how many cc’s we opened in the last 24 months?
If my buddy has private client status, can he call his banker and ask them to approve my request?
I have good credit but the 5/24 is not letting me get approved.
Could my buddy ask that I become private client ?
I have a cc with chase but no bank account.
Plus I don’t have the cash that would merit a fancy pants private client account…
Just to be technical, there is YQ on EI when using BA, its just low.
If you consider low YQ to be no YQ, then throw CX in there as well.
Also might be worth highlighting Korean can be booked online now
I got denied for my Preferred card because they were counting cards that I was an authorized user on, over 5. Finally got approved after fighting. Are you saying that being an authorized user should not affect my application? I don’t want to get denied again but do you think that they’ll end up giving it to me if I don’t have 5 cards as primary holder?
If I opened up a credit card in January 2015, will it fall off of my 5/24 limit in January 2017 or do I have to wait for February 2017?
@Steve:
Yes.
@eve:
You can check your report for free at
http://www.annualcreditreport.com
Make sure to check which cards are primary and which are additional user accounts.
@Jin:
It’s not clear if CPC helps for 5/24 anymore. Either way, you would need to have it to get any help from it.
@fan:
As long as you are not responsible for paying the AU card then it shouldn’t count for 5/24.
You can also have the bank and the credit bureaus close and remove the AU cards if Recon won’t exclude it from 5/24.
@RS:
You can call and see what the rep says, but either way you can still reconsider an app made today within 30 days, so you can do that on February 1 if you can’t get approved now.
Also, if my wife has over 5 cards in her name and she has the ability to have CPC status-how long would it take to get that status and would that help?
Hi Dan,
I’m confused about “As the credit is per calendar year that means you’ll get $600 of travel refunds in your first cardmembership year with a $300 credit in 2017 and a $300 credit in 2018.” I received my card on Black Friday and my closing statement date is the 19th. I booked airbnb on Dec 22nd. Does that mean I didn’t take advantage of the $300 credit for 2016? Should I cancel and reapply?
@fan:
It’s unclear if CPC will still help with 5/24.
It can’t hurt though. A bank can upgrade you right away.
@Namaste:
You should have used it sooner. I wrote about that many times. That likely counted as 2017 spend.
You can check how much 2017 travel spending you have used here.
does the 5/24 works in 2 calendar year or 24 months ?
@breslev:
Rolling 24 months.
2 Questions (1 slightly unrelated):
1. Do you happen to know if the 5/24 rule goes according to days or months (i.e. will an account opened on 1/2/2015 count against me either way this month)?
2. Related to: http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/101316.
Do you recommend making the Amex fee spending now for 2017? I’d like to spend on the United gift registry. Any reason to think this will not be refunded (i.e. have there been any rule changes)?
@G:
1. I’ve seen reports both ways after people called reconsideration.
Even if they do reject you though you can call back on 2/1 to reconsider an application made today.
2. You can do it now.
If you have the Business AMEX then personally I’d wait as it’s easier to change the airline for the 50% points rebate before you have used the travel credit.
I recently got the sapphire preffered (3 mo ago) was told that it was too soon to apply for reserve. Is this true?
@True/False:
False.
I just helped someone get approved for a Sapphire Preferred+Sapphire Reserve+Ink Business Preferred via 3BM.
The only restriction is 5/24.
You said the Newark lounge in before security so one can enter at any time. Don’t they ask for your boarding pass when entering the lounge? If so, how can you enter at any time?
i think you should be clearer about the $300 travel credit. you are basically prepaying it with the $450 annual fee. if you use the benefits and exceed $450, whether two annual travel credits of $300 or by using the points earned etc… then, the annual fee is worthwhile. i think a lot of people who read this blog especially beginners, dont quite understand that… you are paying the $450 annual fee and then, only after, will you get $300 travel credits. so in essence, you are prepaying the three hundred
How would the $600 travel credit work if I apply and get approved today… I use the $300 travel credit in 2017 & in 2018 I assume I’ll be charged the 2nd annual fee on the 3rd, so would have to spend the $300 travel credit on the 1st or 2nd?
Thanks Dan!
@Mo:
I’ve never been asked for a boarding pass at that lounge.
@yankel:
I don’t see how that isn’t perfectly clear from the post.
“The card has a $450 annual fee which is not waived for the first year. The effective annual fee though is much lower thanks to the travel credit.”
Etc.
@Dans the man:
The 2018 credit starts after your December statement closes.
If your statement closes on the 15th of the month then any charges after 12/15 will be 2018 charges.
Thanks Dan,just for your info: I applied for the card on Monday December 26th (thru your link of course), they overnight it, got it Wednesday (Monday was Holiday so they shipped it Tuesday), Used it Wednesday night to fill up my EZ Pass, I was credited the $300 on Friday December 30th. (Don`t forget it`s travel so you`re getting 3 points per dollar).
Dan, the part about me still being anle to get it in a branch untill march is that certain?
@May:
Due to how Chase counts the year, that was likely 2017 spend though.
@Shea:
I have not confirmed it. Hence the “may.”
Dan mentioned annualcreditreport.com
I’m recommending check creditkarma.
Very simple to check via that method.
@Anonymous:
CK gives a FAKO score which confuses people though. Can also check via the new Chase TU credit score feature, but that’s also FAKO and doesn’t go into detail about primary and AU accounts.
Annualcreditreport also gives all 3 reports.
@True/False: I know 2 people approved for both the reserve and preferred within the same month WITHOUT 3BM. one of them was well over 5/24, but was pre-approved for both.
@Dan:
Dan- I’m not sure this is the correct strategy, here’s why. According to AMEX, you can change your airline in January of every year. So, wouldn’t it make sense to use the credit in January on whatever airline you already have from the previous year- which should hopefully be one that is good for maximizing the credit- and then, still in January, switch the airline to whichever one is helpful for using the 50% points back benefit. They shouldn’t prevent you from doing this- even though you’ve a;ready used the credit- because it is still January and you are allowed to change the airline in January! In this way, you can use one airline for the credit and another airline for the 50% bonus, and are not stuck with the same for both.
@Dan
How can I know for sure?
If I am 4/24 and apply for the reserve,ink and freedom using 3bm will I get approved for 3 or only 1?
@CtownBin:
As long as you you didn’t use your credit you can change at any time.
@May:
Call your branch and let us know.
Are you over 5/24 until March?
@rafi:
If you are at 4/24 you can still 3BM.
It takes a little while until the new accounts hit your report to affect 5/24.
HI DAN does it hurt credit when i close credit cards?
I got the card for myself in October and mistakenly added my wife as a second card instead of signing her up on her own and taking full advantage of the promo. Can I cancel her card and apply for a new one for her? Or anything to do to take advantage and try to get the 100k points before the promo ends? Thanks!!
@VIC:
http://www.dansdeals.com/archives/53213
@Brian L:
She can still sign up for her own card and get the 100K points despite being an additional user on your card.
Is this Priority Pass different than the Amex Platinum Priority Pass? Doesnt that one charge $27 per guest?
@Deal Guy:
AMEX Plat version charges $27/guest.
Chase version has unlimited free guests.
@Dan:
Right, this much I know. But- the question is- if I DID use my credit, but it’s still January, can I change it? If so, this would allow someone to use one airline for the credit and another airline for the 50% points back benefit, which is huge.
@Dan
I think I find the rare case of moving chase to marriott is better than booking through chase even with the 1.5 reserve bump..
The atlantis cove is 45,000 marriott points per night but the points have no value when calculating the Bahamas’ sale tax. When you use your chase points the tax is calculated on the dollar value of the trip.
Unless you have any other ideas, transferring to Marriott is the better move. Of course, it still isn’t a great value for chase points, but if you don’t want to spend the $800 a night including tax, its the better option.
Dan, If I currently have the chase sapphire preferred card, can I apply for this?
And if yea, I already paid this year’s annual membership fee, will I get a credit once upgrading?
@Dan
Since I already spent $300 travel credit for 2017 and can I spend $300 after my December 2017 closing date, cancel the card within 60 days of the annual fee which is November 2017 would that work?
after I use the $300 travel credit in 2017 & 2018 and only paying once the AF if want to downgrade to something cheaper what are my options?
@Dan: You used 3BM to get all 3 cards for someone. Can I ask if they were all approved without talking to a rep? (Or even if any were approved instantly?) Thanks.
@Ctown:
I don’t think so, but try and let us know.
@bahamas:
Better off using 15K SPG than 45K Chase.
@fan_of_Dan:
Yes.
If you downgrade Sapphire Preferred to Freeom you’ll get a pro-rated refund.
@Namaste:
Chase only gives 30 days.
@ny:
The benefits aren’t worth $150/year to you?
You can downgrade to Sapphire Preferred, Freedom, or Freedom Unlimited.
@Nun:
2 instant, 1 via Recon.
@Dan: will calling in for reconsideration really work? even if they do accept it, will you be applicable for the 100k bonus? I am 5/24 until Jan. 16th, so I can’t apply until the 17th.
@joey101:
As long as you apply for the 100K offer before it expires you have 30 days to reconsider and still get the 100K.
@Dan: if my fifth card was from jan 16, 2015, do i wait till January 17th to apply or do i wait till the following month: February 1st?
@joey 101:
This offer won’t be available online then.
You can apply before it expires and call reconsideration on January 17th and/or February 1st though.
Is the March 12th in branch application a safe bet?
@Jimmy:
Call your local branch and ask.
If I make a 3 BM is there a pattern which card should be submitted first in order to get approved for my priority card? in case they dont approve all 3.
@David:
Whichever you want the most?
What is the link to get this card with the 100K points? In the Chase site it shows 50K.
“You can view credit card offers by clicking on the “Credit Card Offers†tab on top of the DansDeals banner to view links for card offers. You can click on the link that says “View all card offers by issuing bank†and scroll down to view all card offers from the bank of your choice.”
Called recon and was told that if card was opened in January 2015, it will count as part of 5/24 until February 2017. If I apply now and call recon on February 1st and get approved, will I get the 100K sign up bonus or the reduced 50K?
@Dan:
Which ever i want the most out of the 3 should be entered first an so on?
But not every year i spend $300 for travel
@Dan:
Helped someone??
How much $ can i offer you to help me the same?
hey dan, if i have never applied for a credit card yet but i am an additionial user on one ,is it worth a shot to try for the reserve?
@RS:
100K.
@Anonymous:
Yes.
@ny:
You don’t spend on Tolls? Uber? Subway? Car rentals? Hotels? Trains? Airfare? Parking garages? Parking meters? Food delivery via UberEats?
Then go buy gift cards.
@David:
Daven in my shul 🙂
@baruch:
If you don’t try you won’t know.
@Dan:
I totally would if i would leave there…any alternative?
I signed up, more than passed my spending threshold, and the points have posted to my account. However, I am not happy with many aspects of their customer service. If I cancel the card now, will I still be able to use my points after cancelling the card?
just signed up and approved thanks!
@Dan Is an airline gift card considered travel that would be reimbursed?
Dan,
Frequentmiler says the following:
“Don’t call until denied – Most people who apply for the Chase Sapphire Reserve card have reported getting a pending decision. For example, they may be told that a decision will be made in 7 to 10 days. While many people like to call the reconsideration line (1-888-270-2127) to speed up the process, I recommend waiting. When you apply for a card, you essentially have three chances for approval: 1) automated instant decision; 2) automated decision after application goes pending; and 3) reconsideration. Those who call for reconsideration before step 2 is complete force Chase to bypass that step. It is possible that a recon agent will deny an application that would have been approved by the the automated process in step 2. If you wait, you have an extra chance of approval. If that process results in a denial, you can still then call 1-888-270-2127 to try to overturn the decision. In fact, I recommend calling several times if the first time isn’t successful.”
Do you agree with this? Or do you suggest calling? I just got the 7-10 day decision notification for the reserve and wondering what you think.
When speaking with Chase rep in the beggining of Dec. I was advised to use all travel credit(/make a charge) within the day in order to apply towards the 2016 travel credit. On this advice I made an immediate charge. Two days later I called to re-confirm that the charge had/would apply for 2016 – a supervisor confirmed.
I later noticed that the charge was really applied towards 2017. I called again and was this time told, for the first, that it was based on the settling date and the first two calls would not be honored. While I can respect that this is written policy that I could have known, when speaking with a Chase rep I assumed it represented Chase policy. The charge was not one I would have made otherwise.
It seems odd that Chase, [while admitting the calls,] would not honor a statement made by their representative. Must I normally clarify all policy through the written contract before acting on rep advise?
Car rentals needs to be booked through chase? Or only matters if i pay with this card for rental?
@G: There are several comments on DoC that indicate that they count whole months. I’m out of luck since I don’t get to 4/24 until April.
Hopefully this will help some people. My wife has an old collection on her credit report which will be on for another few months. Because of this her credit is only a tad over 650. Recently applied for the Barclaycard, but was denied. Saw this post and thought to myself that it’s now or never and that there really isn’t THAT much to lose (besides a credit pull). Said some prayers and was approved!!!
Hopefully others can get the same as well, but it may just come down to those prayers…
I have had many things promised and/or applied by chase reps that were never applied or stuck to – even when charges were placed based on the aforementioned applications. This is the only company I have experienced that with, and I am considering cancelling my reserve card for that very reason!
@Jack:
Only if you downgrade it or have another Chase Ultimate Rewards card.
And you won’t be able to redeem them for 1.5 cents each with other cards.
@kj:
Congrats!

There are definitely pros and cons to calling or waiting.
Some Recon reps will be more apt to approve you if you haven’t already been denied.
I don’t think there’s clear evidence that one is better than the other.

All companies have this issue. That’s why DansDeals exists…
@ny:
As long as you pay with the card you’ll get triple points, travel reimbursement, and CDW coverage.

5/24 isn’t set in stone.

Awesome!

Same thing happens with every company out there.
Is there a way for a US citizen living in Israel to get a US credit card? I don’t have a US bank account (never had one).
What’s the best way to spend 4k these days?
@dan does the $450 fee plus $75 additional user count towards the $4000 spending in 3 months?
i know the $450 doesn’t count towards the $4000 minimum spend but does the $300 (or $600) on travel and the $100 global entry fee still count towards the $4000 if they are credited?
Hi Dan. I’m new to the idea of cc for miles, etc. I use a capitalone venture card so that I get miles and free foreign transaction fees. I live in Jerusalem and travel to the US twice a year and within the US on most trips. In your opinion does it make sense for me to get one of these cards?
If i apply today and get approoved how long till I get the card?
@Anonymous:
Apply and you’ll find out soon enough.
@GRANGE:
Paying taxes is an easy way.
@Malka:
No.
@Alex:
Yes.
@Lorry Laby:
Yes, see the post on hybrid miles.
@dave:
Within a day or 2.
@dan.
Called reconsideration. 5 cards in the last 5 months which I am the primary on.
Anything else I can say to them to get past 5/24?
When do you have to pay the $450 fee?
@dan, 5 cards in last 24 months. Typo above. I really want this card before the 100k disappears!
I tried talking to the cpc rep..no help.
Thanks got approved through your link. Do you think if i charge the Shabbos meals at the Jerusalem Plaza would it count towards the travel crdeit?
@argh:
When does the 5th card falls off the 5/24 count?
@P. Wachs:
On the 1st or 2nd statement.
@pretzle:
Sure!
@Dan
April 🙁
Just applied and got approved instantly! Thank you dan!
One question though, how does this cards CDW differ from Amex premium coverage? (Which i pay for)
Where did you get the info that all Chase credit cards cover CDW in Israel? We cannot get an answer to this question from either Chase or Visa and, since we have enough credit cards, we do not want to get a Chase credit card unless it will cover CDW in Israel and the other excluded countries.
@Dave:
AMEX doesn’t cover Israel, Chase does.
@Joan Kassenoff:
I called and got a letter stating that Israel is covered.
I am an authorized user on a reserve, would it get in the way of me getting approved? Also opening up 4 cc’s in the past 3 mo…
@True/False:
It’s fine.
Just tell Recon that you aren’t responsible for it.
First of all thanks so much for all the information you share! We use loads of it! Can you send a link to the application? I keep trying through the credit card tab and it won’t let me get in. I called chase they said there may be heavy traffic on the server…..Any suggestions? I would greatly appreciate your advice!
If I have a Chase Freedom, can I upgrade to this card AND get the bonus? I can go into a branch if needed.
@Desperate:
What exactly happens when you click on “credit card offers” at the top of this site?
@Andrew Rivlin:
You don’t get bonus points for upgrading.
I have like 5 reg chase cards and few business cards, didn’t do any new ones in few years should i try the sapphire reserve alone or do a 2 bm with another card?
Dan when is this offer good until? I applied but got declined because of 5/24 but 2 of the 5 will be 2 years old in mid march.
Please advise.
@new yorker:
No reason not to 2BM/3BM it.
@fan_of_Dan:
Read the post.
Ltoeles- i cant seem to find the the link to apply in the post. Is it not there? may want to make it more prominent…i found it in the banner…but perhaps put it in the post?
Dan, when are we going to know for sure if i could still apply via branch up untill march?
I just signed up for Sapphire Reserve under my name, making my wife an authorized user and my wife has a SW Rapid Rewards card under her name and I am an authorized user on that card. Am I able to transfer points that we earn using my Sapphire Reserve card to my wife’s Rapid Rewards card and count them towards a Companion Pass?
Hi
Is there a way i should be able to see my wifes cards in my chase login?
FYI – I signed up for the Sapphire Reserve. I was approved and everything went through (including the travel credit). One of the first things I tried to do was sign up for National’s Emerald Club Executive Status. It doesn’t work. That promotion expired at the end of 2016. Very disappointing. I called chase and after a long wait, they confirmed.
Is it okay to do 2BM one sapphire reserve personal and other one for ink business preferred, or better not mix business and personal?
@Dan:
One reason… there is a big chance to get 2 credit pulls even with 2or 3BM . That what happened to me. An was only approved for 1. An couldn’t dispute second pull. They said they see that its from a different deportment..
If i have good credit will they approove for this card with income of 50-60K? Or needs to be much higher?
I’m getting “network error” Please help! I really want to apply for this card before the major bonus is up!
Hi Dan, I’m way over 5/24 but I hope to get Chase private client in next few weeks. Should apply and than ask reconsideration once I’m cpc and get the 100k signup? Or is it a waste of time. Thanks
Would it help me get aproved for reserve if i go to my cpc banker rather than going online? Or should i just apply online?
@Dan, I applied for the Chase Reserve on 1/3.
1. Each time I call up they tell me that my application hasn’t yet been reviewed and they have no other info. What does this mean??
2. Ive opened up all my CC (under 5 cards) in the last 18 months. Will this affect my ability to get the Chase Reserve? I always pay my cards on time.
if im booking through chase ultimate rewards and dont book it all on points and pay $300 on the reserve card, would that be counted as travel credit?
@Nate:
You can transfer them, but Chase points don’t count towards companion pass.
Would would have to transfer Chase the Hyatt or Marriott and then from there so Southwest but you will lose points in the transfer process.
@new yorker:
You can mix, but it can cause a 2nd pull.
Not the end of the world.
@chase:
Yes.
@Nsastamps:
Seems like CPC no longer helps.
@Bm/Internet:
6 of one, half dozen of the other unless you are pre-approved.

Does this card work on travel categories in Israel other than the Jerusalem Light Rail (Egged busses, taxis in Israel, car rentals in Israel, hotels in israel, etc.)? Do you need the Chase Freedom card to be able to use the points properly? I have an Ink card and a regular (not preferred) Sapphire card but not a Freedom card. Thanks.
I just applied for the Reserved and got a Decision Pending.
If I applied now before the 100k goes down and get accepted only after it already went down, do I still get the 100k bonus? Or should I call now to try and push it through before it goes down?
Thanks!
So to confirm: If I apply now, I can get my $300 travel credit for 2017 & 2018 but still downgrade to a no annual fee card (I don’t travel much so the annual fee is not worthwhile for me) before having to pay the second $450 annual fee. Which effectively gives me a $600 credit while only spending $450 on annual fees? Thank you
@Dan I just applied after having 7/24 and as suspected, I got the “7-10 day pending”. I checked Credit Karma and 3 of those 7 cards are going to be dropping off in March 2017 (one 3/4/17, and the other two on 3/21/17). My question is, if I re-apply in branch, the 100k offer will mostly likely be off the table after 3/12/17, as mentioned in your article.. Do you think I could re-apply for the 100k before 3/12/2017, and then use the 30 day window to call the recon line, as these 3 other cards should drop off by 4/1/17. This way, I would be within the 30 day recon window and I should be at 4/24, therefore, I should get auto approved, correct? Thanks for everything you do!!
@dan,
Are you eligible for the signup bonus if you already have Preffered. ?
@Chanad:

>>That includes lounges with kosher food and wine in Newark and Tel Aviv
Is the Dan Lounge in TLV kosher? Can you assume the fruits are ok (trumah and maaser)?
I got rejected because I have 5 of my personal cards opened within last 24 months. I called and went up to resolution but they say they cannot get around that, I HUCA 5 times and everyone said they can’t get around 5/24. What can I possibly do?
@Mendy:
Should be able to get it.
@george:
Ask to see the Te’udah.
@Tony:
When does your 5th card fall off the 5/24?
@Dan:
“Did you check your report to see when you opened those cards?
Did you check if they might be counting secondary cards as primary cards?”
Yea, I did. There were 6 opened between February 2015 and March 2016 it looks like. I actually don’t have any secondary cards, so that couldn’t be it. Called the reconsideration line anyway and was told the same. So miffed that two of those six cards were things I never should have bothered to apply for.
I was just told by Chase recon that chase business cards do count against 5/24… Anyone have similar outcomes?
@Dan – i dont travel a lot.
Do i still “need” to get this card? The whole world is making a huge fuss over this and I feel like just getting it for the heck of it.
All my cards have NO annual fee and this would be my first.
I have the sapphire preffered already
@Dan – please answer 🙂

HUCA.
@chuck:
It’s an excellent card even for someone who only travels once a year.
And the 100K bonus is awesome.
5th card falls off 12/17 LOL 🙁
Shouldn’t the title be $1800 travel credit? It’s 2017 already.
@Zanvil:
You can get 2017 and 2018 credit now.
I’m clear of 5/24 but I currently have 4 Chase credit cards (United, CSP, Freedom, BA).
Do you think I will have a problem getting approved for CSR? Thanks!
Just for clarity if i apply now and call recon within 30 days from application after i break out of 5/24 jail i will get the 100k bonus ?
Is the deal still on? Also, I thought I saw someone’s post earlier but can’t find it now. I signed up in October and put my wife on my account. I want to sign her up now on her own and get the 100k points. Can I do that or not advisable if I already have 2 cards; one under her name?
Thanks!!
Never mind sorry i just found your previous post 😉
would I be able to get this offer in a few months if I match it after applying? also what did you mean when you said last chance to apply online thank you
I already have global entry, but could I use the benefit to pay for global entry for my wife, even if she’s not an authorized user on the card?
I recently received this card, and my closing date is the 28th of the month. Should I try to change it to the beginning of the month to have time to get 2018 credit? When will fee come due in 2018?
would it be possible to do a matching offer later on?meaningif I apply in 6 months and then match the offer would i get approved
@Dan I don’t see the link to apply in this post.
Please post it. Thank you.
hi dan if my application is pending and i get my answer after the deadline do i still get the 100k points?
I got approved yesterday, does it pay to apply for my wife?
@dan- Is the 100 credit for global entry part of the 300 dollar travel credit or in addition to? Is it 300 total or 400 total?
Asking bc I saw in your precheck post that you advised not to purchase precheck to get the credit from credit cards. Can you clarify?
Ty
dan could we apply vai branch untill march?
Hey Dan, thanks for years of deals… I just got approved for the CSR card and I will do my best to maximize all its perks and “wash” that $450 (most ever for me) annual fee. I actually called Chase to make sure I would get the offer, in the event my approval was delayed beyond the offer date. They said if I apply today (within the offer timeframe, the deal would be attached to my application)…
Goodnight all….

I applied called Recon and they said declined for too many cards i checked my report and there was 2 cards that i am autherized on not my cards would it help to call back recon to dispute or they wont help me?
If I have a choice of getting this card or the Amex with 150,000 points which one should I choose
( please don’t tell me both)
If I wish to downgrade at end of my first year, and I already have freedom card what are my options? Would I just close it? Or are there other no fee (non freedom) chase cards to downgrade to. Would I be eligible for sign up bonus on cards I’m downgrading too? I.e. if I downgrade to chase freedom unlimited and there is a special bonus running next January. Tia
Seems to be offline already…
@GH: tell them your not responsible for those cards
I applied two weeks ago but wasnt approved. I called for reconsider and they said if i lowered my balances they would approve because they would use credit from existing chase account. They didnttcwant to give me more credit. My question is if its not done within two days will i only be able to get 50k or can i still get the 100k. Thanks for ur help
@Desperate:
I used the Priority Pass last week and they didn’t question the amount of guests (I had 3; even though my wife had her own Pass, I didn’t bother with the additional paperwork). All they did was scan the card and have me sign. I have had a Diner’s Club card for 30 years that offers similar access but that is limited to me only, no guests.
@GS: Thank you!
Applied last night (right on 5/24) got 7-10pending notice, called recon this morning and as expected, it was denied due to too many opened credit cards. Called twice and the sec rep immediately says “I see that you already spoke to…” so they do keep track of your calls (FYI) so don’t waste your time making multiple calls. No means no :S I had four other family members to apply and only two who never opens credit card got approved. Thanks for the great info anyway Dan!
@Dan
I got denied for opening too many CC in the last 2 years – only opened 4 (but these are all the CC that I have). Anything I can do to make them reconsider when i HUCA?

Maybe they are mistakenly counting secondary cards that you aren’t responsible for?

If my fifth card was opened in feb 2015 can i apply now and call recon in 30 days or i would have to wait until march to break out of 5/24 jail. ……technically
Jan 2017 is the 24th month if u count jan2015
@Duvid:
You can apply now and recon in February.
On the topic of Airport lounges. If the lounge in Tel Aviv is opened until 8:00 am does that mean that there’s entry until that time or do I have to be out of the lounge by that time? I know it’s a bit unrelated but would greatly appreciate a response. Thank you so much for everything!
The question is if u think that’s considered past 24 months or not…..
Just spoke to them told them not responsible for 2 of the cards on my report they put me on hold for like 10 min then she told me it was sent in for review.. so hoping for the best! Thanks!
If i apply for the card today will the annual fee be billed on my first statement ? Or on the last statement of the year
If my wife is an AU on my sapphire reserve, can she still get her own sapphire reserve and qualify for the 100K bonus points, etc?
I never opened a CC but applied for CSR got message to wait 7-10 days should I call now to recon or wait first to get my denial in the mail. my score is above 720.
anybody anybody have an answer
So i just applied with 3bm for saphire reserve and preferred and ink…..will probably get denied I’ll have to try to call recon in 30 days….the question is i tried applying for csr last month and was denied bec of 5/24 and when i called recon they said it’s a “hard ” denial or something line that and there’s no possibility for reconsideration. …..what’s up with that ?
Is there any way to get more than 30k bonus for Chase United?
After some consideration I decided to go for it. My income is good but my credit report is not optimal. I travel a lot for business and have a corporate card but can use my own when it works out. I got instant approval for 12k, albeit at a higher interest rate than I’d like. I’ll pay taxes and trvel to get the bonus quickly. The lounge passes, global entry and silvercar discount will be awesome- although I just started using uber instead of rental cars on business trips- tough call I love those audis. Travel credit will be Sweet, and points will help visit my new grandson in Jerusalem!
Thanks Dan, if only for chase sapphire, uber and silvercar!
Hi Dan,
Applied for Reserve, Preferred and United, got denied, when I call reconsideration, should I discuss all three applications with the rep or call three times?
whats the best way i can use my 100k points without traveling should i sell it for $1500 (?) or first trensfer to airline? will i be able to get more this way??
Hi,
BH i got approved right away for the CSR, can I still use the 2bm?
Please explain something
Additional cardholders will get the same 100K +300+300 and all benefits
or juts Priority Pass membership with free guesting privileges
Thank you.
PS I saw it somewhere before but I can’t find an answer right now.

@shalom:

@Ant:
Just Priority Pass.
Dan, thanks for all you do!
I am trying to decide if I should get the CSR or go for the companion pass via the Chase Southwest Personal and Business cards. I am at 3/24 so I should be able to get both Southwest cards to get the companion pass. But I also have 270k Amex points I could transfer to Starwood-Marriott-Southwest and get the CP that way. It seems a little nuts to use my 270k Amex points to get the CP pass if I can get it via the two Chase Southwest cards.
My question is this… Would you get the CSR card and cash in the 270k Amex points to obtain the companion pass or go for the two Chase Southwest cards and keep the 270k Amex points?
Thanks again in advance!
@Dan
Hi, I currently have the Sapphire Preferred with a nice amount of points,
Is it worth changing cards to the reserve.. all i want out of the reserve is the 50% bonus when redeeming for travel as the preferred only gives you 25% (all the other perks don’t interest me)
also if yes how do i go about it??
@Stephen:
That’s an impossible question to answer. Depends on how you value the AMEX points, the Chase points, the Marriott nights, etc.
I will say that you should be able to 3BM for CSR and 2 SWA cards as the 5/24 goes into effect only once the cards are on your report…
@jacob:
It would be silly to upgrade the CSP to CSR as you will lose out on the 100,000 points.
You should apply for a new CSR and then downgrade your CSP to a Freedom or Freedom Unlimited.
I tried the forums but there’s copious info there and volumes to sift through… can’t find what I’m looking for. A link would be extremely appreciated. How can I upgrade from CS Preferred to Reserve, while accruing the signup points, and not losing out on my current months Preferred points ($13,000)? SIgn up for Reserve via your link, then call and ask them to switch my credit line from CSP to CSR? And how to salvage this months CSP points? TIA… The clock is ticking!!
@Dan
Not really a right answer to that question.
can you better explain
@CS:
You don’t get signup points for upgrading.
Make a new CSR application if you want the 100K bonus.
You can downgrade the CSP to freedom or freedom unlimited.
@Anonymous:
There are different schools of thought as to which way to go.
Feel awful that I cant find answers in the forums…copious info, volumes to sift through, and I’m a newbie… A link to the following would be awesome: How can I ‘upgrade’ from CSP to CSR, while maintaining my current months CSP account’s points (we spent $13,000) and my 150000 total points on that account? If apply for CSR through your link, and then downgrade the CSP, what happens to my 150000 CSP points?? Also, there’s the additional expense of adding a spouse as AU; do you recommend signing up for two independent cards? Or simply one plus AU? We barely travel… don’t feel it warrants two 450$ accounts. TIA for your patience, kindness and generosity…!!!
Thank you so much!!!
Afraid I posted twice. What happens to my current 150000 UR points from the CSP card if I downgrade it to Freedom? And do I lose this months $13000 points?
Thanks for your guidance. Approved. Now what about my CSP points? By downgrading my CSP account, what happens to all the UR points I’ve accrued?
How long do I have to wait between opening up chase cards. I applied in November and with CPC I was able to get passed 5/24 but was then denied because not enough time elapsed between cards being opened.
any clue how to get a secondary card without adding an AU, ty

I never opened a CC but applied for CSR got message to wait 7-10 days should I call now to recon or wait first to get my denial in the mail. my score is above 720.

I applied yesterday and it said that they are processing. Is there a way to expedite the process i.e. by calling?
Thanks Dan, just signed up for CSR. How do you get the complimentary Priority Pass Select membership?
Does it even pay to try if I have 9/24? No use having a hard pull if there’s no possibility.
@Neil: Once approved for the card, you can set it up through your online account portal for the card.
Thanks, and done!
Am I crazy? But i dont see the actual signup link? would like to do for me and my wife
@Anonymous:
You can transfer them all to CSR.
@Gubevo:
There’s no hard deadline.

Ask for a replacement card.

Yes.
@Neil:
Call and ask for it.

There have been successful reports, but it’s YMMV.

I signed up to the reserve and preferred a few mins apart from each other and they answered that my application is in review do I call to get approved and if yes which number?
Not that adept here, my username vacillating btwn Anonymous and CS… but I thank you immensely for your guidance!
How soon after approval can I request a “replacement” card for my spouse? (Instead of paying AU fee). And will he encounter difficulty using a card with an obviously woman’s name?
Am over 5/24, just went into branch to see if I am pre-approved but, alas, I am not. The banker did tell me that they will still be able to offer the 100k promotion after today but they do not know how long that will last for.
How long does it take for the card to arrive from the approved confirmation?

I never opened a CC but applied for CSR got message to wait 7-10 days should I call now to recon or wait first to get my denial in the mail. my score is above 720.

@YS:

I was denied,
HUCA’d 2 times and was approved for my first credit card(CSR).
@Jay: My wife heard about the card and applied for it over the phone and the cards came later the same week (maybe 3-4 days after her first call). I didn’t even know she applied until the cards arrived.
@CS/Anonymous:
I’d be careful about relying on this. Last time we received replacements they changed the card number invalidating the one it replaced.
@CS/Anonymous:
99% of stores don’t look at the card.
Banks are happy to send a new card if your card gets demagnetized.
Alternatively even if you add an AU card and cancel it within 30 days for a refund, the AU card will still work.
@Jay:
1-3 days.
@YS:
Congrats!
@Anonympus:
They won’t change the card number for a demagnetized card.
They will for a lost card.
TYSM!!!
Hey Dan when exactly is the latest to apply online and still be able to receive the bonus?
@CS:
Enjoy.
@Mendy:
It can be pulled at any time now. I wouldn’t wait.
Thanks so much. Last year I kept getting refused. I tried now and they said I have to wait. I got it a couple of days later.
I have the Amex premier rewards gold card and use that for all travel. Is it worth adding or switching to this one?
Now that I have the card, a question. I have an Amex card that for $25 a rental gives me all the coverage so that I can say no to everything.
Does the Sapphire card do the same thing without the $25 fee?
Link isnt working
@Mutty:
Congrats!
@Rivki:
It’s worth switching.

Yes.

I really want to sign my wife up for this card, but we’re not sure if she’s got 5/24 already. Is there any way of checking that without actually looking back at cards she’s had or been an AUSTRALIAN in the past 2 years?
@DanFan:
A credit pull is not a big deal. Stops affecting you after just a few months.
Don’t sweat it.
Otherwise, pull your report from annualcreditreport.com
@Dan: thanks. Will apply now. Any scenario where you’d leave both in place or should I cancel my Amex gold??
If I applied on time but my status is pending, and I get approved after 1/12/17, can I still get the 100K bonus?
Dan, i currently only have a Freedom and BoA cash back CC’s totaling about 15k credit line. also a year into a mortgage. BoA Fico of 785. Checked the 3 credit reports and all’s good BH. 1st AU reporting 09/2012 1st Primary 02/2014.
What other cards do you suggest i 2 or 3BM with the reserve?
got chase ink business card [80k points] 2 days ago, do i stand a chance with this one too?
@Dan: thanks. Will apply now. Any scenario where you’d leave both in place or should I cancel my Amex gold??

Got cards for both myself and my wife. After year 1 is it worth it to keep both or get rid of one and add an authorized user to the other?
I got approved in December but my wife applied yesterday and she got the 7-10 decision message, we called in were on the phone for almost an hour but they wouldn’t reconsider for no money cuz of the 5/24, taking 10,000 from a different spending card aint gonna help, what can we do?
So I found priority pass lounges in JFK and LAS, but surprisingly none in FLL
Great news on the car rental insurance
I didn’t see where you may have mentioned when you see the travel credits. I see ezpass won’t work on them taking out money whenever you reach a limit, only if you pay one time. I guess I could just do that but would like to see when and if it works.
Thanks

@Anonymous:

Does being an AU on your brothers SPG personal card count towards 5/2?
Does upgrading an Amex personal PRG to an Amex Platinum count twice towards 5/24?
Dan, thanks
But add the AU? Are there benefits that aren’t available to a spouse unless they are an AU?
@Danfan:
By default it will, but if you tell recon that you aren’t responsible for it then it won’t.
@Ari:
The lounge membership.
@Dan Could you please help me on #232
@Dan
So no instant approval?
We tried a few months ago and it was hard denied but they didn’t mention 5/24 are those 2 terms synonymous? Would they tell us that the reason is because of 5/24?
Would really love to get this card!
What about car rental insurance?
@Dan: And if you’re already a Chase customer they now have free credit report access when you log in to your account.
If my ez pass in wife’s name will credit work
@Disappointed:
Did you confirm on your credit report that you are over 5/24 excluding AU cards?
@Danfan:
Hard denial would be 5/24.
But you need to point out AUs so that they can exclude them.
@Ari:
Primacy is included free.
@Anonymous:
Fake score though and not all 3 reports.
@big fan:
Yes. Can charge for anyone.
Thank you Dan!
Approved using your link
@Dan
If I apply now, (knowing I’m over the 5/24) get declined, then close some cards I never use in the next day or so, can I appeal and if I win, will I get all bonuses?
Just tried applying and got this response from Chase:
We need to review your request a little longer. We will let you know of our decision by U.S. mail. This could take up to 30 days.
Please do not resubmit this request.
Is this a nice way of saying I’ve been denied?
@Dan: Yes it is 5/24 + 1 AU which they didn’t count
When do they charge the annual fee?
Can I spend the $4000 and use the $300 travel credit and then close the card and not pay the $450 annual fee?
is it worth getting a second card for $75
@Dan: yes it is 5/24 + 1 AU which they didn’t count
@moishe cohen
You do not get a 2nd sign up bonus by adding 2nd card to same Acct. It would be better for that person to apply for their own acct and get 2nd sign up bonus. If you really wanted to add 2nd user to same acct, you can do that anytime down the road. Today is the deadline for the massive sign up bonus, anything else can be done later.
@Mo
Annual fee is added immediately. There is no way you can use travel bonus but not be responsible for annual fee. They will overturn the $300 credit on your account and you have to pay that for sure, if somehow they agree to cancel the annual fee. So, no it would not be advisable
I already have the CSP, CSR and the freedom. If I downgrade my CSP to freedom unlimited what are my options to downgrade the CSR. Can I get another freedom or freedom unlimited? Or is there something else?
Dead
@cubicles:
Congrats!
@Slim:
If you get approved you’ll get the bonus.
@DE:
No.
@Alex:
You can.

Just applied and instant approval!
Still alive as off 8:10 PM EST
I applied for the Sapphire Reserve CC in-branch and was successful – today the last day of the promo.
We have a full portfolio of products with Chase, including a mortgage. I also have ten (10) preexisting Chase CCs and many more than 5 new cards in the last 24 months. Nevertheless I qualified with a ridiculous $30K+ line of credit.
Wonders never cease. Thanks, Dan, for giving me the hope to even try.
Hi Dan!
if i booked a ticket with this card for my brother who is not a AU on the acct. will he be covered with the trip cancellation insurance?
thanks
Dan, A link to the sign up on Chase for this card would be appreciative.
Thanks

How many updates of the same thing! Posting every hour that its ending today
Thanks for this! I applied and was approved. I have an Amex premier rewards gold card which I use for all my travel now. I took your advice and applied for this one anyway. My question is: should I cancel the Amex or is there any reason to have both? Am I better off just putting all my spending on the chase sapphire reserve? Thanks for all the advice!!!
I just applied and was approved after midnight ET. Site still said 100k point sign up bonus
Still alive
The site is up but it clearly states “Apply by Jan. 11” Can they approve but not give the 100k points?
is the 100k offer still alive?
This offer is no longer available, but you can choose from one of our top offers
CreditCards.com
* See the online application for details about terms and conditions for these offers. Every reasonable effort has been made to maintain accurate information. However all credit card information is presented without warranty. After you click on the offer you desire you will be directed to the credit card issuer’s web site where you can review the terms and conditions for your selected offer.
I signed up online yesterday was approved in three minutes but I have not yet received an email confirmation. Is this normal?
Thank you I recieved my chase sapphire reserve and even got my 300 dollar travel credit. Is there a point in holding on to my Chase Sapphire Prefered or should I cancel it? Are there any benefits to holding on to it?
@Boruch: If you cancel your credit score takes a hit (the credit agencies look at the ratio of your outstanding credit to available credit, so when you cancel a card you’re canceling available credit) . You can downgrade to a no-fee card without penalty.
@Dead:
You can still get it at chase.com
as off 1:05PM
I just applied at chase.cin at 1:34 EST and was approved, it still has the 100K offer listed, do you think I will still get it?
I just applied via chase.com through their 100K signup link got approved. Hope it works!
@Deena
Thanks for the tip. Just applied and got the 30 day message. Hope it goes through!
I would like to hear Dan! I believe he previously stated that ones credit does not get affected by closing a card
Use this link for 100K signup:
https://applynow.chase.com/FlexAppWeb/renderApp.do?CELL=6TKX&SPID=FL3P&PROMO=DF01
There are no special links online any longer that will allow for 100,000 bonus.
ITS OVER!
@Boruch: Like I said, the scoring companies look at the ratio of used/unused credit. If you don’t have any outstanding balances at all, the ratio will not be affected, but if you do, then closing out the account will impact your score. If you can downgrade to a free card, it’s the best option, especially if you have a high limit.
Got the card last minute! Thanks.
Have a Chase Ink Business Plus that has most of the points I have on it. Have also CFC and now the Reserve. How can I make sure I use the point with the Reserve benefit?
@Josh:
Dan is this true
Hey Dan I’m 18 and a half and applied with 2BM for the sapphire and the Venture card. The venture was approved right away and the Sapphire took 3 days then they sent me my card. Thanks for the great info and it is over rated how hard it is to get approved! much thanks!!!
Dan
I saw your post at 1130pm on 1/11 applied and just got card. they gave me a 50k credit limit – should i reduce that? i tried to get the jetblueplus the next day – didnt realize my jetblue card was not a plus and would not get the extra points if converted. That is under review now. I also have the chase marriott card and regular amex plat. Should i also convert amex to bizplat? thanks!
Hi Dan,
I applied for the Reserve but they wouldn’t approve because it has a min limit of 10k and my highest credit line is 4.5k, my question is, I’m authorized on my Husbands cards which have much more than 10k limit but I’m saying that I’m not liable to pay for it because of the 5/24 rule. But I do want them to consider it for the 10k limit, can I tell them that I’m using the card but am not liable to pay for it? will that work?
Applied online on Jan 8, got the rejection letter in mail yesterday. Called last night and spoke to a Recon Rep who told me I was at 9/24 but would not tell me anything else and suggested that I re-apply at a later date. I knew I was at 8/24 but with 2 store cards and 2 authorized users. I stated this to the Recon Rep but he refused to reconsider the denial. At that point I took Dan’s advice and asked for a Recon Supervisor. I explained my case for reconsideration stating that there were 4 cards that should not count, which would put me at 4/24. After taking some time to re-review my application, she approved me with shifting some credit from my Chase British Airways card. All in all took about 1 hour on the phone with Chase but was worth it. Do yourself a favor and follow Dan’s advice step by step! If I didn’t ask for a supervisor, I would not have been approved.
@JF:
Well done!
Dan, can you reply to comment 287?
Sorry comment 286
Dan,
I was able to apply in the branch today and get approved.
I am traveling at the beginning of next week, and I assume I will not have the priority pass in hand by then. I noticed in the post you mentioned I can just buy the passes and call chase after and be reimbursed. Is that for both directions? And I assume they will charge my companion as well, will that be reimbursed too?
Thanks Dan.
Hi, does anyone know how to get the letter from Chase re:coverage? I am flying to Israel on Saturday Night and need to get it before I travel.
Just got this in branch…. still being honored in branch.
I applied for this credit card before the deadline. I have not opened any credit cards for over a year, but still haven’t heard from them. Is that unusual?
FYI – to confirm what has already been posted, I spoke with a Chase branch and they said that this promotion has only been reduced online (from 100K to about 50k). Through mid-March you can still go into any Chase branch and get the full 100K
Applied on 1/11. Was approved today. Took 16 days. Never spoke with anyone.
Applied on 1/11 and just got proved today. Almost 3 weeks.
Was anyone ever able to apply in branch without being physically there ? (I’ll be in isreal until after March 11 when it expires )
Hey dan ‘ I want to downgrade to a slate from the sapphire reserve ‘ A. Do they pro rate the 450 fee?
B. Is point value the same from sapphire to slate?
If I cancel my card, does the lounge pass also get cancelled.
Update 3/11 or 3/10
Does the $4K spending have to be done within a certain time frame (like within 3 months) or is it for a calendar year?
@Z:
3 months.
@dan am i able to apply for this online? Your links dont have the link for this cards application. Other chase card applications are available.
Dan
If I used 150K Jetblue miles to book travel to NY to SFO before following your recommendation to get Chase Reserve and Amex Business Gold (waived fee). I already have Amex Platinum – so didnt want to pay again for Business Platinum. Should I rebook travel using one of other cards and pay change fee?
Any1 have an email address of a Chase bank that can look up whether I have a preapprovied in-branch offer for the Reserve card?
THANKS DAN for the reminder. I just went into the bank today and got approved.
Hey Dan,is the 100K offer still available? I only see 50K
@cW:
Congrats!
@david:
Read the post, it’s in branch only now and ends tomorrow.
@Ruth: @Dan can you reply to 305 please
@Anonymous:
Too many unknown variables to answer that question.
Dan – drove 240 miles RT & applied in branch this week. No Chase banks nearby & so don’t have private client status. Am close to/at 5/24 (one as authorized user). Have exceptional credit & score over 800. Did not get on the spot decision in branch though – was told it would take a week & be mailed to me. Should I assume that’s a rejection? Thanks.
Hey Dan, had my better half go to a Chase branch today (Friday, Shabbat Shalom to all) and I see she was approved for the 100k application expiring tomorrow. Can she take advantage of any card offers while she is awaiting the actual card… I.E. Coordinate Global Entry application and appointment ? Thanks for the reminder .. Appreciate the heads up on the expiring 100k UR points offer
Hey Dan, I was approved for this CC. Thank you for your help. Question, wanted to know how I should go about when spending for the 4K. should I spread out the charges until I hit the 4K or can I make it in one charge to hit the 4K? I just don’t want to raise any eyebrows if i do it in one charge. Thanks.
@Dan
Any idea or assumption if this promotion will ever come back?
